Dittoing the other people that have mentioned that we'd love to know how you guys do it visa wise? We are also looking into longer term arrangements in Thailand, but all options seem expensive or distracting for work, so would love to know if you found a solution!

As a Thai person who was born in the south, used to live in BKK, Phuket, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai and now living oversea. Hua Hin is still the best place for me compared to those touristic places. It's not too crowed, very close to Bangkok and very convenience to get around Thailand. Congrats!

Bondi boy here, Ive been living in Chiang Mai for over 5 years, been riding motorbikes for 50 plus years, trust me, riding bikes here, sooner or later you are going to come unglued, so PLEASE at LEAST wear some boots....... Ive been cleaned up twice here in serious bike accidents, both times just tootling along and got wiped off the road by drunk drivers, BUT a lesson I learned 50 years ago, NEVER RIDE WITHOUT PROTECTION, in both ""accidents"" here I hit the tarmac and rolled numerous times and got up with sore bones BUT ALL MY SKIN IN TACT cause i ALWAYS wear boots jeans jacket gloves FULL FACE HELMET,.......... I shudder when I see people riding in shorts and thongs......... you go down wearing thongs and shorts tshirts you are going to have months of PAINFUL RECOVERY.......... JUST DONT DO IT IF YOU LIKE YOUR BODY/SKIN THE WAY IT IS........... just sayin......... enjoy Hua Hin......... like you said...... focusing on health and wellbeing.......

Fantastic news for you all.Its a beautiful area. Relax and start living the life you want. Bear is so much part of your family. As you know, we have 3 black Labradors, which we can't live without. Have just returned from Singapore, and we had a young couple house sit with the oldest, the other 2 went to a pet care home, but truly it was very expensive. It was difficult to find anyone to sit with the 3 of them. I cried when I saw Bear. Love , peace and goodluck.x

Great video, Lloyd and Mandy, good to see you healthy and that you found a very nice pot o' gold at the end of that one of your many travel rainbows. I loved that you got your precious pooch down there as well. Thailand for 3 to 5 months is on my bucket list.
You mentioned that you spent some time in Mexico, and you liked many aspects of your stay there, but you had concerns about your safety. In been to Mexico 4 times, mostly on the the Caribbean Coast, but my dream is to spend sometime at several Central and west coast Mexico cities, San Miguel, Mexico City, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, with the hope of learning the language, possible do some long-term stays and establish residency. Mexico City has 124 museums, which really appeals to me.
Mexico is THE most popular country for ex pat Americans as well as Canadians and thousands of Europeans as well. People love the climate, the great food, the cost of living and the culture. Most of of the people I know that reside there, say that the petty and sometimes serious crime that occurs in Mexico is no doubt real, but it's not common everywhere, which is the case in nearly every popular country that deals with transplanted citizens, certain areas are safer than others. I respect your sense of adventure and I was wondering what cities did you experience in Mexico and what were your trepidations as far as safety? Best wishes in your new abode!

In Thailand people leave helmets on their bikes and go shopping. People don't lock bicycles. While I wouldn't say theft is unheard of, it's pretty rare. There's security at all the condos, but nothing ever happens. In 30 years, I've never been ripped off, and I haven't heard many stories (unless you are involved with prostitutes or drugs of course). Thai people are welcoming and friendly, and it's just a more developed, more secure, more convenient, better organized, cleaner country at less than half the price. You can get a great massage for less than $10 US.

I have been enjoying your vlog for years. My husband, son and I have been to SE Asia 8 times and have spent several months at a time, but haven't been able to make the leap of moving. I am drawn to Hua Hin, even though we have so many friends and spent so much time in Bali. Long story short, that is amazing to hear your dog was in Sicamous. That is where I lived for many years. Small world! We are still in BC with our dog and that has been another big thing holding has back from the move. Anyways, loving hearing your experience on Hua Hin, seems like it ticks a lot of boxes.

Hua Hin is a quiet beach town. It's easy to get to from Bangkok - about 3 hours by train South West. Not much action... a bit boring. The island of Koh Samet is about a similar distance. It's about 3 hours bus shuttle South East of Bangkok plus a ferry ride. Being a small island, Koh Samet has more beautiful beaches and all the action because it's close to BKK and Pattaya. Koh Samet is more friendly and less touristy than Phuket or Koh Samui.

Hua Hin is definitely a good choice: home to the primary summer royal residence of the late King Rama IX. It's also not as rainy as in the other parts of Thailand during the Monsoon season.

