As with any project like this there are _tons_ of variations in terms of parts, software, and execution to play with. Let me know what you'd do differently, I'm sure we can collectively come up with something far better! Also, I'm looking into getting a nice 3D printer in the future since I'd love to try making my own case. Would appreciate suggestions.
For menu game artwork and details, I humbly recommend my own game scraper called Skyscraper. It's in the official RetroPie-Setup menu under the Experimental packages (scroll to the bottom). It can do all sorts of crazy things. I personally prefer to install it using the method described at the github page, but as it is now available officially in the menu, some prefer that method. Either way, here's the github page: github.com/muldjord/skyscraper And here's a video showing the Skyscraper compositor in action: ua-cam.com/video/TIDD8EFSz50/v-deo.html
Hey Clint, I highly Recommend Lulzbot. They are an American made brand from Colorado (shout out to my home state!) and they are pretty much one of the best for Pro-sumer/Professional printers. We have a Tazbot Mini, and it is freaking awesome. You're looking at around 1500, but for quality and dependability, they're worth it.
I would recommend going with a case from Retroflag there a bit bigger coming in around the same size as the nes and snes classic (they even look like them) but they look and feel great. I also have my games loaded on to a external flash drive rather than the sd card this makes transfer a little easier and allows for simpler upgrades down the line in I run out of space.
Low-res, unfiltered textures? Affline warping? Blocky edges with absolutely no anti-aliasing? Ahhhhhhh, it's a like a *warm, jagged blanket of retro nostalgia. I love it.
Fun fact: Raspberry Pi 3B is actually faster than PlayStation Classic. The former features quad core A53 while the later comes with the much slower A35 cores.
Owww man, why people insist in buying something like that...I mean, I know these official retro consoles are what it says on the thin (being official, and only nintendo giving a damn about them). But you could make something even better, you know?
@@KORUPTable An even better choice tbh, most phones today are usually more powerful than pc's a decade+- old. I still had to see a perfect working version of dolphin and pcsx2 (dolphin already seems capable of such task at the very least).
@mamamia88 Sad but true. Even if it's not that hard, people still want something that they just plug in the screen and had a big logo of how official the thing is, even if the company has no love for the thing they build.
@@silverloto6773 I dont get why you are hating on the consumers of such a product? Not everybody cares about computer hardware or building their own emulators. In fact, most people just want to buy something that plugs in and plays games out of the box. And theres nothing wrong with that. They aren't "stupid", they just arent hobbyists like us. That's all.
@@MegaTechpc I have never said that they were stupid or anything like that. The things is, like the first comment said the cpu of this model of raspberry pi it's faster than the one on the playstation classic, so if someone make their own retro console (as shown in the video) they could perfom other task aside from emulating PS1 titles, such as running an OS, running an frontend arcade os (retropie) to emulate dreamcast and other systems. I never hate on anything, like I said above, nintendo does care for their retro systems (there was a note from devs greeting everyone who hack their system and upload their roms to the console), and even if sony did fail in some aspects with the PS1 Classic (the number of games it came, and not giving some of their best games, even obscure ones with large following, what they deserve. And we yet to see how to add isos to the console), they could surely make it better with enough time and more research. Again, I just love games and almost any console along with pc games (even retro pc and D.O.S games/machines).
Me and my dad played the heck out of the PS1, and I was beyond excited to get him the PlayStation classic for Christmas this year. That being said, the disappointment was even stronger. You got me back to that original excitement, and he'll be able to play things from his childhood too after I get everything set up! Thanks LGR!
Yeah, I'm only 22. My dad was barely 18 when I was born. It happens. He grew up with an Atari, and a NES later on. Both second hand. He got the PlayStation the year it came out, and I was born the next year. That was the last time he baught a console for himself, and fell away from gaming as he became a dad. The retropie machine I threw together for him was a huge success though. He loves it, and we play the multiplayer games from my very early childhood whenever I visit. And I hear he's just as good at dig dug and qbert as he used to be.
Bryce McKenzie I call this the LGR Station Superior Edition (there is only one edition of the LGR Station, but it is inherently superior to Sony's cheap bargain-bin PlayStation Classic.
If just to play single player.. They is a alternative that more easier.. Buy cheap android tv box 16Gb, buy cheap Bluetooth controller/using ps4 controller, download epsxe emulator, and ps1 games data.. Whalla.. You can enjoy it.. But, the problem is, you cannot pair multi controller, as psx classic can play for 2 player..

