I was borne in Hong Kong, moved at 6 months to Memphis and Atlanta until I was 4, then moved to England until I was 10 then moved to Australia and been here ever since. Australia is HANDS down the BEST country I lived in (and I lived in the south during the early 80's when kids actually had fun).
During World War Two, when a huge proportion of the Australian workforce was in the army and labour was scarce, Commonwealth forces took about 250,000 Italians prisoner in East Africa. A bunch of them were shipped to POW camps in Australia, where, owing to labour shortages, a lot of them were let out to do non-war work. In 1945 they were all repatriated to Italy, where most of them saved up a fare as fast as they could and came back. Not really having liked tea very much, they brought espresso machines with them, and quite a lot opened cafés. It took a while to catch on, but since about 1980 Australia has had a coffee culture based on Italian-style coffee, and since 2000-odd Australia has been second only to Italy in the quality of the coffee in the general run of neighbourhood coffee shops.
I’m an Aussie from Melbourne and yes we love our coffee. Coffee dictates which cafe we go to. The food is important too, but coffee and knowing your barista is important. It doesn’t matter where you go in Melbourne and in fact all of Victoria you’ll find great coffee. Usually if it’s a busy cafe, it has excellent coffee. Some people wait 15 - 20 minutes for a coffee.
I came to Australia with my parents as a four year old in 1960. South coast of New South Wales. Australia is the only country I know but I did live and work in SE Asia for eight years. My parents became Aussies quite quickly and fitted in well with the culture. I don't know any different. My father always said the best thing he did was move the family to Australia. I wouldn't live anywhere else.
We Aussies need to learn to really appreciate what we have. I have to say, I have never met an American who moved here short term who ever went "home", and I have known a number. Once you are here that tends to be it. To the point where even some who went back temporarily always made sure to be here for their kids to be born Aussies (with Australian partners). I think even Aussies need to leave or at least travel to fully understand we are still the "lucky country". Also I am first generation Australian, my parents came with their parents as young adults. They never felt the need to call any other place home.
A dim sim is a Chinese-inspired meat and vegetable dumpling-style snack food, popular in Australia and to a lesser extent in New Zealand. Melbourne was the world most liveable city 7 years in a row. From 2011 - 2017 in 2018 we lost that place to Vienna Austria 🇦🇹 We definitely do just go with the flow here in Australia very laid back bunch. Relaxing lifestyle and most people just don’t give a fuck
However covid has stuffed up our country for abit but I still love it. I don't drink coffee I hate it but apparently we have the best coffee. The average wage is NOT 90k, subtract about 40 to 50k then that's the average. The house prices to buy or rent have gone up way too much in the past 3 yrs!
Migration Agents help with the processing of the paperwork for a visa. Just make sure to choose one that is registered with MARA (Migration Agents Registration Authority). If you go to the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA), they have a database of registered agents. You can search according to where you are (yes, there are some MARA agents located overseas), if you need one who speaks a specific language etc. The MIA is the peak body for Registered Migration Agents. They lobby the government on legislation relating yo migration, as well as disseminating the information to members & running professional development for agents.
@@jessovenden Everyone who has migrated both here and to other places tells me an agent makes it so much easier especially when it comes to getting a resident's visa because they know all the ins and outs.
@7:20 FYI Brisbane is the capital city in the State of Qld. I've been watching the Johnston's journey for several months. He also did a reaction video & took the piss out of the "10 Reasons NOT to Move to Aus".
Its crap about the average annual income its more like $50,000-$70,000 unless you are an executive in a large company. Although it may be slightly higher in Queensland and Northern Territory as their wages are a bit higher to the rest of the country.
Yes I thought that was a bit odd too, but it isn't to do with executives or large companies: the Australian Bureau of Statistics figure for 2021 is about $68,000 if you include part-time workers. For those on a full-time 38-hour week, the average figure really is above $90,000.
It doesnt really equate to reality in S.A. I know plenty of people who hold manager positions that dont earn that much, my brother runs a big warehouse that is the top supplier for video games and merchandise in Australia he isnt even on $90,000

My work has taken me all over this country and by far the best place to be is up north , The major cities are crowded and dirty full of inconsiderate arrogant people that couldn't care less about the person beside them . If you want to meet good friendly people that would give you the clothes off their back to help you travel through the small coastal and country towns , The scenery is fantastic and the people are too much better quality of life and cleaner . And our average wage is about $23/hour much less than 90k/year that Brit stated .👌
I live in Perth, and there are loads of English, South African, Kiwis, and Irish here. I'm pretty sure the Irish are doing a silent take over 🤔 approx 30% of the Australian population was born overseas.
