Also I keep mentioning 'soy wax wraps,' but the wraps I'm using in this video are actually beeswax wraps. They're my partner's so I wanted to include them, and didn't realise! So if you're wondering why I have those, that's why! xx
This is a really informative video! My one issue with these is the reusable cotton "tea bag" ... I have owned a loose-leaf tea metal strainer for over a decade now and it literally does the same thing, and imo, stainless steel would last a lot longer and be more worth the money than a cotton bag that might degrade over time. Some of these items are really great, but others I feel are just a cashgrab to get zero waste peeps to buy into more than they need. Just a thought!
Plus I imagine the metal strainer would be easier to clean. I dread the thought of cleaning that cotton bag with all the tea bits stuck to it and using more water to do so!
Yeah I have a few different versions of stainless steel tea steepers and have found ones with small enough holes now that leave barely any tea residue in my cup. Plus as a bonus they're better for keeping high quality teas that are re-steepable for a day or two
I feel like some of these can be replaced with stuff you already have: cover bowls with just a regular plate, put vegetables in a container with water etc... Also I have made my own fruit bags from thrifted polyester curtains. I know - plastic - but lighter than cotton, see-through, and no new material needed.
PLEASE continue this series! I think these are super helpful as a relatively new zero-waster who's not sure what's worth using as a replacement and what's not.
I use most of those things and I particularly like the crisper bags for veggies. Since the kids moved out, I'm not using up veggies as fast and they REALLY keep them fresher longer
I love to read people’s stories and hear about their experiences. Here’s mine… on the topic of purchasing ZW items. I grew up in the 60’s & 70’s in a busy family that did not have much money and with parents who were raised in The Depression and The War. Needless to say, we repurposed and upcycled everything out of necessity and frugality… long before the term Zero Waste ever existed. When I first started my Low Waste journey many years ago I got caught up in the craze and I impulsively purchased two fancy glass bottles from an upscale trendy kitchen store. It wasn’t long before I remembered the Low Waste/No Extra Money kitchen that I grew up in. I also remembered all the bottles in my recycling bin in the basement. What was I thinking? That was the first and last of my impulsive aesthetic ZW shopping. I now deliberate over purchases and I seek the opinions, knowledge, and experiences of others (such as you two, Immy & Shelbi, and this video). Great video today Immy… I love my wax wraps!! Gittemary talks about that in one of her videos - one of the most low/zero waste things you can do is not buy a new thing, even if it's "low waste." Why go buy a fancy water bottle when you have one collecting dust in your cabinet? lol
I don’t get why stasher bags seem like a must have for a lot of people! I just use glass jars/tupperware that I accumulated over the years from packaged stuff I bought. Great for storing pretty much everything, wether in the fridge or pantry or on the go. So easy to clean and free! The only thing that makes sense to me is in the freezer, I guess it would save space, yes. I don’t know maybe im missing something:)
My best “zero waste” item find is my Stasher bag, which I bought from a yard sale for $0.25! It’s the quart size bag, and I found it in great condition. When I move out to my own home, I will definitely buy more Stasher bags!
The things I love the beeswax wraps for is leftover blocks of cheese! It keeps the cheese at the perfect moist/dry level. For those of you that aren't vegan.
I have found that the wax wraps work super well on vegan cheese and also blocks of smoked tofu. I agree with you, the wax wraps seem to hold the perfect amount of moisture. Ⓜ️ary
Yeah! Was looking forward to see you and Shelby back together in a video (plus a bit of Madison is always great!)! I personally love the stacher bags. Extremely expensive, especially in my country, compared to the wages, but one of the best purchases ever! For tea, I don't mind loose leafs, so I use e.g. a metal tea spoon. Just a small tip for the camomile specifically. If you have it loose, like the one you've showed, I was told by some Greeks, that the best way to prepare it, is to boil it for 2-3min, instead of pourring hot water on it. And indeed it tastes better in my opinion:) Cheers to all of you from Poland!:)

An alternative to that crisper bag would be to store greens in a container with a moist cloth. Basically the same idea as the crisper cloth but not a product you need to buy.
These reviews are so helpful! This review in particular is making me rethink how I'm using some of the more difficult to use items like the silicone bags. Having a dishwasher helps with the cleaning component but for the larger bags I find that more often then not when I wash them in there they just end up full of gross dishwashing water. But! They're still great for other storage purposes or if you're traveling with liquid bath products! And a tip for the bee/soy wax covers: Some can be hard to heat by hand. I like to (very gently and carefully) heat them by holding them 5+ inches over my stovetop. With just a little low heat, it makes them much more mailable.
If you use the half of the avocado without the pit then you can just put the empty skin back on the half with the pit and tie a rubber band or put it in a container that would hold them together and it works amazing! Can last up to a week like that in the fridge. Also, if you keep the pit in the guacamole, it will prevent it from browning for a few days :)
I love the crisper bags! I eat kale every day and during the lockdown with limited grocery shopping, kale lasted two weeks in those bags with no problem. In fact, the bags can even bring wilted greens back to life. I also love stasher bags, especially for freezing food. They are so much better than plastic for preventing freezer problems like ice crystal buildup. I don’t find them hard to wash, but they are hard to dry. I usually put them upside down on a bottle to dry. Great video!
I use beeswax warps to wrap up sandwiches or biscuits or things like that when I make my lunches for work, instead of using clingfilm. I mainly use silicone bags and Tupperware when sorting things in the fridge.

