Just watched Anthony Bourdain's(who i normally like)' take on' Finland because of comments, and it's terrible! I am originally from Latvia with some relatives from Estonia and i have Finnish friends and have been there few times. It is beautiful place to visit with reaaaally nice people, And i love food too! it's like Anthony tried as hard as he could to make bad program about Finland, this program is much much closer to what it actually is like over there! Much love to Finns!
This guy's so cool and chill :D I'm amazed how he likes everything he puts in his mouth. Much much better than Bourdain or Ramsey. A nice friendly fella
@@blackcoffeebeans6100 And that finnish gypsy who toured him showed Bourdain a gypsy place, russian bar, ugliest sauna in Finland etc. I also felt angry when i watched that episode.
the new potatoes of Finland are the greatest potatoes you can ever have. they are a thing to go to Finland for even if its just to eat that and go back.
I think this show portrays Finland in a good way. I've always wanted to go to Finland, and this episode of Bizarre Foods makes Finland seem really enticing.

One note if you come finland: Don't go to BAR!! Only because thats not real Finland. And Dont stay in Helsinki because thats like Barcelona. I mean this: 1. Helsinki is expensive 2. There is many Beutyfull places like Lake Saimaa and Lapland. 3. Taste everything what you found. (I mean finnish food OFC)
Mämmi is terrible. XD It's like a big pile of sweet-tasting cow dung... one of the few Finnish foods I can't handle, even as a Finn. My mom hates it, too, and she's in her 60s.
+DeltaSilver88 if you mix it with unwhipped cream and sugar you are in for a treat, be careful not to use too much of either or, or else you won't taste anything out of the mämmi
Toward the end of this film i think the true finnish culture shone out and you can see how hard some fins are working to keep it going great programme.
A great tradition in the sauna is to cook potatoes and sausages wrapped in aluminum foil at the end of the sauna session. After the sauna the adults drink a very cold beer, and the children a very cold soda, I miss my Jaffa in France.
I have so many fond memories of going fishing for crayfish with my father. We used to spend our summers on this little reservation in northern Saskatchewan, and go crayfish hunting most days.
now this is the reason why i love my country, it has some much to give, even when it has given it's all. it's like a gift that keeps on giving. GO FINLAND!
I think the ones that are shown in this film are Signal crayfish which is american breed that is more resilient to crayfishplaque than Astacus astacus which is the european crayfish.
I’ve been twice to Finland, great food and great people and a most enjoyable time. I had all kind of food, cold smokes reindeer, excellent fish, and smoked bear sausage. One thing I could not found was “bizzar food”. Might I have to go to Iceland for some Hákarl
Yes, here in finland we like eat blood, Yes, we eat rudolph the reindeers brothers and other family, Yes we eat bear, Yes we eat poisonous mushrooms. and we are NOT insane! proud finnish people thumbs up!
Good seeing these programs take people elsewhere than Helsinki. Our city has lost it's original flavor in most places. Only monuments and people with little or no personality. Cudos, a show well done. Entertaining and amusing.
It's the swedish speakers who eat all that crayfish... Too bad Andrew missed a party with them, It is an experience. You have to sing a song and drink a shot of vodka for every crayfish.
Im so proud of our country. We finns are so lucky of what we have that we dont normally even see it cause its so normal to us but if you sit down and think about it.. it really is like lottery win to be born at finland.
If you want to learn Finnish there are self-teaching materials you can buy and Saturday schools if you want to practice conversation. There are intensive courses in Finland also. Finnish is like any other language, it needs practice and persistence to learn.
You should travel to eastern Finland like the city of Kuopio or Joensuu and ask for something called ''muikkukukko'' and ''karjalanpiirakka''. They are the most traditional and by far most delicious cuisines in Finland.
LOL, now i know, i am sure the finnish people are not all miserable, they just seem in this video to be very relaxed and non plussed that they are on tv . I dont expect them to be jumping up and down on a cooking show but a little more enthusiasm is what i am used to in Britain.

Finns are "Omivorous" ...meaning we eat greens, the critters that eat the greens, the predators that eat the critters and most of everything in between XD
(American keyboard and no keyboard with number pad so...) Mammi is only made around Easter time and takes several days to make! This guy was there in summer and all the food shown here is cooked 'instantly'..
Actually, this gives the best picture of finland. These foods what this guy is presenting in this show, are same as we eat almost every day in here finland. I'm hunter my self, and im eating duck, deer, rabbit etc. every week several times. But im really disappointed, because this show didn't present one of the most common food, "Mustamakkara". Translation is Blacksausage or Blood sausage. You cant compare that to blood pudding, It's totally different and more delicious than pudding.
Looks good? Wait till you try it! It's better than strawberries in my opinion. Very sweet and slightly bitter at the same time. They grow wild in the north and are quite expensive too, because of the short time they are available. Try it if you have the chance!
Meeppä ihan huvikseen käymään jossain Louisianassa niin puolet safkasta mitä sulle tullaan tarjoon on "outoja". Kaikki jenkithän eivät nimittäin vedäkkään päivä dieettinä juustohamppareita ja kokista.
@maarukka58 - Eating blood not so common? A few videos attest otherwise, but of course, I couldn't know, being neither Finnish nor having been (yet) to Finland. In any case, the blood cake recipes actually looked good to me and I started looking up recipes!
then i strongly recommend you visit the "Wanha Kauppahalli" and "Hakaniemen halli" if you want the best of the best and exotic stuff when it comes to food :) both located in Helsinki of course.
Isn't the idea of the program to point out foods that are rare or non existent anywhere else exept to where he is visiting? That way he does pretty good job I think. Like he says seal meat is rare and you can't have it everywhere - not even in Finland - seal is a protected animal. If one is killed in fishingnets though - you can eat it. And to point it out: I've eaten everything he eats on this program exept for seal meat and that poisonous mushroom which looks pretty good.
lol he probably couldn't do it because he was either 1. uncomfortable or 2. our tv producers said no nakedness :P, if I ever go to finland I might have issues with the nakedness bit lol
this documentary is much better than Anthony Bourdain's. This presents a real food of Finland - not just drinking in Helsinki.
For some reason they forgot pettu bread. Used to be a huge hit during the famine years.