Haha. Another person that we Aussies have turned into a coffee snob. I live in a coastal suburb of Adelaide, the most liveable city in Australia, and the third most liveable in the world. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
Mate, I’m really surprised that a Pom had so many good things about Oz. We must be doning something right here in Oz, in order to stop a Pom from whinging……. Great to hear he enjoys living in this “wide brown land”. Grüße aus Melbourne
And, you're using too much of the front of you mouth for the accent ( As the typical American accent is very frontal). A typical Aussie accent speaks from that back of the throat and uses the nasal cavity( Almost speaking though your nose). E.g when we say oh yeah going in to a higher pitch, its in the back of the throat near the nose.
I think one of the main factors that affect quality of life is population density; the lower, the better. If so, does Australia really want to become the UK's overflow destination again?!
I'm in Brisbane. The place is very livable. As to the coffee: we are very fortunate in Australia in that our coffee culture is an inheritance from the Italian and Greek migrants in the 1950s and '60s. BTW, we are VERY proud that Starbucks essentially failed here.
There used to be a joke about the poms migrating to Australia....What's that whining noise coming from that plane that just landed?.....answer was 'whinging Poms' .
Do your research on Australia and lifestyle My parents were migrated to Australia 🇦🇺 which I was born in Australia 🇦🇺 You boys 👦 will love this country
What the Pommy bloke never mentioned was - our far better Work/Life balance. Just about every single one of us that works full-time - get a minimum of 4 weeks paid vacation PLUS 17% 'Leave Loading' extra pay on top of our regular wages for those 4 weeks. Depends on your particular Award/Employment Contract, but for nearly everyone it's 4weeks. Some lucky buggers can get 6 to 8 - again it's industry/job dependant. We also have Paid Sick Leave, again industry dependant by usually around 9 days per year - and for some of us, like me, it accumulates ... I have about 9 weeks of Sick Leave up my sleeve). Many industries, particularly Government jobs, will have 'flexi-days' ie one extra paid day off per month. We also have Long Service Leave, which is around 3 months PAID LEAVE once you have worked at your employed for 12 years, but its "Pro-Rata' from 7 years onwards (so you can take smaller chunks of Leave earlier). And yes - that is EXTRA LEAVE on top of Annual Leave. Women are also entitled to Maternity Leave (and again - depending on your industry/contract you can be eligible for quite a number of weeks at full pay after the childbirth, plus up to 18 months unpaid) and their jobs held for their return up to 18 months or so later. Men can now get 2 weeks (I think it is from memory) Paid Paternity Leave so they can spend those precious few early weeks at home with the new child. And then on top of that, there are about 16 odd Paid Publicly Holidays (the number varies according to which state you are in but we are all roughly the same). So we get all this extra free time to enjoy all those beaches, National Parks, Fishing, watching Footy, BBQing and Beers with mates etc or, if my missus had her way - me mowing, painting and cleaning shit up around the place ...
Miles mate.. doing these great videos with Phezz... have you noticed your accent is becoming Australian.... listen to the first part of this intro .... Guys, we're waiting for both of you to come over here soon .... ;-)
No, I don't think this whole video was a plug... I think of course he has gotten some sponsorship for his channel... but the fact is moving to another country is FRAUGHT with paperwork, figuring out logistics etc. etc. and you certainly could use a company who is an expert in that. Yes, our country is brilliant.... yes, we have issues as well, just like every other country... but honestly, after seeing all the stuff I have seen from other countries over the last 4-5 years.... I wouldn't want to be living anywhere else. Another yes, is we have brilliant coffee :)..... even McDonalds had to acknowledge that and that is how the McCafe started, in Australia.... we DEMANDED good coffee, and muffins etc lol....... Australians talk LOUD when they are not happy with something lol
This hasn't aged well! There is no houses in Australia! We have a massive housing shortage and rental prices have sky rocketed! The last rental i went to look at it was a crappy 2 bedroom unit for $350 a week there were 150 people applying for it!