I do have silicone zip bags, and I'm so happy with the product. I store so many different goods in those bags, freeze and use it wherever I go. And also Meowoo beeswax food wraps, fantastic, fantastic loooove those to beets. 🙌👏👏👏👌
This high school teacher can 💯 recommend these Low Waste swaps for the classroom, student life, artist life, and/or any kids events, educational activities, etc: 1) Refillable White Board Markers - Amazing!! I haven’t used a disposable one in years. 2) Pencil crayons instead of highlighters - they’re cheaper & compostable 3) Peanut butter jars (clear ones) for tool kits (I teach sewing) or art supplies etc. 4) Plastic milk jugs (bottom half) or clear tomato tubs make excellent thread catchers or mini-garbage bins at student activity stations. 5) Custodians - they give me all the pens, pencils, erasers, etc that they sweep up everyday. These are just some of the low waste swaps that really work, and some of them are free. I will say that the Refillable White Board Markers are expensive, but I have a set of 6 different colours and they have lasted for years (decades!!). There is so much waste in the school system that we can cut down on with just a l’il bit of effort. Thanks, Immy, for allowing me to share my suggestions here in your space. 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary☃️. I have tried 5 time to post the link for you, and for whatever reasons, my comment will not take. So I will tell you that the brand name is AusPen and perhaps you can search for them online. I received my set of six refillable dry erase markers well over a year ago as part of a trial/pilot project in my school district to test these white board markers in the classroom. As a Dutch girl we have a big block of Gouda cheese in the fridge. I wrap my cheese in the beeswax wrap and is stays fresh longer than in the paper or plastic they sell it in. Also parmesan cheese stays soft for longer.
I've already decided that for Christmas next year I'm getting each of my non eco family members a stand up Stasher bag and a container of bulk purchased popcorn kernels. You never know what thing will spark an interest in a lower waste lifestyle, and even if it doesn't spark an interest I think it'll make a great gift.

Love stasher bags worth every penny. The beeswax wraps are great for when you have a nice loaf of bread or baked goods, don’t want to use plastic and don’t have an alternative. Found it keeps my bread really fresh. Never tried the reusable tea bag. Thanks 🙏🏻💜
That teabag looks interesting. Overall I am a big fan of using a french press for tea, and not just for the zero waste aspect of it. I have a big one that I use for most of my tea, but I am still looking for a good solution for single cups. I currently use a small teapot with a strainer, but as you mentioned sometimes small bits of tea slip through and with black tea that can cause the tea to turn really bitter. I think I am going to look into what it takes to diy those tea bags in a food save way. Plain undyed cotton can withstand boiling water so it shouldn't be too difficult.
I was also a bit hesitant about the crisper bag, but am a big fan! I have the same brand you just bought and use the large bag for ~3 heads of kale and lettuce. I usually will use the greens in a week, but even up to 1.5 weeks, the greens are still going strong. I do store it in the crisper drawer too. I've tried using other cotton bags and it does not give the same life or keep the greens crisp. I think the foldover shape helps lock in the moisture too. I wash it with my other kitchen towels and hang dry. I hope it's successful for you too!
I agree about the Stasher bags; they're really good, especially the stand-up ones. I think they're pretty easy to clean--fill with warm water and a little soap--close the bag, shake vigorously, and rinse! Easy peasy. They are life changing.
I just want to say to Shelbi that I love stasher bags, too. However, I do agree with Gittemary that they are a pain to hand wash. Unfortunately, not everyone has a dishwasher, including me and Gittemary. ;) ♥ I only have the sandwich size Stasher bags because I was able to get them half-price at my local grocery store. They don't carry the larger ones, which I would really like for my frozen food. They are also ridiculously expensive. But they are great, in their way. :D

I have off brand stasher bags and also no dishwasher. I only use mine for dried goods or sometimes fruit and weg but would never keep anything like soup in them. Mine have also become slightly distorted over the year I have owned them, and one of them is very difficult to close up properly now.
Nice, thank you for sharing! I have used cotton tea bags for a while now, I even have some that are for different colour teas because they will stain the cloth. So i have a pink hibiscus stained one , a green one and one that is more for herbal teas.
I also love the Stasher bags! And I use bowl covers (with the elastic rim) like Shelbi does--they are so easy to use, wash, and reuse. We have been using them for years.
I am still using up saran wrap from 3 years ago - I very rarely need to cover up stuff with that. Then I still use the same old tupperware and old jars and so on. I use a damp towel instead of the bag, and I place plates on top of bowls - works for me. My lesson here was not to buy anything new, because there probably is something I can use instead, that I already own.
I tried to convert my parents into using silicone bags instead of ziploc bags and they hate them. 😭 They find them hard to wash and hard to open. (Something to consider for people with weaker hands.) luckily they have a lot of glass jars around the house so they’ve been using those to store halves of onions, avocados, etc. It sounds ridiculous to some of us that silicone bags are “inconvenient” and “hard to wash” but convenience is a huge thing when asking people to change their lifestyle.
Oooohhhh I totally feel your parents' frustration. The stasher bags are easy to clean for me in the dishwasher, but they are hard to open! I'm sure if I had any hand issues it would be a deal breaker.
For my parents, I recommended using the dishwasher for the harder stuff, but also not putting super messy/oily things in the bags. We've been reusing bags for years to save money, so washing them was not a jump.
For your reusable tea bag, a tip I saw on James Hoffman's channel is to wash them out then put them in the freezer, instead of drying. It's supposed to prevent a mildew taste accumulating on the fabric. I've done this for a few months with my coffee filter and seems to do the trick!
I have metal tea eggs (?) that function like strainers but have finer holes, but I also have cloth bag (?). The cloth bag decolorises super fast but gets the job done admiringly. Washing it out is pretty easy, you just turn it inside out and wash the residue off.
Thank you for your thoughts on the cotton reusable tea bags. I bought a little metal strainer to try and encourage my husband to make his tea plastic free and it did leave a lot of bits in the bottom of his cup which he wasn't pleased about so I'm going to make a swap!
I would never use the soy wraps for half a lemon or something left over in a bowl 'cause I don't think they cling that well to stuff after a while (like when you've cleaned them may times i guess). But I LOVE them for wrapping up a sandwich or some kind of snack to take on the go! I guess some people use their stasher bags for that, but I don't have any and I've also heard that silicone is very resource intensive to produce, so in my mind a soy wrap is better? Love these kinds of videos as i follow and love you both 🙏