Congratulations on your decision! I was there just a month ago and had same kind of thought process you mentioned in the video. I can't wait for your next video that goes more into the details of your decision making. I'm still thinking about settling in that general area. I also found another remote place near Chiang Mai. Somehow it felt just like home when I was there. While the beach has a special pull, this other place captivated me much more with its unique laid back ambiance and surroundings.
Back to the viewpoint: They really need to post some signs, or post a security guard to warn the tourist about the monkeys. This huge male monkey aggressively attacked my scooter trying to steel the bag of coconuts that were hanging on the scooter. He just would not let go. I managed to fight him off eventually. But when I came back from the viewpoint I found scooter seat ripped. There were some granola bars locked under the seat. Needless to say, this cost me some money when I returned the scooter. Then I was at another viewpoint, about an hour south of Hua Hin. As I entered the parking lot, out of nowhere a big monkey jumped all over me, it was as if he was waiting for me to enter the parking lot. I think he was hiding in a tree overhead. So thing to remember is not to have any food items on you or in the scooter. But don't let that scare you, it's nuisance, mainly in the mountain areas.

Backpacking for a year. When I was 18/19 back in 1973, I lived out of my backpack for almost a year in Europe. I hitchhiked and rode trains all over Germany, France, Austria, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, Canary Islands, and Madeira. I also worked 3 different jobs, 2 in Germany and 1 in Switzerland.
I slept in many hostels, in homes of people I met, on many trains, in a bus, on the beach, in a cave, in a castle, in a row boat on the beach, in a barn, in an airport, on a "slow" boat, and on a plane. After 11 months, I was worn out and homesick. I met many great people, and many people who were very kind to me. One couple even "adopted" me. Initially, I went to Germany to become fluent in German, which never happened. I took German in high school and college, and really improved after working and living in Germany. But, I was burned out and needed to be stationary again.
But, 2 years later and a girlfriend (now my wife), I/we went back to Europe, hitchhiking/backpacking and wandering and sleeping on trains and in hostels for 3 months in the wintertime (bad idea). After that, I really needed to be in a permanent location again.
In 2000, with just a daypack, my wife and I spent a month in Switzerland, Spain, Portugal and the Azores, traveling by train, boat, bus, plane, and "a little" hitchhiking. When our kids were in elementary school, we moved to the Big Island in Hawaii for a year. We also lived in Iowa for 3"+ years, 7 months in Lake Placid, and several years all over rural, northern California. Again, it's great to have a homebase.
Now, as we are close to 70, we are preparing to vagabond in our vehicle for "brief periods", regularly returning to our permanent homebase. John, California

Congrats! When I visited that viewpoint, I was thinking the horse had run away from someone. Turned out it belonged to the family keeping a restaurant up there. Happy horselife I guess :)

Lloyd, yes it really is always best (smart!) to assume that wild animals are rabid.
Also, please never show any animal fear, because they will pick up on it and take advantage of your fear.
Lovely to see Bear living with and loving up on his Mum and Dad.
He must have missed you so!

Thank you for your time and posting. For all future bloggers, drones IMO will be a must. I thought about Thailand, but to retire there is too difficult. A bit of a bummer. So am looking at Vietnam. Question, please. Is there an advantage to living there as an Australian (visa, retiring, etc.)? I have dual citizenship; Australian and US. Thank you again.

Khao Takiab Monkey Mountain is my favourite viewpoint in Hua Hin. Also has a really lovely and inexpensive restaurant half way up the hill. I always approach it from the beach side. Hua Hin is my go to place. Close enough to BKK if I need to go shopping or the big city experience. Hopefully see you around the place when I'm back there in April.

How do you plan to deal with the visa situation and having Bear? Will you do visa runs and have someone watch him while you're away? Learn Thai on a student visa? Elite visa?
Would also be interesting to see a Hua Hin cost breakdown. Been over a good chunk of Thailand but never been to Hua Hin myself.

Hey guys - Hello from Melbourne - I’m glad you went up to Lek Fei lookout , it’s a really good spot and generally quiet . Congratulations, Hua Hin is an excellent place for a base
I luv it there , I like to stay about 3kms from the centre of town . I will be back there next month - look forward to seeing more of HH through your videos and Bear 👌✔️👋👍😎🙏

At Hua hin, we might get passenger ship (boat) to Pattaya. Thai government set fast train project from Bangkok to Hua Hin, Pra-Juab Kirikhan province.

I'm tempted by other places but Hua Hin does have it all...except a nightclub lol.
Most bars play too much 'wedding music'.
Where did you guys get the motorbike sidecar?
I've been struggling to buy one for my 3 dogs.
    Welcome to HH.

So great to see bear! I love hua hin. One of my new favorite places. If you want to check out some very nice non aggressive monkeys take a short trip south of hua hin to Prachuap kiri kan city and head to Wing 5 airbase and there is a rest area that has some dusky leaf monkeys that hangout and eat peanuts from your hand

I've been to all those places you have, and I think Hua Hinn totally makes sense. Glad ya got your dog! LIFE IS GOOD! Would sure be interested in how you git your place/ did you have to sign a long term lease? What are the positives and negatives? also, how do you handle paying your income taxes. back home etc. and also how about your medical insurance in case you get injured. Thanks for the cool content I've seen!

Fasting, meaning all day or intermittent fasting where you don’t eat certain hours within the day? For example, only eat from 13:00-19:00 (1:00-7:00 pm)??
