It is really nice and refreshing that someone else does the exact same thing I do as it relates to care for ones digital space and hardware. I don’t understand why anyone would keep phones, laptops, and tablets internally and externally messy. I get we are busy, but I get refreshed and relaxed when I keep myself digitally organized. I have ADHD and Autism, so I’m very, very, very particular about where things go, what it looks, and feels like for me so I can keep my anxiety low.
@fiskburgare Right!!!? Staying organized like this helps make all the difference especially on the down days. I used to get a lot of teasing from family members who thought I was too much for that kind of organizing. But this system described in the video really works.
Nicholas you changed my life so much to the point that i dont have social medias any more, and i deleated all the apps that i dont use to stay more focused on life and be more like a minimalism like you, keep doing what you are doing cuz ur doing a great job, have a good day.
Great video as usual, Nicholas!! Another thing I discovered was to put 'clean digital stuff' on the calendar on repeat ((I usually do weekly). It helps me remember and also motivates me to clean up my devices regularly.
For things like deleting contacts you don't need (as you mentioned), filing, photo sorting, deleting old texts, digital maintenance things, etc., I simply set a Google reminder (any reminder with repeating reminders would work) set to repeat at intervals. It shows up on my calendar and voila. Done, clear, updated. (I also add reminders for things like cleaning earbuds and keyboards. Yeeeeeesh, ew.)
I accidentally found nich while scrolling through UA-cam...And this guy is life changing. Thank you Nicholas for this wonderful channel of yours. You helped improve my overall life.
Hi Nicholas, I'd been meaning to tell you how genuinely habit-changing your videos have been for me! I was looking into minimalism and the Danish concept of hygge, and thought I'd never be able to accomplish something so daunting... especially given my affinity for stuff, stuff, and more stuff. But, your videos seemed so genuine and with such practical advice, that I've effectively cleaned out my closet and most of the things I don't need. I still live with my family, but I finally have a room in the house that is wholly under control; a peaceful place I can get work done and sleep well. Thank you so much for your room tour! I even have an ipad mini now... that I use everyday. You've inspired me. Keep up the amazing work! On to the finance tips now.
Thanks so much! Exactly, I think having your own space to keep how you like is sometimes enough. I’ve had to do the same for a while actually. CKSpace is a great channel you should also check out if you haven’t, I believe he lives with family and a some of his video are about sharing spaces with people who aren’t minimalist. If you’re interested!
king of digital & physical minimalism 👑🙌 I would love to know more about how you organize and manage your video editing & youtube workflow. like how do you name files and store thumbnails, decide what b-roll to keep, etc?
When it comes to backing up files, I'm a big fan of the principle of 2 is 1, 1 is none. I have an external HDD, a USB, and I use MEGA for cloud storage (this last one is only for files that don't contain confidential information, nor any semi-sensitive private information, with exception of my name)
Thank you once again the perfect video at the right time, after I get started witch decluttering my real life, i now slowly going over to the digital stuff, searching the mails with the keyword unsubscribe was a massive game change for me i could get rid of all the old newsletter very easily, without deleting my old e-mail account. How ist the write/read speed of the SanDisk SSD is it enough for editing ? thanks a lot mate and Keep up the good work 👍❤
I'm definitely guilty of duplicate pictures of my bunnies.... Just went through a good amount and I'm going right back to it after this comment. I also need to put my documents into organized folders instead of organizing them on my desktop.....
I am guilty of this. I don’t have a rabbit of my own, but when I used to be active on social media, I would screenshot photos of peoples’ cute bunnies on Instagram🙈
I've a bad habit of clicking too many pictures for just one scenario, how to avoid this..as my mobile always filled up with pictures of the same object/person and in reality only 1-2 are useful😭
Can I ask: is minimalism something that applies to reducing cognitive load as well as digital & physical stuff? I was interested to hear your methods for backup/passwords differ substantially from my own as I use a cloud based ‘set and forget’ backup system, and a dedicated password manager app that lives across all my devices. Have you considered either as a means to do away with the need to remember to backup and keep a copy of those passwords?
Never really cared to use cloud storage, and I probably wouldn’t trust a password app (my superstition speaking). But I just do it this way because it’s how it’s worked for me this long so far 😄
@@NicholasGarofola Aha, that makes sense. It’s about choosing the system you trust most. You see, I wouldn’t trust myself to remember to backup and/or where I’d put that paper file. 😂 So I delegated that remembering to cloud storage and a password manager. Great video by the way 🙌🏻
@@NicholasGarofola You could use a locally stored password manager like keepassxc, which is basically just a nice ui for a password protected file with your passwords
@@NicholasGarofola Keepassxc encrypts the database which stores your passwords making it more secure than storing it (in what i assume your'e doing) a plaintext file. It also doesnt access the Internet for anything other than the optional icon downloads.

Damn.. I should’ve sold you the 512 😏 lol Awesome video as always dude I’m definitely going to apply some of these methods since my computers starting to fill up haha
Great content as always! An interesting video (and one we'd personally love to see) is maybe your process for creating/editing/organizing each video project? We've been trying to streamline and keep our creative process as simple as possible.
Your minimalist phone Home Screen and laptop screen really reminds me of the methods in “Make Time” if you haven’t read it you should check it out 😊 it looks so satisfying but I don’t know if I could bring myself to do it I’m pretty set on my app layout now
Love everything about this video! Inspiring as ever. Do you also back up anything to the cloud? I will re-watch your file org video, maybe you talk about it there. Do you run various utilities to "clean" your devices, or just rely on manual deletions of files?
I clean all my phones several times a day with microfibre cloths, they say most phones have faecal matter on them! I don't like grease or fingerprints or anyone's faecal matter on my phones! I don't like seeing fingerprints on touchscreens in MacDonalds or on self service tills either.
You can use an cloud system we're you pay 1 time and not have a subscription. Would that get you to use the cloud. Because when your house burns down you lost all your files. Pcloud is an example of paying 1 time, and not have a subscription.
I hate junk and newsletters on my email address. If it’s not a site that I use often, I try to avoid making an account especially if it is a one time buy. I keep physical copies of important documents, and digital copies of stuff that won’t bother me if I lost them.
How do you manage to edit off the external SSD? I’ve tried that in the past but somehow always FCPX makes a library on my laptop and I end up with the internal SSD full, even when having all the files on the external drive
Well first I gotta ask. Has your little mannequin man got a name? Love having a clear Home Screen and desktop screen, makes things more productive in a way. I always feel better getting rid of cluttered files that I don’t need. Same with unsubscribing from emails. I’ve done the same with not unsubscribing for years! I was subscribed to a place called Bella Italia for ages before I unsubscribed about a month ago. About 4 years since I last went to the place. I need to get on deleting duplicates too. I have a few mp3s off of albums a couple of times on my iTunes. Yes I still use them, bad habit and I’m old 😂 Great video again my dude 🎉

Bautista bomb😁. I spent my day uploading 1200 photos off of 3 USB’s to iCloud. Once I’m not blind anymore, I’ll go in an organize them.