I bought Tupperware fridge smart containers about 10 years ago. They keep my produce so fresh! Things that would normally wilt overnight like celery have lasted a month in my fridge.... Not that I want to admit that I keep produce that long.
A lot of stores I shop at don’t like the reusable bags for bulk items so they seem kind of silly to me. I just keep the original plastic bag I first used to refill up again. They’re fine for produce though!
Love love love my Stasher bags, I’m in the Shelbi camp so FIGHT US . Planning to take a few traveling this year, particularly on a 10 day mountain trek to test out how waterproof they are for clothing and the like in addition to storing food. But they’re also TSA compliant for traveling with toiletries!
The veggie crisper seems nice but my mum does the same with a simple kitchen cloth/towel so I guess it's a bit of a useless expense (specially considering you said it's expensive)

I LOVE my Stasher bags. I use them pretty much the same as Shelbi does. However, my husband is the only one that eats meat in our house. I have a set of specific coloured bags that I put his meat in before storing it in the freezer. I hand wash them and then put them in the dishwasher to make sure they are extra clean. I’m happy to do it, so they aren’t a burden at all.🥰
I only have one stasher bag due to them being quite expensive but it works wonders for me so far. I’ve had just the one for a year now and I like to put leftovers or snackies inside. It’s easy to just throw in the dishwasher and reuse over and over. Although more than one would be ideal. I’ll work with what I have and what I can afford.

I totally agree about the tea strainers not doing a good enough job! Very intrigued with the reusable tea bag - my main question would be how easy they are to clean afterwards? Do bits of tea get caught in the fabric?
I bought some stasher bags and like them. I use them to carry snacks in my bag like cut up fruit or nuts. Sometimes bits get stuck in the corners but overall they aren’t a hassle to clean. I also have wax wraps which I use less often. Maybe more so in the summer if we have picnics and I want to wrap sandwiches. I never use them to wrap Left over onion etc as I can’t seems to get the smell off them and not meant to wash in hot soapy water so I kinda just leave them in my drawer. Will def look out for the reusable teabag! Great video :)
I have a few Stasher bags. I don't like them because they are hard to clean. Mine also don't stand up and I don't feel they hold very much. Also hard to get the contents into and out of. I'm a fan of Glad reusables plastic containers. Easier to fill, stack in frig, and clean. I also have some of the nylon like produce bags. I find them nearly impossible to remember or keep track of, kind of given up on that one. I use reusable bags exclusively which I don't have a problem remembering. I think the problem lies in the fact that I have a multitude of reusable bags and to look through all of them or trying to remember which ones the produce bags are in just never comes together.
I would guess Shelbi prefers the Stasher bags over the wax wraps because minimalism is so much a part of who she is. The wraps are more single use while the bags are so versatile. I had wraps and found them to be more trouble than they were worth to me so I passed them on. I now have bowl covers and love them even though I could pop a bag over a smaller size bowl and voila! another use for my Stashers.
Another benefit of the stasher bags is that they are one of the easier swaps for non zero-wasters in your household to use! Happy to see Moms Organic featured!
Instead of a crisper bag, I dampen a tea towel or wash cloth and lay my leafy greens across it and roll it up, then just store in the fridge. It keeps things fresh longer and utilizes something most people have already
Thanks for mentioning silicone bags, those I had totally missed so far and I think I'll give them a try. But instead of reusable tea bags, why not try the classic "tea egg" or infusers in other shapes?
I'm not fully vegan so I do use the beeswax wraps, and I would say an advantage of them is that beeswax is naturally Anti-microbial. I used to keep onions, lemons, avocadoes, etc that were partially used in Tupperware and I've found that switching to beeswax both makes more room in my fridge and makes my produce last *days* longer, and they taste so much fresher than my old method.
I feel like the cotton tea bag would be a pain to clean. For tea I started using a bombilla tea straw (used by Argentinians to drink mate) which is a metal straw so you don’t have to strain the tea at all you just drink through the trash that has a spring filter that’s stumper easy to clean. My only con was it was hard to find and had to get it from Amazon and if you like to take you tea leaves out and then drink your tea you can’t do that. But it works great for me and I love it!
I definitely don't use silicon bags or wax wraps... I've had both at various points and find that I simply don't need them. I have been using various containers, jars, super old tupperware, reused plastic tubs from food instead, and they work perfectly! Or I use my granny's trick of just putting a plate on top of the bowl like a lid and that works great.
I don't like silicone bags because I don't like baggies in general haha I use a cotton bulk bag only to get to/from the store then transfer into jars and same with leftovers. I don't mind the extra space because nothing stresses me out more than a drawer full of floppy bags or wedged between things in my fridge. The lesson here being if you didn't like baggies before, then there is no need to swap! It does speak volumes that folks who previously used plastic baggies do enjoy Stasher. To each their own!
Wow, so great to see you and Shelbi in the same video together! Are you in the US!? I’ve tried cotton produce bags, but prefer the see-through synthetic ones. Although they are not compostable, I find them much easier to use. They are lighter, take less space in your shopping bag and easier to clean. Would never use a cloth tea strainer- do you wash it by hand each time? Love my metal tea strainer and don’t mind tiny bits of tea getting through. I use a salad spinner to keep the salad leaves/ spinach. Although it’s plastic, I find it works really well to keep the greens fresh longer! Planning to use it for years.
Nice video Immy. The brushy root thing that you used could be vetiver. It's widely cultivated in India and is commonly used in perfumes and soaps as it has a beautiful smell. It can also be used as a loofah 🙂
My biggest annoyance with all these products is the mess and the extra work clean up involves. From loose grounds in my French press coffee maker to having to wash my grocery totes and Stashers etc, it is a lot more work being eco friendly. I mean I'm committed to the cause but we need to acknowledge that it takes time and dedication to maintain this life style. 😌
I use the wraps for my children's lunches. They are fab for wrapping sandwiches, rolls etc! I'd be interested to see how the re-useable t-bag washed and whether it left a taste in the tea.
Stasher bags are definitely subjective as the cheap ones are pretty rubbish, you get what you pay for! I think the soy wax wraps are useless as they don't provide an airtight seal. Great video again Immy 👏
The I don't like the beeswax wrap because it doesn't keep my bread or vegetables fresh. I reuse a plastic bags over again or container. Love the stasher bags. I did have one tear on the side. This girl loves her jars. Would love more of these reviews.....thanks.
I do use beeswax wraps and almost never use foil or plastic wrap because of that. I have the same rolls I bought a couple years ago before the wraps. I tried a stasher bag and found that I preferred a normal container. It worked, it held the food, but it was more annoying to store than a plain old plastic or glass container that I already had.
I love my Stasher bags! Perfect for snacks for my 3 year old, she thinks they’re so fun! And I also keep my EarthBreeze laundry soap sheets in one to keep them fresh.

