So what we're getting here is that the song is actually just a medley and Descend is just the backbeat.

The reason I love this song, and it was such a fitting theme for the end of an act, was just the collision of leitmotifs that all flow together perfectly.

3:22 - Upward Movement - Irony, this whole sequence is the culmination of all the falling and crashing down, continues through the rest of the Descend animation. Jade falls out of her room irl, meteors fall to skaia, Dave (who's associated with this motif) is the only part of this sequence ASCending into his first gate (which will in turn Descend him somewhere on his planet's surface), The meteors and kids descend to Earth wrapped up by the one striking John's house
3:39 - Beatdown - Prospit's moon is giving Jade's dream self and dreambot a beatdown
3:49 - Sburban Jungle, continues through the end - John finally wakes up, skaian defense portals open up, previously noted meteor sburb mechanics, Dave and Rose interact with their first gates, fight and explore
3:53 - Beatdown - Zoom out to heavily damaged Battlefield
3:55 - Penumbral Phantasm - Specific audio accompaniment to the Skaian defense portals, and we see ruined prospit itself

My dream leitmotif song:
It begins with the intro for cascade and the beat for upward movement. After a while it cuts to atomyk ebonpyre with endless climb. It then moves to black, black cuts to dead shuffle, dead shuffle has the suburban jungle tune faintly in the background, it cuts to beat down, you get the cascade guitar in their, and then it finishes with a bang using killed by br8k spider.

+Maximus It's Cascade (Beta version), which is mostly original, then Flare, which is mostly original up until Cascade comes back near the end, then Savior of the Dreaming Dead, which is all Doctor and Penumbra Phantasm, then Black Hole/Green Sun, which is Black Rose/Green Sun with some added epic afaik.
Could have sworn I heard more than that, but maybe it's just me.
+Maximus cascade is an arrangement of descend with way more guitar,and the black part is just a guitar solo.also,the second part if cascade beta is the motif from flare (cascade cut)
cascade's not an arrangement of descend at all, it just has similar peaks etc. because it was designed to go with the flash
Actually, the motif from Flare (Cascade Cut) is referenced from Cascade Beta, not the other way around. And Savior of the Dreaming Dead is also (Cascade Cut) and has a different ending that references Cascade Beta again.

I'll admit that I never noticed Ruins, Waterfall and Spear of Justice all using the same melody at different speeds, but I could at least hear it after it was pointed out to me - I can't say the same for ex, Atomik Ebonpyre and Harlequin. Maybe I've just confused the terminology?
...Atomik Ebonpyre even uses the same _instruments_ here as the original, not just the exact same melody. Harlequin's melody there is the same as the first few seconds of Harlequin.
I must have a very different idea of what melody means because they sound so clearly different, even if they flow together well in this mix. I don't even recognize that Harlequin part at 1:30, it sounds nothing like what I get when I search youtube for "homestuck harlequin"
EDIT: Or wait, maybe what you were showing in this video was the leitmotifs the song Descend used? Because that's not the same as all these songs sharing the same leitmotif... I think.
