I also do remember Gene Pitney, yet really don't remember hearing this collaboration, which I heard played on Greatest Hits Radio this morning; what a great combination with these two voices 👍 [I am off to listen to some more Gene Pitney songs now, realising that I definitely do like his distinctive voice...]
NO ONE can sing this song like Gene Pitney. He was a true gentleman, family man and great artist who was always so appreciative of his fans. I am 70 years old and grew up listening to and loving his music. His family must miss him terribly, and I do too. Rest in peace, Gene.
TRULY EPIC❤️ INTO ETERNITY AND BEYOND "Dragging my soul to a beautiful land ": and this beautiful land is indeed where I am transferring to every time throughout the decades I listen to this stunningly beautiful - -indeed such a Heavenly Devine- a Monumental Immortal Classic 🎶 of an eternal magical marvel by singer songwriter Gene Pitney and gaining new fame in the beautiful immortal duet with Marc Almond in the late 1980s. Forever bringing sunshine warming my heart and soul up here in cold & dark Norway. Thank you ever so truly and gratefully-❤ most warmly and dearly ❤ you guys❤ for dragging my heart & soul to a beautiful land into Eternity and Beyond ❤ Always grateful, R.I.P marvellous marvel Gene Pitney: Such a genuinely true GENIUS with this most fantastically, stunningly beautiful voice like no other🎉NEVER EVER forever for posterity to Eternity. It is still so unbelievably sad that you - The Mr Magic Marvel -left us all far too soon😢 but you will, however, forever and ever deserve all our deepest gratitude and appreciation❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Forever sorely missed❤️
Me too because I ve been hooked on particular voices since my birth. Limitless list...Gene was one of a kind whereas Mark s was more supple, soft and subdued
Something's gotten hold of my heart Keeping my soul and my senses apart Something's gotten into my life Cutting its way through my dreams like a knife Turning me up and turning me down Making me smile and making me frown In a world that was small I once lived in a time there was peace with no trouble at all But then you came my way And a feeling unknown shook my heart, made me want you to stay All of my nights and all of my days I gotta tell you now Something's gotten hold of my hand Dragging my soul to a beautiful land Something has invaded my mind Painting my sleep with a colour so bright Changing the grey and changing the blue Scarlet for me and scarlet for you I've got to know if this is the real thing I've got to know what's making my heart sing You smile and I am lost for a lifetime Each minute spent with you is the right time Every hour, every day You touch me and my mind goes astray
Happen to be a big fan of both men, and, of this great song. Much as I love Marc Almond, there is nothing to compare to Gene's original when his voice was so strong, and so original. I've always had GP down along with Roy Orbison as the most original and striking male vocalists, although there are many great ones.
Gene Pitney was the sound of my childhood blurting out of the radiogram, Marc Almond the sound of my teen years blurting out of my bedroom window... Whoever had the musical mind to blend these to voices and personalities together was a genius.. Just a view..
Great combination of the original with the cover of this incredible Gene Pitney classic. Marc Almond did a great cover with Gene, Love it. Miss Gene Pitney he was a legend.
ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS EVER!! . IT REMINDS ME OF MY CHILDHOOD IN SIXTEES WHEN I WAS LISTENING THIS SONG ALMOST EVERY DAY PLAYING IN JUKEBOX IN SOUDA BAY GREECE. IT CAME BACK IN MY LIFE WITH THIS FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE. GOD BLESS BOTH GENE AND MARC.
@@rohansrider was that near Birmingham uk? I saw him about 1970, when I was 15, at New Street Odeon Birmingham. Think the support group was Marmalade and a ventriloquist. Fist time he couldn't make it because of snow, but returned. But actually I think he was even better near the end of his life when I saw him two years running at Buxton opera house. Great singer and performer.
@@MrStatman80 I suppose because Marc Almond wasn't ready and they were busy. The time was right when it happened, and I think it led to a great revival of Gene's stage career
It breaks my heart to watch Gene at the end of his underrated career , such a generous, faithful man whose voice was extraordinary with Mark Almond still active live in Europe singing numerous concerts, aged 62...he looked impressed indeed ...since it was released I must have listened to this duo 150 times...still emotional as nobody in my country France has ever heard of him...
This is a great duet but there's something about yesterdays singers, they just had that special ingredient that we'll never see again & this WAS Gene's song. He didn't seem to mind sharing it with another singer but honestly can anyone beat Gene's unforgettable sound. He was one unique individual who we'll never forget.
❤ Truly EPIC this DUET i.e Heavenly devine beautiful immortal song forever "dragging my (heart) and soul to a beautiful land" into Eternity and Beyond. Original is immense and this is great too. Gene Pitney is magical singing this. What a voice. Also love the fact he doesnt look like a natural showman, like something from a David Lynch movie. Amazing.
I just heard this awesome duet today! Incredible! I like it even better than Mr. Pitney's original! So glad a record of this quality hit #1 in the U.K.! So cool!

Yes,a very accurate description!
I am the same age, what you just posted word for word could have come from me, his music will never die, RIP Gene, gone far too soon !
I grew up listening to him because of my mom and I just found this song. Such a great singer.
He was qualified lift engineer
Pitney was a qualified lift engeneer
This was one of my favorites by Gene, and Marc just added to the wonderfulness
Me to
This was number one in 1989 when I had my son. It's always been special to me. I'll have it played at my funeral
Oh Boy! Just look at Almond containing his excitement of sharing the stage with such a legend in order to keep the performance clean... this was epic
Pitney looks like he's licking a window
1) this is mimed
2) it’s terrible in every single way

Love Gene Pitney's voice .... But you know Marc Almond's voice isn't too bad either ! Wow ! Love it !
@@DaisyDebs Soft Cell did a few classics.
Frankly, I find his voice rather awful and unpleasant.
It's a perfect song and sings GenebPitney, too... Marc was so Smart..... A very easy and ready success..... Ts ts ts

Outstanding duet with 2 amazing artists. still like to listen to after all these years.

אני אוהב את השיר
Something's gotten hold of my heart
Keeping my soul and my senses apart
Something's gotten into my life
Cutting its way through my dreams like a knife
Turning me up and turning me down
Making me smile and making me frown
In a world that was small
I once lived in a time there was peace with no trouble at all
But then you came my way
And a feeling unknown shook my heart, made me want you to stay
All of my nights and all of my days
I gotta tell you now
Something's gotten hold of my hand
Dragging my soul to a beautiful land
Something has invaded my mind
Painting my sleep with a colour so bright
Changing the grey and changing the blue
Scarlet for me and scarlet for you
I've got to know if this is the real thing
I've got to know what's making my heart sing
You smile and I am lost for a lifetime
Each minute spent with you is the right time
Every hour, every day
You touch me and my mind goes astray