1. Reusable bags - I have a couple small Stasher bags (snack size) but most of my reusables are from Full Circle. Some came from Grove, the rest were on sale at Marshall's. Do I like them - yes. Are they pricey, also yes. So I recommend watching for sales. I also don't recommend putting messy/oily things in them. I don't have a dishwasher. I'm trying to gradually buy more of the gallon size because I freeze produce from my CSA, etc. and gallon size is better for that. I did get in a pinch last year and have to buy a box of freezer Ziplocs for the produce, but we always wash & reuse our bags until they fall apart. 2. Wax wraps - meh. I've lived with them before and they were ok. They do have a somewhat short lifespan and they can get moldy if the contents start to grow. If someone gave me some, I'd use them, but normally I just use Tupperware. I've used the "shower caps" before and have liked them, especially for odd shapes. 3. Tea bag - I don't drink tea, but the bag seems iffy on cleaning, A roommate has a metal one and really likes it. I do use a set of Coffee Socks, so if anyone has any ideas how to clean them, that would be great. I usually let the grounds dry out some, dump them in compost, and then rinse the bags well, but I feel they be cleaned more.
looking forward to you revisiting how you like the reusable tea bag! I'm intrigued by its portability but wondering about the washing experience. I'm not into handwashing items, so I've been liking my stainless steel tea strainer because I can pop it in the dishwasher.
The silicon bags seem more lightweight and that they'd take up less room than a glass jar. But I can't see myself buying them unless I break all my jars and can't get hold of replacements from just buying jarred items at the store.
I have been using the cellulose sponges with the sizal scrubby side. They are £1 each!!! They do not last longer than a week because they fall apart. There has to be a better solution
I purchased a little tea straining thing and a big bag of loose tea, but it just feels like a major nuisance using the strainer. I hate having to empty and wash it between every use. I mostly drink coffee now, because there isn't any faffing around. I have found loose tea is good in a teapot tho.
I definitely agree that not all silicone bags are made equal! Stasher bags hold up so well...my Full Circle ones did not, which was a huge bummer. Loved this video!!

I have most of the items you talked about but I do not like the tea bags. I really disliked cleaning them after. Trying to get all the loose leaf tea out and then washing it, not for me. Please let us know your thoughts about washing them and how you washed them. Thanks
My housemate always uses her beeswax wrap for cheese- have never seen her use it for something else- and I see the application because it prevents drying. I personally don't like stasher bags, I have one reusable zip lock (can't remember the brand) that I use for snacks occasionally but only to save space/weight in my bag- I'll always choose glass tupperware and jars and even just bowls with a plate on top, rather than bags in the fridge.

