- This video shows the leitmotifs used in Descend by Toby Fox (from Homestuck Volume 5) as they appear in the track.
Since annotations got nuked, I've been meaning to try and make an updated version of Putnam's video (down below). I would make a timestamp list of every leitmotif, but if you've listened to this song a bunch, you'd know it isn't really possible unless you were to spend hours doing something pointless. Please let me know in the comments if there's a mistake! I am not perfect at this at all. Check captions for notes!
Putnam's video: • Musical References: Ho...
This personally shows that TobyFox is a god when it comes to working with Lemotifs
right? and this was really early in his career!
Toby fox changed my brain chemistry
most in-depth (and accurate) one i’ve seen yet personally, thanks dude!!
no problem!!! :D
ITS LIKE I CAN SEE THE SHEET MUSIC
sburban jungle and upward movement carried this song
real
And liquid negrocity to a lesser degree
Amazing, i watch it everyday
thank you so much!
Very great video, analyse indepth and very well thought but...
BALLAD OF JACK NOIR AT THE END ? I CANT UNHEAR IT !!!
I'm glad someone else was stunned by that realization
This is pure facts no bs
WAIT TOBY FOX MADE DESEND
toby fox made a lot of homestuck songs!!!
I KNOW I DIDNT EXPECT HIM TO MAKE THIS ON SPECIFICALLY
THIS IS MY FAVE RN
could you do this for some other homestuck songs I love this so much
most other homestuck songs don't have nearly this much jam-packed into them. descend is sort of special in that regard. however, i did do eternity served cold as a test for the program I later made this video in... maybe I'll dig it out.
@@1cbear745 YAY!!
@@1cbear745 I'm about halfway through, and I can say that what I've heard of the HS soundtrack so far has been very good, made by Toby or otherwise. Then again, he's composed like 2/3 of the OST at this point I'm at
whats the difference between doctor and penumbra phantasm? i always thought that was just penumbra phantasm in doctor
the difference is only a couple of notes. as for doctor taking from penumbra phantasm... I honestly don't know. I always thought they were two separate songs that miraculously sounded perfect together.
This is cool but at what point does it stop being a song and just becomes a collage of other songs
I mean, there is literally no point of this song that is without another songs leitmotif. It's using the collage to make something unique. despite exclusively being made up of other songs, descend has its own unique cadence, energy, and progression. so so so good
Being a collage does not diminish its artistic value! I imagine it takes significantly more effort to merge like ten different songs into something that not only sounds good but has a building narrative than it would have been to just make something original.