@@Bryanbobber I usually found it by Googling "Royale Blue XP" and following the Softpedia link. It comes as an "install shield" setup-like application. It doesn't install any programs or additional software, but after installing it, the theme is available from the dropdown.

The Cando Railfan it makes the whole PlayStation classic look redundant, since most of those games can be downloaded, and I can find better PS1 games to play.
@@Markimark151 YOU can find better, but that doesn't mean you CAN download them legally. Dump them, buy them officially (PSClassic or on SONY's new consoles). Or, from the internet, but that's illegal. I am sure sometime you will be screwed for pirating those games. "THEY'RE OLD" isn't an argument, they're still awesome and still far cheaper then they were. NESClassic - one game is 60 bucks in USA when it was on original NES, 60 bucks is original NES Classic price, 30 games, 2$ per game. SNESClassic - 4$ per game and PSClassic - 5$ per game.
It’s crazy that we literally need to make an effort to preserve these games. Like as if they’re books and an empire is attempting to burn all knowledge.

Nice vid. I've been thinking about doing something like this for awhile, but I've been too lazy to look up guides to see how involved it is. Now that I see how simple and inexpensive it is, I'm sold.
It sold me too, for certain. I have an old MAME cabinet I set up almost 10 years ago. It struggles on anything less retro than 16-bit games and is the size of a VCR. This, a total setup of $100 that can play 64-bit games and sized to a deck of cards? And no countless hours of manual modification needed? Definitely time to upgrade!
I bought a Pi 3 after receiving a gift card to some store, and boy, is that little board versatile. After toying around, it became my retro game machine since RetroPie is so simple and well documented. I did install the Pixel desktop, fiddled around with webcam surveillance things, using it as a web server after RetroPie was installed, though.
I watched a PlayStation Classic review literally an hour ago. When I heard how underwhelming it is, my first thought was how long it will take before someone makes a better, custom version using a Raspberry Pi. Well, that was fast.
@@TheTurnipKing Well, our pal (hehe, PAL) LGR here said that he put his together in June 2017, so that would be around -18 months. So yeah, even better. PS. While on the topic of PSX, your nickname makes me wanna play Harvest Moon: Back to Nature :3
That can be said about any of those gimmicky ass "mini" consoles nintendo and other companies have released. Way better stuff can be made/bought for about the same money, in fact, for the price of one of those machines you can build one that runs all of those systems and more.
@@carl.j917 The only reproduction consoles worthwhile are the ones that can use cartridges, and only some of them. The ATGames Genesis has 80 games and a cartridge slot and is cheaper than these minis.
Sony probably gave the "PlayStation Classic" project to a new employee who knows nothing about consoles or the PlayStation because he originally applied as Security Guard, at Sony!
Hardly, this case looks terrible. I bet the heat dissipation is really bad as well, the heat sink must nearly be touching the top of the case. Kintaro are making a Playstation case for the raspberry pi in the future if anyone's interested, Would look a hell of a lot better than this...
@@Mdgr_zolom I noticed that too, but I actually got interested in this build unlike the piece of shit inside a nice looking plastic that Sony did. Of course I would rather get a better case and a better heating solution if I got one myself, but I still think what he did is still better than the piece of crap Sony did.
I just want to give a thanks to all community specially the people who where involved in making all of this and made all of this acceptable to the public. Words cannot explain the joy you guys have brought to me using your software/emulations. Thank you.
Yeah, it's more likely that they're gonna be in used video game stores and pawn shops and stuff at like $30 for the next ten years. Point is still valid though!