This is a really informative video! My one issue with these is the reusable cotton "tea bag" ... I have owned a loose-leaf tea metal strainer for over a decade now and it literally does the same thing, and imo, stainless steel would last a lot longer and be more worth the money than a cotton bag that might degrade over time. Some of these items are really great, but others I feel are just a cashgrab to get zero waste peeps to buy into more than they need. Just a thought!
Plus I imagine the metal strainer would be easier to clean. I dread the thought of cleaning that cotton bag with all the tea bits stuck to it and using more water to do so!
Yeah I have a few different versions of stainless steel tea steepers and have found ones with small enough holes now that leave barely any tea residue in my cup. Plus as a bonus they're better for keeping high quality teas that are re-steepable for a day or two

My thought , too. I don't drink tea on a regular basis, but an old roommate used a metal one on a daily basis. The fabric one seems...not fun.
I use plates to cover bowls rather than cling film or buying beeswax/soywax wraps and find it does a good enough job!
I feel like some of these can be replaced with stuff you already have: cover bowls with just a regular plate, put vegetables in a container with water etc... Also I have made my own fruit bags from thrifted polyester curtains. I know - plastic - but lighter than cotton, see-through, and no new material needed.
PLEASE continue this series! I think these are super helpful as a relatively new zero-waster who's not sure what's worth using as a replacement and what's not.
I use most of those things and I particularly like the crisper bags for veggies. Since the kids moved out, I'm not using up veggies as fast and they REALLY keep them fresher longer
I love to read people’s stories and hear about their experiences. Here’s mine… on the topic of purchasing ZW items. I grew up in the 60’s & 70’s in a busy family that did not have much money and with parents who were raised in The Depression and The War. Needless to say, we repurposed and upcycled everything out of necessity and frugality… long before the term Zero Waste ever existed. When I first started my Low Waste journey many years ago I got caught up in the craze and I impulsively purchased two fancy glass bottles from an upscale trendy kitchen store. It wasn’t long before I remembered the Low Waste/No Extra Money kitchen that I grew up in. I also remembered all the bottles in my recycling bin in the basement. What was I thinking? That was the first and last of my impulsive aesthetic ZW shopping. I now deliberate over purchases and I seek the opinions, knowledge, and experiences of others (such as you two, Immy & Shelbi, and this video). Great video today Immy… I love my wax wraps!! Gittemary talks about that in one of her videos - one of the most low/zero waste things you can do is not buy a new thing, even if it's "low waste." Why go buy a fancy water bottle when you have one collecting dust in your cabinet? lol
I don’t get why stasher bags seem like a must have for a lot of people! I just use glass jars/tupperware that I accumulated over the years from packaged stuff I bought. Great for storing pretty much everything, wether in the fridge or pantry or on the go. So easy to clean and free!
The only thing that makes sense to me is in the freezer, I guess it would save space, yes. I don’t know maybe im missing something:)

My best “zero waste” item find is my Stasher bag, which I bought from a yard sale for $0.25! It’s the quart size bag, and I found it in great condition. When I move out to my own home, I will definitely buy more Stasher bags!
The things I love the beeswax wraps for is leftover blocks of cheese! It keeps the cheese at the perfect moist/dry level. For those of you that aren't vegan.
I have found that the wax wraps work super well on vegan cheese and also blocks of smoked tofu. I agree with you, the wax wraps seem to hold the perfect amount of moisture. Ⓜ️ary

Yeah! Was looking forward to see you and Shelby back together in a video (plus a bit of Madison is always great!)! I personally love the stacher bags. Extremely expensive, especially in my country, compared to the wages, but one of the best purchases ever! For tea, I don't mind loose leafs, so I use e.g. a metal tea spoon. Just a small tip for the camomile specifically. If you have it loose, like the one you've showed, I was told by some Greeks, that the best way to prepare it, is to boil it for 2-3min, instead of pourring hot water on it. And indeed it tastes better in my opinion:) Cheers to all of you from Poland!:)

An alternative to that crisper bag would be to store greens in a container with a moist cloth. Basically the same idea as the crisper cloth but not a product you need to buy.

These reviews are so helpful! This review in particular is making me rethink how I'm using some of the more difficult to use items like the silicone bags. Having a dishwasher helps with the cleaning component but for the larger bags I find that more often then not when I wash them in there they just end up full of gross dishwashing water. But! They're still great for other storage purposes or if you're traveling with liquid bath products! And a tip for the bee/soy wax covers: Some can be hard to heat by hand. I like to (very gently and carefully) heat them by holding them 5+ inches over my stovetop. With just a little low heat, it makes them much more mailable.
That "washing whisk" - that's what my grandma used to wash dishes in Mexico- well over 50 years ago. I used it growing up and it worked.

Bees wrap is incredible for storing avocado!! I haven’t found anything else that preserves half and avocado or guacamole like the wax wraps do
If you use the half of the avocado without the pit then you can just put the empty skin back on the half with the pit and tie a rubber band or put it in a container that would hold them together and it works amazing! Can last up to a week like that in the fridge. Also, if you keep the pit in the guacamole, it will prevent it from browning for a few days :)

I love the crisper bags! I eat kale every day and during the lockdown with limited grocery shopping, kale lasted two weeks in those bags with no problem. In fact, the bags can even bring wilted greens back to life. I also love stasher bags, especially for freezing food. They are so much better than plastic for preventing freezer problems like ice crystal buildup. I don’t find them hard to wash, but they are hard to dry. I usually put them upside down on a bottle to dry. Great video!
I use beeswax warps to wrap up sandwiches or biscuits or things like that when I make my lunches for work, instead of using clingfilm. I mainly use silicone bags and Tupperware when sorting things in the fridge.
The washing up whisk works great, muy grandparents that lives in Chine hand-make them, and use them for cleaning pan and all kind of stuff.

