The surreal humour obviously pre-dates Python (it debuted in 1969), the surreal aspect would have been heavily influenced by the BBC radio series The Goons, which was the 1950's (and to the fab four's youth) equivalent of Python.

As mentioned, it's a great Bond spoof
Useless fact: the twelve string guitar used in the film was just found after decades.
The framus used on You've got to hide your love away.

Director Dick Lester definitely had a flare for wacky humor.

2:10 You totally overlooked 1967’s Magical Mystery Tour, which was the Beatles’ third film.

Good point, since it aired on television we didn't count it.

@@MirrorMovieUniverse I'm 68. I later saw a great 35mm copy of it in the theater in the late 1970's. The Fool on the Hill segment looked magnificent in clear focus and on a large screen. There were so many things the Beatles did wrong with that film out of inexperience [esp Paul], VERY bad editing, indecisive, over and over between Paul and John, and they could have put in the Hello Goodbye promo film as part of the movie in place of some useless extraneous junk which would have improved the film... I found the stripper in the night club scene a very stupid decision to include as the Beatles had a reputation for family friendly material in general. Brian Epstein would have put the stops on that or resigned. The best things were music and the videos with them, The nightmare of the Spaghetti shoveling scene. Filmed in color and shown in the A in black and white during the Christmas Holidays [boxing day]? Almost everything but the music performances went wrong.

This is the problem with people pontificating about films they don't understand. I CANNOT believe neither of them mentioned the name "James Bond" in this deconstruction. This film is a parody! From the dramatic music, to the cartoon villains, to the jump cuts around he globe, this is directly spoofing the 007 films that were hugely popular at the time, not just "people being crazy." The Bond films celebrated British imperialism, British technology, British supremacy, and ALL of this was skewered beautifully by Richard Lester. And I continue to bang my head against the wall over people whining about "this is racist!" Newsflash: EVERYTHING was racist back then. If you don't like films about pop-culture phenomena, just don't watch anything made before, say, 1970. Life is uncomfortable and unfortunate and context matters. Please grow up a little instead of displaying performative scorn.

Well, you're right we definitely missed the James Bond parody aspect of the film. Nate genuinely loves this movie, and instead of ignoring racism we decided to talk about it. Thanks for watching.

It was my intro to them. They were stoned off theirs asses the entire time. The Bahamas was used only for tax evasion. There are 5 Beatle Movies. AHDN, Help, MMT, Sub, and Get Back/Let It Be.

The Beatles were under contract for 3 theatrical films. Hard Days Night, HELP!, and Let It Be. Yellow Submarine didn't fulfill their contract as they weren't actually in it (not even their voices) and the other mentioned aren't theatrical releases.

I know the "fix it" title implies that we think the movies we talk about are broken, but it's really just a framing device to talk about movies we love. Nate genuinely loves this one so much.