I really don't get the point ? Sony would sell much more by making two separate consoles. Also, since they'd need to emulate two different hardwares AND to get games for both, the cost would've been much higher.
The irony of the Raspberry Playstation being smaller than the NES Classic or the PS classic, is of course that the Pi has better hardware for less money. So it's smaller, cheaper, better, more powerful, and can run desktop linux if you ever get bored of the emulation.. Hmmm,, what to pick i wonder. :D
The PS1 had too many good games to only have 20 on the ps1 classic. I have a raspberry pi I used to play mainly ps, NES, gba and n64 as well. Great nostalgia and incredibly power efficient stuff
I built a retro console raspberry pi system just recently. 3+ model used with the Kintaro 9000 case which looks just like an SNES with functioning power and reset sliders. Totally sweet! Project turned out great. Got it loaded up with all the major consoles from NES to PS1. Even got some PC ports like Doom and Duke3D on there but still haven't got the controls mapped to the controller I'm using. Still a work in progress but great fun. Love your build and your videos, Clint. Take care.
Speaking of woodgrain, I just realized how beat up his table has gotten :( I wonder if we can all convince him to give it a good sanding and a fresh coat of lacquer, because it seems like a nice table and deserves a little TLC after being such a champ in all these vids over the years.
That would've been a "PItari 2600", also probably much better than the real "Atari Flashback" made a while ago (I want to bet someone else out there have already done one or several of them...
Hearing and seeing that Need for Speed game brought back memories of waking up at too damn early o clock and realizing my mom is playing need for speed before I had school in the morning. I realize she literally stayed up all night to play it and she later told me that she intentionally lost the disc so she won't play it anymore. I didn't care since I didn't like racing games [it came with a bundle for the playstation] but still good memories. Good video dude.
It boggles my mind why they didn't repurpose the PSTV hardware for the official Classic. The emulation is way better being their own in house solution and Sony already had the hardware and tooling available. They could've slapped it in a new case, changed the UI, and manage to revive a recently discontinued product easily. Not to mention it'd have the added bonus of being connected to the PSN store to allow for purchasing more PS1 titles.
7:50 OMG NFS3. Man, I loved that game... It seems stressful but DO IT. PlayStation Classic isn't that good, make your own thing and do it right. You'll be tired, you'll probably screw up the parts a little if you're new to building things, but in the end you'll get it working and it'll be much better than the Classic. Myself, I love emulating on PC. I don't know about PS1 emulators, but for PS2 emulation on my PC I can increase the resolution of the textures and go nuts, and people always comment "Damn how does your PS2 look so fancy?" =P
Yes, but I feel more seeing Tomb Raider, man that was times when games had such a great atmosphere that no one cared about the some hundret huge pixels the games was made of and Tomb Raider was one of the best, but PS had really bad graphics, on PC NFS looked ways better
Oh yeah there is certainly good pc emulation for ps1 on pc. epsxe can make things look smoother and sharper. Never liked retroarch emulators and interface, I prefer just having emulators standalone.
Man, these LGR vids are so good and relaxing. Thanks for making all these quality content! You really are a beam of happyness that's much needed in my life :)
It would be cool if any third-party company sells a specialized PS1 classic shell for Raspberry Pi with working buttons and USB ports connected with the Pi hardware. Thanks for the video, Clint
Well, although they don't yet have a PS model yet, Retroflag does have well made and good looking cases shaped as NES, SNES, SFC, and Mega Drive/Genesis. They even have router cards on the inside for proper I/O placement and function on each model case. They have a website, and sell trough Amazon. retroflag.com/ I will get two of them soon, the SFC and the Mega Drive, but more for the fun factor of having a fairly inexpensive system, being able to separate the games from both Nintendo and Sega home consoles and portables, lodged in their respective look-a-like cases. For more serious and varied emulation, i'll go the Nvidia Shield route. It's a well polished product, and a heck of a lot more powerful for emulation.
what make me angry is that i would happily rebuy digital copy of classic ps1 and ps2 game if Sony add a backwards compatible support for the ps4. If backwards compatible for PS3 is too difficult i kinda understand but there's no reason they can't make the ps4 run ps1 and ps2 game except lazy and now Sony try to feed on ours nostalgia with the cheap mini consoles that run the pc emulator that they use to sue in the first place. *And i know some of the ps2 game you can play on ps4 but that it more of a port and the selection is way, way too poor for the legendary ps2.
You know, ps3 is perfectly capable to emulate ps1 and ps2, but they removed the feature to emulate ps2 in their updates (you can still use it if you mod the console). Sony is not lazy, but worse, they want to stop you from playing their old games so that you must always buy the newest products. The ps classic in facts just includes 20 of them and is a collectible rather than an actual console.
The earliest PS3 models actually had PS2 hardware in them for PS2 games. Newer models can only emulate, which works fine most of the time. But not always. Sony's PSX and PS2 emulators are functional, but give you zero options to improve the picture and that's a shame.
