  • In this video, which is in association with Titleist, Neil Tappin heads to Woburn for a golf ball fitting with expert Tom Hiscock. They run through the process from half pitch shots through to the driver, testing all of the premium balls in the Titleist range. Is Neil's current ball - the Pro V1x - right for his game and what can you learn from the process?

    Fantastic video, Neal. Learned a lot about ball fitting, especially, that you fit the ball to the player from the green backwards and that you fit the player to the ball with the driver. Thanks so much.

    I like pro v1x In calm conditions but not so much when the wind blows. Would love to get hold of some left dot pro v1s. Tried the left dash pro v1x s liked them off the driver but found it felt too hard around the green for my liking

    Thanks, Neil that was really interesting and someday when I get myself organised I really MUST get myself a Ball Fitting.
    Doing my own experimentation I usually find that I prefer the softer feel of the PROV1with the Putter and pitch shots around the green, but with full shots, I get better results overall with the X model.
    So in the end I just get confused and fluctuate between both, which probably is a pretty bad idea.

      I've found the same thing. Usually I go for the Pro v1 because putting is my weakness and my speed on the greens with the v1 is a lot more consistent than the v1x, not sure technically why that it but it just is. The v1x is huge off the tee with the driver for me though, about 10 yards further on good drives than the v1, but I'd rather make more putts than get 10 yards more off the tee so the v1 it is.

      Same as well for me. Struggling to decide as I seem to play different styles when I know whether its a pro v or the x. Need to make a decision.

    Have you ever tried the MYNT Wizard Pro. I have just ordered a dozen 3 weeks ago. Really nice performance and very good response and soft feel. I love the packaging design. Worth a try in my opinion. Always love to try new stuff

    Love the video, was Neil recommended a Titleist budget ball. I'm sure most of us would prefer to use premium balls but what if you're on a limited budget?

    • @kymstock1852

      Budget premium balls like Snell MTB Black or Inesis Tour 900. Very close to ProV1 at 50% less price.

      Yes. Titleist ProV-Left for one direction. Titleist ProV-Right for the other. Titleist Overcast-X for drizzly days work best.

    Clearly all these balls are Titleist. And if they are a sponsor, sure no worries, but is there a more independent/ unbiased version of this available that would recommend possibly another brand of ball, e.g. Top Flight?

    This is a realm of golf that will never apply to me. My golf ball fitting consists of retrieving all the ProV1's and ProV1x's out of water hazards with my ball retriever. Thanks for the contribution kids.

    So a low swing speed player would need a higher spinning ball to compensate?

    • @scottmckeon5542
      @scottmckeon5542 2 роки тому

      -Hard balls go further.
      -Soft balls feel nicer on the club.
      -$10 golf balls are better than $5 golf balls.
      Golf ball fitting is ridiculous. To say only one ball works is crazy. This video is only looking at spin and pretending thats the be all and end all.

    THE MOMENT I READ THE TITLE I 100% KNEW IT WOULD BE A TITLEIST ADVERTISMENT!
    This channel is just repeating yourselves and shilling for Acushnet.
    At least other channels mention their sponsors proudly and not try to pretend they aren't receiving cash kick backs.
    Edit to add some constructive criticism...
    Some fine print on this video should state:
    *There are 1000's of golf balls available all with different compositions and advantages....But we only test 4 from the same company and had to push their premium offerings.
    *Stats stated are if you consistently hit the centre of the face with a repeatable swing in optimal conditions
    * Most stats stated will not affect your game or be noticeable (2 yard margin for error with a Pro V1 over a Velocity..... Sign me up for double the price, that'll turn a saturday competition into an easy payday!)

    • @ben1ben2ben1
      @ben1ben2ben1 2 роки тому +2

      This is only true for high and mid to high handicappers. Holding a green with a Velocity vs a Pro V1 is night and day

    • @scottmckeon5542
      @scottmckeon5542 2 роки тому

      @@ben1ben2ben1 i understand that. But i highly doubt a low handicapper needs to be told what ball is suitable for them at this point.
      The fact is this channel reaches at mid-high handicappers mostly, as that is the vast audience, but they always use tour or low-HCP stats and standards that most will never come close to or make use of. Makes most of their videos redundant.
      Also, spin still isnt everything. Yes, greenside its a massive boost.
      But what about those who need more mileage from long irons, wouldnt soft/low compression be more fitting to their needs? No word on that here.
      Once again, put the videos in context. Give a fair and wide assessment of different types and reasons for them. Not simply "Buy these because the spin numbers on our Trackman says so!"
      Plus, only showing one brand means you havnt compared anything, which is why ball fittings are dumb.
      The company will always fit you for their highest offering. All brands do it, put your stats into Bridgestone youll get fitted for 330's, not E series. Srixon, youll be told to try Z/Q Stars, not soft feels.
      Ever seen someone go for a Taylormade fitting and walk out with RBZ Blacks instead of M/SIM? Callaway ever told someone to stick to their Strata range and ignore the Epics? Pure advertisement here.

      @@scottmckeon5542 Low handicap golfers would benefit the most because they are looking for any way to shave a stroke or two off their game. The guy in this video seems pretty good, so obviously the tour balls are going to be what he is fitted for.
      Have you ever done a ball fitting? How do you know they only push the most expensive ball? If its anything like a club fitting that wouldn't be the case at all

    • @scottmckeon5542
      @scottmckeon5542 2 роки тому

      @@ben1ben2ben1 iv done the online fittings they all recommend, all say their highest offerings. There are videos on here showing even with variance of up to 20mph SS, they still offer one of their two highest options.
      Im not saying certain balls wont fit a certain swing/player. Thats true for all equipment.
      If you get a fitting by a local pro at the course, testing multiple brands/models, in real conditions, it's great.
      Going to Titleist/TM/Cally specific fittings, on a mat, into a screen (which this is advertising), is a waste of time as you are paying to let a salesperson make a pitch based on simulated conditions, and only offering what models they directly profit from.
      Making a Titleist advertisment and disguising it as a ball fitting is a joke.
      Also, as I said, they are only presenting low figures by golf professionals.
      If they had a chopper or even mentioned the soft/distance/high-HCP offerings that's fine. But this video is just a push for $10 golf balls.
