    I have a Common Diadem Butterfly catterpillar. Fun fact: The Hypolimnas misipus actualy looks like the Cethosia cyane! And the Common Diadem mimics the African Monarch too! What a mimicing species!😮😮😮

      Yes! The point is, Hypolimnas misippus mimic Danaus chrysippus for it's own protection. Danaus chrysippus is one of poisonous butterflies. If a bird ate it, it would vomit due to it's toxicity. It then will avoid butterflies that has the same/similar paterns.

    Is it hard to predict how much of the host plant is required for feeding a certain number of caterpillars? How do u manage ensuring you have enough?

      You always need a lot more leaf than you expect. There isn’t really a guide to it, every species is different but usually it’s best to rear small numbers and make sure they have enough leaf than to try rearing hundreds, and they run out of food half way through.

    I have a question? I live in Canada where there are no butterfly suppliers so is there a way i can send you a list of the butterfly’s i need and the money and you can purchase them and send them my way just a question?

    • @TropicalButterfliesUK
      @TropicalButterfliesUK  3 роки тому

      Hello, unfortunately I belive Canada is the same as the US where you need a permit to be able to keep any tropical species. The permits are only available to butterfly attractions rather than individuals so you would only be able to keep native species there.