@@clochard4074 There are some emulated PS2 games on Ps store for the PS3, but software PS2 emulation on PS3 is really shoddy. "Sony is not lazy, but worse, they want to stop you from playing their old games so that you must always buy the newest products" There might be some truth in this, but a more fair explanation would be that they don't see any profit in bringing back old games to PS4 through emulation, so they don't bother with it. I mean let's be honest, PS1 and PS2 games are damn ugly for gamers who are used to the PS4 or even PS3 generation and often times, they have clunky gameplay. And even though there might be a demand from older games to play them on newer systems they would want to play the games they already not buy them again so again, no profit to be made there. Now, PS5 will definitely have PS4 backwards compatibilty because it would be a huge selling point for PS5 at launch especially if it can run PS4 games in higher quality (imagine Bloodborne or Horizon Zero Dawn in 4K 60fps for example). However, PS3 and below is questionable.
@@weaverquest Well, while ps2 emulation wasn't perfect, they directly killed the feature that was already there. If not enough players were interested in those games, then why the playstation classic, why all the emulators? How can we say newcomers can't enjoy them when I see my little brother play those games alongside the new ones? Why there is no need preserving older games? If they don't look nice they can't serve any purpose? You are talking of them like disposable products, all equivalent, with no value aside killing some time. This is in my opinion a degrading way to look to the entertainment industry. Try this reasoning with old movies or old books. I don't want to sound aggressive, but I've heard this story too many times, and it eerly resembles what sony repeats to the presses: "You don't really want it, we know what is best for you!". If Sony really don't care about older games, why are they so bothered if people emulates them?
@@clochard4074 I didn't say they are disposable products that have no value after a certain period. I am not talking about them like that nor think that way. We are looking at it from different perspectives. What I said was that it is just not profitable for Sony. To actually put effort, time and money to *properly* bring those games to newer systems. Why PlayStation classic? Well, because the entire idea behind that concept is selling the same old games but in a "different" way with minimal effort. Open source emulator, incredibly limited number of games to offer, and probably the cheapest hardware possible repackaged in a product that feels new to the customer but is actually the same old thing sold at a premium. The OG PS3 had PS2 hardware inside so PS2 games worked great through hardware emulation. Later models took out some parts understandably due to cost but also left some and handled the rest with software emulation which was not as good and had reduced compatibility with games. By the time of slim PS3, only software emulation was possible and as I said it was bad. Just like the PS1 classic which Sony clearly put zero thought and effort into, I would rather have Sony not sell the PS2 games on PS3 with that crappy emulator because it is unfair to the customer. Looking at what PS1 classic turned out to be, it would be better if it didn't exist at all imo. And that sums up my point. Selling PS1 and PS2 games should be done right with the proper effort put into the emulators to make all the games run great with minimal issues but the problem is, there is probably no financial incentive in doing so. Sony should know that since they surprisingly managed to achieve the PS1 software emulation on PSP and also made it possible that when you buy a PS1 game on PSN it would also work on PS Vita and the PS3 but I assume they didn't gain much from that. Preserving old video games is indeed important but that doesn't necessarily mean bringing them to new consoles in whatever way possible. Best way to introduce old games to new generations are in fact the remakes such as Crash Insane Trilogy or Spyro Reignited Trilogy, not putting them out the exact way they are with open source emulator. But of course, that's much harder to do. Also lastly let's not compare video games with movies and books. It is an unfortunate fact that video games do age badly, and really fast due to improvement in technology and developers getting better and better in this field which hasn't existed for very long. But I believe that's going slow down with this and later generations and the quality and design aspect of games will be the main focus rather than the tech behind it.
love watching your videos LGR you keep it interesting all the way through. I don't get bored to the point where I start skipping through stuff and I think a lot of people can agree on that.
If you're gonna try a project like this, use a Pi 3B+ (PLUS) rather than a 3B. They run faster by default and may not even need a heatsink due to the integrated metal heat spreader, better 5Ghz Wi-Fi and gigabit ethernet built in, come with a header for Power over Ethernet (PoE), and cost exactly the same price. What's not to love? If tight space and lower power are important then you might consider the Pi 3A+. It should be the same speed as the 3B+ in terms of emulation but it's quite a lot smaller, $10 cheaper, uses less power than even the 3B and has less ports. Of course if you want to go even further there's the Pi Zero, but that is going to struggle emulating the PS1...
Pi Zero is a fine avenue for NES, Game boy and other less demanding systems. Microcenter sometimes has a sale where you can get a pi zero for a dollar. Pretty sweet deal
There is an optional emulator under the retroarch settings, and it emulates ps1 on pi zero very nice. I usually play my ps1 games on my pi zero with that emulator. The only problem is, it's not working with bluetooth xbox one controller.
It impresses me that just a fan or someone that knows a bit of tech can make a more amazing product then most millionaire companies. Power to the people!
Because a fan doesn't have to deal with licensing fees, mass production cost, and profit margins. He's ripping illegally downloaded software and only making a single one for himself. The PS Classic is still shit, but let's not act like there is a level playing field here.
