- The 3rd LEGO Star Wars Lightsaber is here with the 40730 Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber (Return of the Jedi)! This set is awesome but it does break the established scale from Yoda (2020) & Luke's (2021) Lightsaber sets. I also share my opinions on why LEGO Star Wars doesn't just sell you a set like this for $20 and how to make these LEGO Lightsaber promos better going forward!

For the UCS razor crest they could have included the dark saber hilt as a promo, and in the UCS venator they could have put mace windu’s lightsaber as a promo

@@peterpop-offwhile I agree that the hilt itself is pretty boring, 100 grey pieces is a terrible argument. It’s a lightsaber. An already designed prop. Do you want it rainbow? Monochrome? It’s gonna be the color it is in the movie.
Honestly, offering light sabers as a dedicated line would make SO MUCH SENSE. It would be an awesome collection to have.

News just in: Life sized lightsabers to replace midi-scale sets in 2026.
You also have to take that "available within the first week of the set launch" with a massive grain of salt. All you have to do is go look at the Barad-dur reviews to see a ton of people who bought it day one didn't get their gwp because Lego ran out.
It'll be Asad miss being I won't be able to buy at the release time n I'm sure will sell out. Thanks for the hard work.

The biggest problem is that they keeping calling the older one Luke’s lightsaber when it’s actually Anakin’s
Luke was the first person on screen to use it. It was his to have at the time. It belongs to him just as much as Anakin. There’s much bigger problems with LEGO and Star Wars. Get over it.
When something changes ownership it is no longer the previous owners. Anakin's lightsaber became Luke's when it was given to him.
The bias on the promos is pretty remarkable. A patch versus a lightsaber. Come on Lego, surprise us with a Dexter’s diner with Jango UCS.

Star Wars already has more sets and promos per year than almost any other theme. Heaven forbid an expensive set come out without an exclusive GWP!!!
You know, seeing you hold both Luke’s and Anakin’s lightsabers in your hands, the Anakin actually looks really small and the Luke ROTJ hilt looks way more accurate to the size of the actual prop.
Amazing how they make good promos for every UCS set except for the prequel ones

So is it worth buying an insultingly overpriced Lego set that purposely omits key characters and elements from the scene so that you’re forced to buy a separate DLC set yet still be stuck with a Bib Fortuna with the embarrassingly incorrect head mold from the wrong piece of star wars media just for this saber?😂
I agree with your scaling comment, however if anything the ANH/ESB hilt is too small in its scale. Especially when looking at reference photos like you did

Lightsabers only come with original trilogy UCS sets because they are an elegant weapon for a more civilised age.
This the critical and honest review the Lego community needs. I'd wager that it's not just 'saber selling' rights being given to a specific licensed company but also that dynamic spilling over into Lego's proverbial 'not selling weapons' loophole logic.
I think the ep 3,4,5,7,8 skywalker lightsaber is the coolest in star wars, but this is probably my second favorite

It’s a nice static display lightsaber hilt. But certainly not enough of an incentive to get that absurdly priced 500€ barge. 😝
Given how floppy it is at such a limited length I don’t think trying to build a blade would be a wise move. 😅
Drum-lacquered silver parts would have been a better approximation for the prop’s brushed aluminum finish IMHO. But we wouldn’t want to bankrupt a small, modest family business like Lego with such a ruinous move, now, would we? 😝
On the matter of scale, Luke’s lightsaber hilt is in fact longer than Anakin’s, but not *that* much longer.
On a side note, I liked getting Yoda’s hilt with the Cantina. It just would have been better paired with the AOTC Yoda statue. Maybe it’s a budget requirement and GWP can only happen at a certain price point ?

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t it have made more sense if they had released Luke’s blue lightsaber (Anakin’s) with the Mos Eisley Cantina a few years ago? Going with the whole A New Hope theme. Then for the AT-AT, do Yoda’s lightsaber, since it coincides with Empire Strikes Back. I think them including Luke’s green lightsaber with the Sail Barge is a great pick though. It ties all three of those sets and their respective GWPs together very nicely. Only gripe is like what you said: for the prequel sets, like the UCS Venator, why not give us something like Obi Wan’s lightsaber or Count Dooku? Would be really cool to see.
Edit: Well, I can see how the blue lightsaber ties well with the AT-AT, since it’s even more prominently used in the movie, both when Luke cuts into the belly of the AT-AT, and obviously when he fights Vader at the end of the movie. I guess I was just thinkin Yoda’s lightsaber for the AT-AT set, because that’s the first movie we are introduced to him. And then Luke’s blue lightsaber for the Cantina because that’s its first appearance in that movie, and ultimately what kind of prompted him down his path/journey starting in A New Hope.

Dude, aside from the printed plaque piece, the saber (like the saber GWPs before it) is made up of 10-12 dollars worth of easily available parts! I built my own version of this based on the photos that were released a week or so ago of this set! 🤷
would be nice if the whole middle was hollow and provided a light brick to have the kyber crystal light up the "blade"

I don't care about Anakin's Lightsaber From Revenge of the Sith not being named Luke's Lightsaber From The Empire Strikes Back, because they already messed up by not naming it Rey's Lightsaber From The Rise of Skywalker. /s
The previous Luke's lightsaber looks a little too short. The new Luke's lightsaber (ROTJ) looks a little bit too long.

Personally, I think we should be able to purchase them as separate sets for a fair price.
I know this is a crazy concept, but I refuse to fork up an exponential amount of money on a larger set or buy it on the secondary market (getting ripped off) to acquire this. 🤷♂️
I really like these lightsaber sets. I missed the Luke one with the AT-AT and that was my favorite. If I got this return of the jedi one, then I'd want to go back and get the other one too. That would cost me over $650. Yeah I think I'm just gonna have to miss out on this one as well. Sucks, I definitely would have liked to have one
Surely the *great* minds at disney can think of an alternative that wouldn't thematically clash with the sail barge. And not be a 3rd version of an existing set, in grey.

I say put them at either a $200-250 threshold or a $160 to match with May 4th, and then have sets go on sale as well or double VIP Points like May 4th

Lego should have been making life-sized lightsaber hilts for years now. It would be better than the small helmets imo.

This is definitely the best one so far and I love the detail on it but there’s no way I’m spending 500 dollars for almost 4000 pieces and an extra 80 for the desert skiff and sarlac pit
