  • This buyer's guide is based on my 18 months of ownership experience. Servicing, maintaining and learning.
Why bother? Because an L322 is greater than the sum of its parts.
Final warning. Don't buy one just because you like the colour!
Correction: I mention that these cars al made out of all aluminium. This is not correct. The body is all steel.
Thanks to one of my viewers for the correction in the comments.

Great guide you’ve put together there. I’ve had my 2011 4.4 TDV8 L322 for 5 years now, The belt tensioner was on its way out so replaced that along with all the pulleys, water pump, alternator as preventative maintenance. Started to get a slight smell of burning oil so replaced the oil cooler and O rings before it got worse. Replaced the elusive EGR temperature sensor that causes the code P040D-00 (2F), lower arms, starter motor, new battery and set of General Grabber AT3 tyres. I believe in preventative maintenance along with regular servicing and oil changes every 6000 miles. And get rid of those locking wheel nuts, they’ll cause you problems at the most inconvenient time.

2012, TDV8, 115000 miles, mostly serviced at LR service
have it for 8 months, done 6000 miles
Oil cooler had leaking (changed in LR service 13000 miles ago)
Job done myself (watched Your content). I saw silicone on the rear turbo feed hose (LR official replaced), i replaced with new viton o ring.
I have replaced 2 engine mounts (i had some resonance/vibration at 1000...1200 Rpm, felt unter left foot, LHD car), 80% better, but still some resonance at same rpm.
Some cooling leak found under car.(You explained in video, regarding o ring, i did not know that can be the cause)
      I add 200 ml every 2-3 weeeks.
No major issues, just some little things.
my opinion is that L322 owners like to work on their cars (at least 80% of them)
This car was purchased as third car, now is no1, i sold others, since this is the best one to drive, best looking (like it's shape, driving positions, switches, heavy doors, quality leather, manual rear split tailgate, old school style)
L322 exists since 2002, so in that time..this vehicle was ahead of it's time
It is not perfect in reliability,, but we all know that and we like that also:)

I have the same vehicle as you, even the same colour 2011 variet 4.4 . I changed all oils filters and belts on purchase and within a thousand miles the seconday turbo went. I replaced this and the car has been perfect. Everything works as it should. It has done a 117k and has a full service history. I also think that it has been used properly. By that I mean it has been revved properly so that there are no problems with the DPF. All tese questions! Its an old and reasonably complex car that will need regular servicing. I am due to head back for a service soon and things that I will be adding to the chores are; ......Nothing! If you buy cheap you will buy twice and if you do not maintain properly then it will break, like any other motor. I do get very tired of the youtube facination with these cars being unreliable. They are not, they are badly maintained. People always want something for nothing. Oh and rust on the wheel arches. None on mine and I always change oil every 5k. These cars are simply fabulous...if maintained. I paid 10k for mine and have spent about 5k since new. I budgeted for this.