I do have silicone zip bags, and I'm so happy with the product. I store so many different goods in those bags, freeze and use it wherever I go. And also Meowoo beeswax food wraps, fantastic, fantastic loooove those to beets. 🙌👏👏👏👌
This high school teacher can 💯 recommend these Low Waste swaps for the classroom, student life, artist life, and/or any kids events, educational activities, etc:
1) Refillable White Board Markers - Amazing!! I haven’t used a disposable one in years.
2) Pencil crayons instead of highlighters - they’re cheaper & compostable
3) Peanut butter jars (clear ones) for tool kits (I teach sewing) or art supplies etc.
4) Plastic milk jugs (bottom half) or clear tomato tubs make excellent thread catchers or mini-garbage bins at student activity stations.
5) Custodians - they give me all the pens, pencils, erasers, etc that they sweep up everyday.
These are just some of the low waste swaps that really work, and some of them are free. I will say that the Refillable White Board Markers are expensive, but I have a set of 6 different colours and they have lasted for years (decades!!). There is so much waste in the school system that we can cut down on with just a l’il bit of effort. Thanks, Immy, for allowing me to share my suggestions here in your space. 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary☃️. I have tried 5 time to post the link for you, and for whatever reasons, my comment will not take. So I will tell you that the brand name is AusPen and perhaps you can search for them online. I received my set of six refillable dry erase markers well over a year ago as part of a trial/pilot project in my school district to test these white board markers in the classroom. Mine are still going strong and I cannot recommend them enough to anybody who wants to move away from disposable dry erase markers. Sorry for the delay and I hope this info is helpful to you. As a Dutch girl we have a big block of Gouda cheese in the fridge. I wrap my cheese in the beeswax wrap and is stays fresh longer than in the paper or plastic they sell it in. Also parmesan cheese stays soft for longer.
Personally, I clean and reuse glass jars to store dry ingredients or partially opened foods :)
For the crisper bag, I usually just dampen a tea towel and wrap my herbs in that. Keeps them fresh so much longer :)

I've already decided that for Christmas next year I'm getting each of my non eco family members a stand up Stasher bag and a container of bulk purchased popcorn kernels. You never know what thing will spark an interest in a lower waste lifestyle, and even if it doesn't spark an interest I think it'll make a great gift.

Love stasher bags worth every penny. The beeswax wraps are great for when you have a nice loaf of bread or baked goods, don’t want to use plastic and don’t have an alternative. Found it keeps my bread really fresh. Never tried the reusable tea bag. Thanks 🙏🏻💜
That teabag looks interesting. Overall I am a big fan of using a french press for tea, and not just for the zero waste aspect of it. I have a big one that I use for most of my tea, but I am still looking for a good solution for single cups. I currently use a small teapot with a strainer, but as you mentioned sometimes small bits of tea slip through and with black tea that can cause the tea to turn really bitter. I think I am going to look into what it takes to diy those tea bags in a food save way. Plain undyed cotton can withstand boiling water so it shouldn't be too difficult.
I was also a bit hesitant about the crisper bag, but am a big fan! I have the same brand you just bought and use the large bag for ~3 heads of kale and lettuce. I usually will use the greens in a week, but even up to 1.5 weeks, the greens are still going strong. I do store it in the crisper drawer too. I've tried using other cotton bags and it does not give the same life or keep the greens crisp. I think the foldover shape helps lock in the moisture too. I wash it with my other kitchen towels and hang dry. I hope it's successful for you too!
I agree about the Stasher bags; they're really good, especially the stand-up ones. I think they're pretty easy to clean--fill with warm water and a little soap--close the bag, shake vigorously, and rinse! Easy peasy. They are life changing.
I just want to say to Shelbi that I love stasher bags, too. However, I do agree with Gittemary that they are a pain to hand wash. Unfortunately, not everyone has a dishwasher, including me and Gittemary. ;) ♥ I only have the sandwich size Stasher bags because I was able to get them half-price at my local grocery store. They don't carry the larger ones, which I would really like for my frozen food. They are also ridiculously expensive. But they are great, in their way. :D

I have off brand stasher bags and also no dishwasher. I only use mine for dried goods or sometimes fruit and weg but would never keep anything like soup in them. Mine have also become slightly distorted over the year I have owned them, and one of them is very difficult to close up properly now.
I’m able to turn mine inside out and have no problem cleaning them.

Nice, thank you for sharing! I have used cotton tea bags for a while now, I even have some that are for different colour teas because they will stain the cloth. So i have a pink hibiscus stained one , a green one and one that is more for herbal teas.
I also love the Stasher bags! And I use bowl covers (with the elastic rim) like Shelbi does--they are so easy to use, wash, and reuse. We have been using them for years.
I am still using up saran wrap from 3 years ago - I very rarely need to cover up stuff with that. Then I still use the same old tupperware and old jars and so on. I use a damp towel instead of the bag, and I place plates on top of bowls - works for me. My lesson here was not to buy anything new, because there probably is something I can use instead, that I already own.
I tried to convert my parents into using silicone bags instead of ziploc bags and they hate them. 😭 They find them hard to wash and hard to open. (Something to consider for people with weaker hands.) luckily they have a lot of glass jars around the house so they’ve been using those to store halves of onions, avocados, etc.
It sounds ridiculous to some of us that silicone bags are “inconvenient” and “hard to wash” but convenience is a huge thing when asking people to change their lifestyle.
Oooohhhh I totally feel your parents' frustration. The stasher bags are easy to clean for me in the dishwasher, but they are hard to open! I'm sure if I had any hand issues it would be a deal breaker.
For my parents, I recommended using the dishwasher for the harder stuff, but also not putting super messy/oily things in the bags. We've been reusing bags for years to save money, so washing them was not a jump.
For your reusable tea bag, a tip I saw on James Hoffman's channel is to wash them out then put them in the freezer, instead of drying. It's supposed to prevent a mildew taste accumulating on the fabric. I've done this for a few months with my coffee filter and seems to do the trick!
I have metal tea eggs (?) that function like strainers but have finer holes, but I also have cloth bag (?). The cloth bag decolorises super fast but gets the job done admiringly. Washing it out is pretty easy, you just turn it inside out and wash the residue off.
I use stashers to store frozen bananas (as opposed to using plastic bags or plastic wrap). I've had mine for 4+ years and they are great imo.
Tip to clean silcone bags without a dishwasher is to use a bottle brush or any smaller dish brush. Works for me!