@@vash_visionz the only thing that might be illegally downloaded are the rom files and it's entirely possible he legally owns the ones he used. Not very likely, but possible. I can't believe how pixelated the PS1graphics used to be. That's insane that we 90s kids totally put up with that back in those days. haha! I feel old lol.
That's exactly what I did. I also bought a PS controller-to-usb adapter and soldered the pins to the original PlayStation's controller ports so I can use original controllers. Even further, I tapped off the PlayStation's original power supply (which wasn't broken) and routed that straight to the Pi3 (so I can use an original power cable). And finally, wired the power LED to work properly and the reset button to actually reset the Pi3. All said, my PlayStation Classic is about as authentic as a retro console gets :)
@@TheCandoRailfan Then just wait a month until Goodwill will be full of unsold PlayStation Classics that nobody wanted and then gut them and put a RetroPi inside. :P
@@HawaiianKong I'd love to do something like that but also figure out how to connect the PS1's disc drive to the Pi. Edit: Although, if I decide to do this eventually and have the choice, I'd rather use the smaller, rounded PSOne model ( files.catbox.moe/42t0zk.png ) rather than the boxy original PSX.
I love my raspberry pi! I already have it loaded with tons of games from atari to playstation. I also got video clips and box arts for the games even got a custom theme on. alone the fact that platforms like the raspberry pi exist is just amazing and to see what projects people can come up with is almost greater than the platform itself
Accounting for the casing being variable per user, this is around the ballpark range of $20 cheaper in your build than the genuine Classic, and that's before scalpers get involved with it. It's ridiculous how lazy Sony is, especially since they want us to pay $100 for a neat case and a damn emulator that isn't even configured right.
This build does not include any games, so for Sony's option those $20 also gives you 20 legit games. I doubt there is a cheaper or more convenient way you can obtain such copies, unless you own the games already, of course (in which case the PS Classic was not targeted to you anyway),
Idk about any of the other people watching this channel, and i realize he said he ordered the rasberry pi, but him and the people who created the pi ended up creating something that, to me, is really freaking cool and it astounds me that people can make things like this when i still dont understand how to get my medieval 2 to run without lag.
Thanks for the idea, i've just got my Pi today, looking forward to install Retropie and spend most of the christmas vacation with my childhood PS1 games.
Nice. I bought a few PSX games on the PS3 through the online store and the experience was below that of emulation. Not even the aspect ratio was correct, plus the image was very soft.
Hacking my PS Classic with BleemSync was fun, but adding games is quite a tedious process to do manually, and not every game is guaranteed to work. The more I hear about Retropie, the more I'm starting to think this is the retro game solution for me!
I know this late and my third comment on this video already but I want to say thank you, LGR, I am having lots of fun with my RetroPie system and your video along ETA Prime's video has helped me pick out the right parts for my old-school gaming needs. Thank you.
And people are still defending the trash that Sony dared to charge $100 for. And even then, people are still only buying the PS1 classic just to hack it and add more games to it, when they can easily go this route and save some cash.
Aesthetics matter to some people, and the 3D printed cases available are total garbage compared to the official thing. That's the reason I bought a NES and SNES classic, the cases on those things are awesome and it was incredibly easy to add whatever games I wanted to them. I'm holding off on buying a Playstation Classic until either Sony or a fan releases a better frontend for the thing though, it's missing too many features right now and the ui just lacks the polish and charm that the Nintendo mini consoles have.
Keep in mind that a retropie still requires that you have or buy controllers. The PS4 controller clint uses in the video basically would double the price of this setup if you didn't already have one lying around. People might complain about them not being dualshock equivalents, but the system still includes two controllers. Controllers DO matter to the experience quite a bit. Part of the reason I bothered with the Nintendo ones is specifically the controllers that come with it.
@Naughty internet person The processor used in the classic release is actually inferior to a pi's, and RetroArch still has a whole slew of graphic options for tuning the classic release doesn't dispose of. Not to mention hacking the classic is a hassle compared to the ease of downloading roms to your heart's content at the drop of a hat via wireless. As for buttons, any analogless USB controller could do. Those usually go for dirt cheap. It really is just as you say: a 20% 'premium' product that is essentially worth 1/3rd of the practicality with no real purpose aside from the aesthetic choice. I agree, though: nothing to be salty about.
They are *selling* a 3D printed case with the official playstation logo on it? That'll last all of four minutes until they get sued for trademark infringement.
I know this is a year old but the modding community has really come out for this mini console. When I purchased the PS Classic for $99.00 I knew it wasn't the greatest product. However, I knew once the modding community got their hands on it...we would have something truly special. I even waited for quite a whike before I modded mine and now it's truly a mini console to die for. What's really neat about the PlayStation Classic is that it is powerful enough to emulate Sega Saturn games and we're now so close to getting them running flawlessly. Can you say Panzer Dragoon Saga and Dragon Force running smoothly via emulation?! ;)