Your Aussie accents are coming along nicely guys, but you need some work on how you say "Australia" - the first syllable just isn't pronounced - it's either just dropped (Straya) or pronounced "uh" (Uh-straya) - actually, you'd probably be better to say "Strya" to rhyme pretty much with "hiya!"
I think you would enjoy thebamfamalam on UA-cam - they moved London to Queensland and have ended up on 20 acres near the beach. MANY videos about life in the "Sunshine" (Flood? ) State.

As an Aussie I have seen some of these videos. I have a few points to make: 1. Most people immigrate to either Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. These cities are experiencing stress with rising home prices and expanding urban and suburban areas. Even coastal areas away from the major cities but close to inter-urban transport have skyrocketing prices. 2. The ethnic makeup is evolving. It is not a bad thing as it is expanding our culture in food and our lives generally, many people still remember when things like the Monty Python Bruce's skit was a literal documentary. The old Australia is still there and the racism and sexism is often exploited by politicians for votes. 3. People don't realise how much introduced animals have damaged the environment. From rabbit plagues, mouse plagues, foxes, horses, cane toads, wild feral cats and dogs have decimated wildlife and destroyed the land. Where I live in western Sydney you will see wild birds aplenty, but you are more likely see a fox than a possum or koala. 4. Australia is still great for things like heath care, education and public services, but we are in a transition period where privatisation is proving probmatic but state ownership of services is not popular due to citizens being trained to expect lower taxes. Australia Australia Australia we love you AMEN! *Crack tube*
Sorry Italy is number 1 for coffee & Australia is number 2. That's from an Australian. We have a different health system so we have a higher standard of living. A lot of Australian's find the US expensive.
07:14 LOL, I actually know exactly where that house is. It's in the area he chose as that was Redcliffe Pier at the start which is 20 minutes away from Bald Hills (which is on the northern outskirts of Brisbane).
Don’t worry Phezz and miles? About not able to afford the trip to Australia? Just keep up the scene at your local country club and keep buying those raffle tickets for free vacations to the east coast of Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
I think that was an ad .. nice though. I’ve lived in a few different places and I came home to Australia. I feel very privileged to be Australian. I spent a year in the USA once and sorry guys but I was not exactly impressed. I wasn’t a rich tourist, I really lived there and while the people were lovely but the poverty, the guns, the lack of free basic healthcare.. So glad I somehow ended up back here in Australia
Just about the money situation he mentioned. This guys from Brisbane, so am I. Brisbane is a big city but its definitely one of the cheaper places to live. For example Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra are pretty expensive places to live from what I know
Our cost of living may be higher but so are our wages BUT compared to the US our healthcare is free & our medications are subsided by the government so really cheap 👍👍👍
Guys. Come to Australia . Yeah , theres sh@# that will kill you. On a weekly basis i have to deal with redback spiders near my hands and feet while im sitting outside. Suck it up princess. Great videos. Love on ya , Adelaide.
I want Phezz’s name changed to Motor Mouth. The last two video’s he has talked through them without pausing and you don’t know what is being said on the video. Why if the Brit is so happy here does he need to find other Brit’s? Or does he fit in our category of wringing Poms. He is wrong about the cost of living in Melbourne. Sydney will always hold the highest prices and Brisbane is crap. My Mother’s parents were from Britain and so was my husband. My husband was 10 when he got here and he learned to lose that accent fast to stop him being beaten up at school. His parents must have lived in a nasty area because all were welcome where I grew up. You never know, I may have wanted to hit him back then too but the difference is I wouldn’t have. The older he gets the more he sounds like his Mother but he stops fast when I point it out. She was evil and a lot insane. If you call trying to poison me 3 times insane. I think England meant to put her on a convict ship.
This bloke for once knows what he's talking about I have watched his channel religiously since they came to gods country Australia , he tells it as he and his wife find it without all the usual bullshit about how everything that breathes here is trying to kill you , and I'm sorry but it has to be said that most of the commentators who put out this crap are Americans who come here for their annual pisspoor 10 day holidays and as with all American tourists go home experts on the country . The Johnson family took a leap of faith did their research and committed and I don't think they've regretted their decision . My mum and dad brought me as a 6 yr old to Australia in 1950 from England because the was no chance of owning their own home and everything was still rationed 5yrs after the war .In Australia there was no unemployment the workers enjoyed a 40hr week with 4weeks annual holidays universal health care and no rationing of anything . We all think our respective country's are the best but I believe my country Australia is way out in front of which ever country's in second place and I thank God every day that my folks brought me here all those years ago .