Thank you for your thoughts on the cotton reusable tea bags. I bought a little metal strainer to try and encourage my husband to make his tea plastic free and it did leave a lot of bits in the bottom of his cup which he wasn't pleased about so I'm going to make a swap!
I would never use the soy wraps for half a lemon or something left over in a bowl 'cause I don't think they cling that well to stuff after a while (like when you've cleaned them may times i guess). But I LOVE them for wrapping up a sandwich or some kind of snack to take on the go! I guess some people use their stasher bags for that, but I don't have any and I've also heard that silicone is very resource intensive to produce, so in my mind a soy wrap is better? I bought Tupperware fridge smart containers about 10 years ago. They keep my produce so fresh! Things that would normally wilt overnight like celery have lasted a month in my fridge.... Not that I want to admit that I keep produce that long.
A lot of stores I shop at don’t like the reusable bags for bulk items so they seem kind of silly to me. I just keep the original plastic bag I first used to refill up again. They’re fine for produce though!

Planning to take a few traveling this year, particularly on a 10 day mountain trek to test out how waterproof they are for clothing and the like in addition to storing food. But they’re also TSA compliant for traveling with toiletries!
The veggie crisper seems nice but my mum does the same with a simple kitchen cloth/towel so I guess it's a bit of a useless expense (specially considering you said it's expensive)

I LOVE my Stasher bags. I use them pretty much the same as Shelbi does. However, my husband is the only one that eats meat in our house. I have a set of specific coloured bags that I put his meat in before storing it in the freezer. I hand wash them and then put them in the dishwasher to make sure they are extra clean. I’m happy to do it, so they aren’t a burden at all.🥰

I only have one stasher bag due to them being quite expensive but it works wonders for me so far. I’ve had just the one for a year now and I like to put leftovers or snackies inside. It’s easy to just throw in the dishwasher and reuse over and over. Although more than one would be ideal. I’ll work with what I have and what I can afford.

I totally agree about the tea strainers not doing a good enough job! Very intrigued with the reusable tea bag - my main question would be how easy they are to clean afterwards? Do bits of tea get caught in the fabric?
I bought some stasher bags and like them. I use them to carry snacks in my bag like cut up fruit or nuts. Sometimes bits get stuck in the corners but overall they aren’t a hassle to clean. I also have wax wraps which I use less often. Maybe more so in the summer if we have picnics and I want to wrap sandwiches. I never use them to wrap
Left over onion etc as I can’t seems to get the smell off them and not meant to wash in hot soapy water so I kinda just leave them in my drawer. Will def look out for the reusable teabag! Great video :)
I have a few Stasher bags. I don't like them because they are hard to clean. Mine also don't stand up and I don't feel they hold very much. Also hard to get the contents into and out of. I'm a fan of Glad reusables plastic containers. Easier to fill, stack in frig, and clean. I also have some of the nylon like produce bags. I find them nearly impossible to remember or keep track of, kind of given up on that one. I use reusable bags exclusively which I don't have a problem remembering. I think the problem lies in the fact that I have a multitude of reusable bags and to look through all of them or trying to remember which ones the produce bags are in just never comes together.
I would guess Shelbi prefers the Stasher bags over the wax wraps because minimalism is so much a part of who she is. The wraps are more single use while the bags are so versatile. I had wraps and found them to be more trouble than they were worth to me so I passed them on. I now have bowl covers and love them even though I could pop a bag over a smaller size bowl and voila! another use for my Stashers.
Another benefit of the stasher bags is that they are one of the easier swaps for non zero-wasters in your household to use! Happy to see Moms Organic featured!
Instead of a crisper bag, I dampen a tea towel or wash cloth and lay my leafy greens across it and roll it up, then just store in the fridge. It keeps things fresh longer and utilizes something most people have already
I think the scrub that you have it's a wok scrubber. It's a little abrasive to get the sticky bits out. but very good
I like my bees wax wraps but they are softer and more pliable as they are made with a mix of wax, oil and pine resin.
Thanks for mentioning silicone bags, those I had totally missed so far and I think I'll give them a try. But instead of reusable tea bags, why not try the classic "tea egg" or infusers in other shapes?
I'm not fully vegan so I do use the beeswax wraps, and I would say an advantage of them is that beeswax is naturally Anti-microbial.
I used to keep onions, lemons, avocadoes, etc that were partially used in Tupperware and I've found that switching to beeswax both makes more room in my fridge and makes my produce last *days* longer, and they taste so much fresher than my old method.
I feel like the cotton tea bag would be a pain to clean. For tea I started using a bombilla tea straw (used by Argentinians to drink mate) which is a metal straw so you don’t have to strain the tea at all you just drink through the trash that has a spring filter that’s stumper easy to clean. My only con was it was hard to find and had to get it from Amazon and if you like to take you tea leaves out and then drink your tea you can’t do that. But it works great for me and I love it!
I definitely don't use silicon bags or wax wraps... I've had both at various points and find that I simply don't need them. I have been using various containers, jars, super old tupperware, reused plastic tubs from food instead, and they work perfectly! Or I use my granny's trick of just putting a plate on top of the bowl like a lid and that works great.
I don't like silicone bags because I don't like baggies in general haha I use a cotton bulk bag only to get to/from the store then transfer into jars and same with leftovers. I don't mind the extra space because nothing stresses me out more than a drawer full of floppy bags or wedged between things in my fridge. The lesson here being if you didn't like baggies before, then there is no need to swap! It does speak volumes that folks who previously used plastic baggies do enjoy Stasher. To each their own!