Serious question; where can I buy one of these pre-built? I dont have the technical knowledge (or time) to put this sort of thing together myself. I would gladly pay someone for an emulation console
MrDemomanman, you may want to check out Rerez's (Shane Luis) YT account. He was sent last year (2017) a "Pi Station", like this one someone made just for him and it looked pretty much like that one Clint got, but with the Rerez logo instead of the PS one. The most likely reason for not being able to buy a pre-made one is that Sony's lawyers are notorious for going after people on copyright issues with less to go on than this time, so people have to "thread lightly" on this. If Sony got to subcontract to make a proper "Pi Station", based on this set of elements they would charge the same U$99 for it, but it would've been larger (like 2x as big, but still smaller than a licensed PS1 Classic) and probably would've performed much better than it did.

@@lovelorn88nick PSX games such as Metal Gear Solid, Rainbow Six, Spyro the Dragon or Colony Wars use analog sticks, which feel much more accurate in 3D games than the D-pad. I wonder how hard it would be to make the case slightly bigger and add a front facing slot loading CD-ROM, and functional Power, Reset, and eject buttons. 🤔
The hardest part would be the CD-ROM. Because the PS1 had a clamshell CD drive, getting that just right might be a bit of challenge. The power, reset, and eject buttons would be super easy via the GPIO pins.
I'm mostly a pre-NES era gamer, but this video inspired me to upgrade my recently purchased 3B with a proper case, fan, and heatsinks and give the PSX emulation a go. It's works amazingly and perfectly recaptures that old PlayStation magic. Thanks for the suggestions.
Remind me again why we still buy from mega corporations? An average person can do a better job than companies with million dollar budgets. They have experts, professionals and engineers and they still can't do it right. All we have is screwdrivers, printers and guides written by other guys with screwdrivers and printers.
Hobbyists will always do a better job because their motivation is more pure; it's about creating the best possible box, not the most profitable box. Sony have the money and the minds to absolutely blow away any amateur effort, but they have no incentive to do so. Their target audience is the people who are nostalgic but tech illiterate. It's like selling PC's to old people, you know you can pull the wool over their eyes and not really put any effort in because you're getting their money regardless, so why try too hard?
It's not in these companies interests to create a quality product that customers will enjoy. Their main purpose is to get money from nostalgic suckers. They cobble together a piece of crap out of the cheapest parts possible, put as little effort into the software as possible, then they slap a Playstation logo on and charge customers an arm and a leg for it.