Don’t move here we are going thru a wage and housing crisis you pay more for rent than a mortgage and most people can’t afford both bc the wage/salary isn’t enough to keep us afloat plus everything from bread to alcohol being taxed like a hell
The cost of living is high. But we have fantastic welfare services, universal healthcare, free education access, etc. so you are less likely to experience poverty or dire financial hardship from uncontrollable circumstances in Aus 👍

Just do it guys! This country is awesome.
Nothing worse than a whinging pom dissing Australia
your still young mate make the move .and then you will find out that Australia is actually the best country in the world not the USA 🙂🙃😉
I grew up in Sydney, lived for 6 years in Nth QLD then visited Tassie 16 years ago and never left ;)
A dim sim is a Chinese-inspired meat and vegetable dumpling-style snack food, popular in Australia and to a lesser extent in New Zealand. It was originally offered to miners in the goldfields of Australia in the 1800s and used mutton as its primary meat. Wikipedia

Melbourne was the world most liveable city 7 years in a row. From 2011 - 2017 in 2018 we lost that place to Vienna Austria 🇦🇹
We definitely do just go with the flow here in Australia very laid back bunch. Relaxing lifestyle and most people just don’t give a fuck
I am also a subscriber to that Johnson's life and he and his wife are really good genuine and authentic people, definitely worth watching their videos
Australia Rocks. You should all move here really
I was born in Aus and lived here my whole life, it is truly the best country in the world, move over here you'll love it
Miles your Aussie accent attempt is pretty good. I'm an Aussie I live in Melbourne Australia
This is completely crucial advice ⬆️
@@jessovenden Everyone who has migrated both here and to other places tells me an agent makes it so much easier especially when it comes to getting a resident's visa because they know all the ins and outs.
@7:20 FYI Brisbane is the capital city in the State of Qld.
I've been watching the Johnston's journey for several months.
He also did a reaction video & took the piss out of the "10 Reasons NOT to Move to Aus".
Australia is sadly becoming overpopulated :(
most of aussie population lives on or next to coastline. Our cities are becoming overpopulated, its a fact.
G'day boys theirs 25 million reasons to visit Australia, "it's people".
I know plenty of people who hold manager positions that dont earn that much, my brother runs a big warehouse that is the top supplier for video games and merchandise in Australia he isnt even on $90,000
@@samanthaharrison4921 Yep that makes sense. I have a sister in Adelaide, go there a lot and keep a keen interest because I love the place. After all the factory closures a few years ago I know things were grim. I hope you are catching up, because your house prices have gone nuts and if salaries haven't been keeping up it would be bloody difficult to start on the housing ladder.
Obviously the average wage is affected a lot by the higher wages 😂. The median wage is around 52,000. I’d even be happy to get that 😜
@@steelcrown7130 its really bad here at present the entire housing market has gone nuts. A house sold accross the road from me recently in an average suburb for $430,000 and its not flash very basic and very small. Rents are astonomical too everything went up $50 a week last year and going up another $50 a week this year. Just ridiculous!
I actually traveled to the UK a few years ago from Sydney where I reside and didn’t fully realise just how much i took my beautiful country for granted 🇦🇺❤️ never would I holiday there again sorry but it’s just my opinion. 👍 TO MY BEAUTIFUL COUNTY ❤️
Brit loving it for 56 years
We are the coffee capital of the world (Melbourne) and we also have a minimum wage around $21 per hr with 9% of your wage put into a super fund (it should be 12% but thanks to the current government they froze that) but yes WE ARE NOT CALLED THE LUCKY COUNTRY for nothing
Come here to Australia for a holiday first,& see if you like it. btw ..i love the Brits they have a wonderful way with words & they can be very funny.
I LIVE IN HELL, ALSO KNOWN AS PERTH
Yep it's hot at the mo
God sorry you made me laugh, i know your pissed off right now due to lock down but let me tell you I'm still mostly at home cause terrified of catching covid as I'm immune copromised hope things get better for you soon
SA OZZ
@@brontepetropoulos4755 IT'S HELL BECAUSE WE HIT 42C AGAIN TODAY
WHAT IS A "LOCK DOWN"
THAT WORD IS UNFAMILIAR TO ME
Oh sorry Roger i didn't realise you meant hot i thought its because you can't get out of your state because of covid regulations but yes it is bloody hot over in your part hope you get relief soon
I'll swap you for Sydney's recent uncomfortably high humidity.
