America today is divided into favored and disfavored groups by an unjust ideology that dominates our ruling class-identity politics. In this Highlight from Hillsdale College’s FREE Online Course, “Civil Rights in American History,” Dr. Azerrad explains how identity politics destroys equality under the law by creating favored groups that receive special treatment. The result is the corrosion of patriotic ties and the end of free government.

Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.” It pursues the stated object of the founders: “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological education” outstanding among American colleges “and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains “by precept and example” the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.
The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.
By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.

Note that not all progressively minded people support identity politics. Identity politics is a symptom of an overly sensitive society. And by overly differentiating itself it creates new divisions. Even the term 'African American' .. just call yourself Americans. Black lives matter, jist say American lives matter. It's more unifying. I think it's a vocal minority that's become accepted in mainstream discourse but the Democratic party would do themselves a great favor by tamping it down and focusing on law instead of gender and race. I assume that turns away a lot of independent voters.

Remember, for every complicated, difficult, and confusing problem, there is a solution that is simple, easy, direct, and wrong. Identity politics and its fellow traveler Critical Race Theory, are simple answers for the complicated problem posed by inequality within our society. And like every other overly-simplified solution, they are both wrong. Even worse, they are the mirror image of the thing they clams to fight: institutional racism.

    • @VeritableSmorgasbord

And like most oversimplified minds, yours is wrong. Your entire comment is one giant logical fallacy. A solution’s value is NOT gauged by its simplicity, actually.
Also CRT and IDpol aren’t solutions, they’re means to solutions, and they’re not simple. This video is simple. “Unequal treatment is evil no matter what” is simple. Conservatism is simple. (But it’s not wrong *because* it’s simple.)

Rich peop;le are thus able to win wealth by being bought. They sell themselves, they are whores who oppress others, they pay minimum wage to their employees and say that is all they deserve, making five times off the work of them that the workers for them get paid. and you go insulting the poor and underprivileged rather than the exploiter.

In 2015, White Christians ceased to a majority and by 2045, Whites themselves will cease to be a majority overall. The Californication of the country both demographically and politically will be our destiny unless the 1965 Immigration Act is reformed. The US needs to slow LEGAL IMMIGRATION to a more historically average level - around 250-500K per year while also integrating skills based system of selection. The rise of the Middle Class in America took place during the Immigration Pause between 1925 - 1965 when our current immigration system was put in place. The Middle Class ceased to be a majority in America in 2015 as well. Do the research, a country needs a 'base' demographic group that perpetuates its values and beliefs. Conservative policies and politicians are only popular with a majority of Americans of European descent - when they cease to be a majority so to will conservative political philosophy.

I am struggling to take this perspective seriously because it's failing to address the facts that have prompted this "unscientific" response in society. A tighter range of group outcomes would be expected in many more arenas in an equal opportunity society than we currently find because with the large numbers at play, sampling bias would be corrected. The fact that despite this correction some groups perform very well and significantly above their proportion in society in nearly every field, while others significantly worse, IS an indication that despite an ostensibly equal opportunity system, there may be implicit biases held by the powered, gate-keeping members of that system preventing those alleged equal opportunities from manifesting into results. Apparently, many people (enough to cause a big problem) fail to understand or act on the understanding that historical or perceived group performance does not predict future individual performance... So, there are good reasons to believe that large scale discrimination may exist! In a serious, purportedly academic discussion about the sometimes seemingly wild proposed responses to this issue we should at least acknowledge what's strengthened these ways of thinking. As it is, this video is polarizing and shows no trace of analytical thinking that would usher new solutions or even a better understanding: it's simply about demonizing a large scale response or a movement. There are enough ideologues to do this already in America.... It's embarrassing for this channel.