It boggles my mind why they didn't repurpose the PSTV hardware for the official Classic. what make me angry is that i would happily rebuy digital copy of classic ps1 and ps2 game if Sony add a backwards compatible support for the ps4.
4:50 Windows XP? PS1 build? S W E E T .
love watching your videos LGR you keep it interesting all the way through.
Pretty sweet deal
does the PoE give enough power for PS1 emulation?
Any news about the Raspberry Pi 4 coming out?
Can you use the same power adapter?
I think you mean billionaire company my friend
@@vash_visionz the only thing that might be illegally downloaded are the rom files and it's entirely possible he legally owns the ones he used. Not very likely, but possible. Your point is entirely valid however. It's only to avoid breaking the law that these are not being made commercially. Except in China, where do what thou whilst is the whole of the law.
well I think this wouldnt be possible without the great open source community and ofc the raspberry pi foundation, so you should probably be impressed by them ;)

I can't believe how pixelated the PS1graphics used to be. That's insane that we 90s kids totally put up with that back in those days. haha! I feel old lol.
Of course, seeing it in a capture device, on a television directly watching it, they are not bad at all
Instead of making a 'mini' case, just buy a broken PS1 and use a real gutted PSX shell. It's gonna look much better anyway.
@@HawaiianKong That's actually... incredibly impressive. I would love to see a video of that.
@@TheCandoRailfan Then just wait a month until Goodwill will be full of unsold PlayStation Classics that nobody wanted and then gut them and put a RetroPi inside. :P
There aren't that many broken PS1s. Those things are hard to kill (except broken lasers), unless you throw it at the wall few times.
@@HawaiianKong I'd love to do something like that but also figure out how to connect the PS1's disc drive to the Pi. A system that plays PS1 games from iso *or* from disc, uses the original controllers, and also plays SNES, Genesis, and N64 (with limitations)? Yes please!
Edit: Although, if I decide to do this eventually and have the choice, I'd rather use the smaller, rounded PSOne model ( files.catbox.moe/42t0zk.png ) rather than the boxy original PSX.
You have written when building starts in description and it is pretty visible.

I love my raspberry pi! I already have it loaded with tons of games from atari to playstation. I also got video clips and box arts for the games even got a custom theme on. I plan on getting the mega drive pi case that has a functional led and power switch. Right now I use the nes pi case from retroflag that has a power switch and led.
You'll love the MEGAPI case. It's really nice. Highly recommend it. The SNES retroflag case is good to. Very identical to the SNES classic mold
Keep up retro stuff tech stuff. Thank you so much for what you create, you do so great at it. The thrift videos of spotlighting the tech seen their :) thank you .
alone the fact that platforms like the raspberry pi exist is just amazing and to see what projects people can come up with is almost greater than the platform itself
My laptop is my Retroarch machine. I love that sucker. And the achievement integration into retro games is absolutely amazing.
5:20 OMG WINDOWS XP, I miss it so much!

Thank you for letting the PS1 start up play all the way through, you the real MVP.
i've just recently been bought a ps1 from a charity shop for christmas
I bought the PlayStation Classic, then I modded it to play all the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games. I'm happy now.
Aren't PSX games emulated on later models? I know that the case is true for PS2 titles, they run terribly.
@@KuraIthys You could always buy a usb ps1/2 controller input. i had one that supported 2 controllers. Then you get to use real controllers
For now it seems to be fine. Just wait until companies like Nintendo notice. Lawsuits will rain like fire from the heavens.
Sounds like the company is selling the 3D printing process, he just supplied the plans for the case in which he got from someone else.
Man I Love PS.1 so much.😎👍
That Playstation Sound when it Starts,
Always gets me, you know?.😉👌
I know this is a year old but the modding community has really come out for this mini console.

If Sony got to subcontract to make a proper "Pi Station", based on this set of elements they would charge the same U$99 for it, but it would've been larger (like 2x as big, but still smaller than a licensed PS1 Classic) and probably would've performed much better than it did.

you're essentially paying full price of admission not once but twice for just 25% of the total of your purchase because the classic release is already moddable. it just points toward you not being very intelligent at managing your money or just not very intelligent in general. hardly anything worth getting defensive over. unless you're too stubborn to recognize it, which would prove my second assumption as correct
@@lovelorn88nick PSX games such as Metal Gear Solid, Rainbow Six, Spyro the Dragon or Colony Wars use analog sticks, which feel much more accurate in 3D games than the D-pad. You're the stupid one here.

Finally we can get more playthroughs of barbie games and some Mary Kate and Ashley
We're all eagerly awaiting those.

Sony, just as every other company needs to profit from their products, that's why they sell them. That's why he managed to build much better console.
Others buy for brandnames, but there are times its not worth buying it.
Not everyone has an interest in being that tech-savvy (even though it isn't _that_ involved).