They moved to Brisbane and the house with pool is his home. I follow his UA-cams. Try Bam famalam they are also UK migrants.
I live on the NSW Central Coast. About an hour north of Sydney 👍🇦🇺
i used to live in copacabana!
Good one
Depends what city your talking about mate not all cities are crowded and dirty
I live in Perth, and there are loads of English, South African, Kiwis, and Irish here. I'm pretty sure the Irish are doing a silent take over 🤔 approx 30% of the Australian population was born overseas.
Haha. Another person that we Aussies have turned into a coffee snob.
I live in a coastal suburb of Adelaide, the most liveable city in Australia, and the third most liveable in the world. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
Everything he said about Australia is true & is that good. 👍😁👍 🇦🇺
Mate, I’m really surprised that a Pom had so many good things about Oz. We must be doning something right here in Oz, in order to stop a Pom from whinging……. Great to hear he enjoys living in this “wide brown land”. Grüße aus Melbourne
Peter! I was thinking the same as you!🤗🥰🥰🥰
I recently brought a small little house on the Sunshine coast of QLD, and my stress levels are low, my smiles are bigger and my value of life is high👍
Nice🥰
Accent wise: The 'A' or 'AY' pronounced in today is the same as G'day!
Who the fk earns 90k a year? Im an Aussie and from my experience 50-60k is about average 90k is well above average from my experience.
I think one of the main factors that affect quality of life is population density; the lower, the better. If so, does Australia really want to become the UK's overflow destination again?!
There is a reason we have perpetuated the myth that everything here wants to eat you 🤣
I'm in Brisbane.
Do your research on Australia and lifestyle
My parents were migrated to Australia 🇦🇺 which I was born in Australia 🇦🇺
You boys 👦 will love this country
You did that accent really well at the beginning. The first part anyway. ///////////
Came to Adelaide when I was 4, went for a holiday to England many years later, we definitely have it better here
I think you would enjoy thebamfamalam on UA-cam - they moved London to Queensland and have ended up on 20 acres near the beach. MANY videos about life in the "Sunshine" (Flood? ) State.
I came to Perth Australia in 1985 the best decision I have ever made, great lifestyle , great weather, great people beautiful beaches and very safe and clean cities I LOVE IT ! have look at Wild adventure mum a Vlog of a Scottish family living in Bali I never had children but i love this amazing Mum and her family
As an Aussie I have seen some of these videos. I have a few points to make:
I'm a Melbourne cat!
Don’t worry Phezz and miles? About not able to afford the trip to Australia? Just keep up the scene at your local country club and keep buying those raffle tickets for free vacations to the east coast of Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
You guys are pretty laid back so I think you’d fit in here in Oz pretty well. Love your videos and reactions.
Perfect. It's in our future plans!
@@TheCommodity u guys r great ! love your videos! I would have a holiday first in Australia !
Guys. Come to Australia
Its too hot here. Too expensive. Work life balance has gone to shite. Gotta work 80 hours to afford anything.
Ahem,,, Brisbane is in Queensland. Brisbane is the city, Queensland is the state.
But we have fantastic welfare services, universal healthcare, free education access, etc. so you are less likely to experience poverty or dire financial hardship from uncontrollable circumstances in Aus 👍
most of these types of posts are in brisbane for some reason. i've lived in QLD but at a higher altitude in toowoomba so the weather was similar to my home in perth. brisbane is a humid prick of a place, i dont think you get used to it so much as just dealing with it. worked in the NT for awhile which is much the same but the pub culture makes up for it.
"I'm not a coffee drinker." Mate, if you came to OZ you definitely would be.
I have been watching his family for a while. The info relating to moving here is strictly educational based on their experience if you want to move here. My mum is from the UK and it’s nice to get some insight why my grandparents immigrated so long ago although they were 10 pound tourists. Look that up 🤗
M8s when are you two coming to Straya?
Like the add says;
Where the bloody hell are ya?
yay Brisbane, my home city. So glad people are happy moving here, and enjoying it