I’ve tried cotton produce bags, but prefer the see-through synthetic ones. Although they are not compostable, I find them much easier to use. They are lighter, take less space in your shopping bag and easier to clean. Would never use a cloth tea strainer- do you wash it by hand each time? Love my metal tea strainer and don’t mind tiny bits of tea getting through. I use a salad spinner to keep the salad leaves/ spinach. Although it’s plastic, I find it works really well to keep the greens fresh longer! Planning to use it for years.
Nice video Immy. The brushy root thing that you used could be vetiver. It's widely cultivated in India and is commonly used in perfumes and soaps as it has a beautiful smell. It can also be used as a loofah 🙂
are you supposed to wash it for 5min before each use? or just the first time?
My biggest annoyance with all these products is the mess and the extra work clean up involves. From loose grounds in my French press coffee maker to having to wash my grocery totes and Stashers etc, it is a lot more work being eco friendly. I mean I'm committed to the cause but we need to acknowledge that it takes time and dedication to maintain this life style. 😌
I use the wraps for my children's lunches. They are fab for wrapping sandwiches, rolls etc!
I'd be interested to see how the re-useable t-bag washed and whether it left a taste in the tea.
Stasher bags are definitely subjective as the cheap ones are pretty rubbish, you get what you pay for! I think the soy wax wraps are useless as they don't provide an airtight seal. Great video again Immy 👏
The I don't like the beeswax wrap because it doesn't keep my bread or vegetables fresh. I reuse a plastic bags over again or container. Love the stasher bags. I did have one tear on the side. This girl loves her jars. Would love more of these reviews.....thanks.

I do use beeswax wraps and almost never use foil or plastic wrap because of that. I have the same rolls I bought a couple years ago before the wraps.
I tried a stasher bag and found that I preferred a normal container. It worked, it held the food, but it was more annoying to store than a plain old plastic or glass container that I already had.
I love my Stasher bags! Perfect for snacks for my 3 year old, she thinks they’re so fun! And I also keep my EarthBreeze laundry soap sheets in one to keep them fresh.

1. Reusable bags - I have a couple small Stasher bags (snack size) but most of my reusables are from Full Circle. Some came from Grove, the rest were on sale at Marshall's. Do I like them - yes. Are they pricey, also yes. So I recommend watching for sales. I also don't recommend putting messy/oily things in them. I don't have a dishwasher. I'm trying to gradually buy more of the gallon size because I freeze produce from my CSA, etc. and gallon size is better for that. I did get in a pinch last year and have to buy a box of freezer Ziplocs for the produce, but we always wash & reuse our bags until they fall apart.
2. Wax wraps - meh. I've lived with them before and they were ok. They do have a somewhat short lifespan and they can get moldy if the contents start to grow. If someone gave me some, I'd use them, but normally I just use Tupperware. I've used the "shower caps" before and have liked them, especially for odd shapes.
3. Tea bag - I don't drink tea, but the bag seems iffy on cleaning, A roommate has a metal one and really likes it. I do use a set of Coffee Socks, so if anyone has any ideas how to clean them, that would be great. I usually let the grounds dry out some, dump them in compost, and then rinse the bags well, but I feel they be cleaned more.
looking forward to you revisiting how you like the reusable tea bag! I'm intrigued by its portability but wondering about the washing experience. I'm not into handwashing items, so I've been liking my stainless steel tea strainer because I can pop it in the dishwasher.
The silicon bags seem more lightweight and that they'd take up less room than a glass jar. But I can't see myself buying them unless I break all my jars and can't get hold of replacements from just buying jarred items at the store.
I have been using the cellulose sponges with the sizal scrubby side. They are £1 each!!! They do not last longer than a week because they fall apart. There has to be a better solution
I purchased a little tea straining thing and a big bag of loose tea, but it just feels like a major nuisance using the strainer. I hate having to empty and wash it between every use. I mostly drink coffee now, because there isn't any faffing around. I have found loose tea is good in a teapot tho.

I definitely agree that not all silicone bags are made equal! Stasher bags hold up so well...my Full Circle ones did not, which was a huge bummer. Loved this video!!

I have most of the items you talked about but I do not like the tea bags. I really disliked cleaning them after. Trying to get all the loose leaf tea out and then washing it, not for me. Please let us know your thoughts about washing them and how you washed them. Thanks
My housemate always uses her beeswax wrap for cheese- have never seen her use it for something else- and I see the application because it prevents drying. I personally don't like stasher bags, I have one reusable zip lock (can't remember the brand) that I use for snacks occasionally but only to save space/weight in my bag- I'll always choose glass tupperware and jars and even just bowls with a plate on top, rather than bags in the fridge.
