Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time UA-camr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. I don’t really watch anyone else for make up. Something about Jen clicked with me, she’s mature, beautiful, HAPPY! , honest and doesn’t try to animate her videos with fake enthusiasm. She is closer to my age and there’s just something about her I enjoy watching.

Beautiful eye look, I think the Alter Ego looks a bit more pigmented and vibrant compared to the ABH.

This eye look is super pretty. Wasn't interested in the abh palette when it came out. I like the alter ego one better. It really makes your blue 💙 eyes pop. Very Beautiful outside packaging. ❤ great job Jen.

Yours is the third video I've watched today where the Alter Ego looked and performed better. Very exciting.
Although I have every Alter Ego pallet they have come out with, I was on the fence of buying this one just because of the color story. After I saw how you applied the shades, I am sold. It looks absolutely stunning. I also loved the foundation you used from L’Oréal along with the blush. Thanks you Jen for your honest reviews.

Dang. I can usually guess the expensive side in these videos, but you had me stumped with this one! I picked the wrong side because of how well that shimmer shadow popped. Hats off to Alter Ego! 🎉👍🏼

Great vid Jen! I think I'm the only person in the world who does not like the Lash Princess mascara. It doesn't hold a curl on me even with the waterproof. Bummer bc the price is awesome!
One thing I will say about Alter Ego - I always like the palette names and packaging that they choose to convey the color story of whatever they are knocking off. Somehow, it's like I give them more credit for that creative spin than I ever would to any other brand that copies so openly and blatantly. Also.... I am getting so tired of the word 'dupe.' I understand the nature of the industry, I understand when a winning concept proliferates through the open market. It's not a bad thing, it's just becoming repetitive and fatiguing. I wish that term could be more reserved for products like this, which are literal, identical duplicates of something. But again - I get it. Not mad at you for talking about dupes!! It's just the way things are right now! Everybody's out there, DUPIN' IT UP!!!!😆
As a gal on a budget I will NEVER get tired of dupes. 😍😍😍😍
I definitely understand where you're coming from! I wouldn't say all of these are necessarily dupes. The Alter Ego palette...yes but other things like the IT Cosmetics vs. Loreal foundations aren't dupes but are a good affordable alternative. Every time I talk about a high end product, I get at least one comment asking if I can find a dupe for it, so I do these videos because I figure people are looking for them. 🥰🥰
With the way makeup prices are increasing, I appreciate dupes and/or alternatives. Love you Jen and appreciate your videos! Happy Mothers Day.

I don't think many people take the word "dupe" quite as literally as you. I feel most people understand to denote drugstore products that come very close or close enough to a higher priced product of the same category.
Sorry if the above sounded harsh, it really wasn't meant to, but I struggled to word it "softer".
Personally, I don't care what terminology a Content Creator uses, (dupe, alternative or looky-likey), I'm just happy if the cheaper version performs as well as or as near to its dearer option. 😉😊
We live in an age where I believe the industry expects someone to come along and make the same products for a more reasonable price, and if they can produce it for so much less makes me wonder why they are charging such a high price to begin with. If they charged a more reasonable price they would be less likely to be "duped";)

I always felt that the nouveaux palette faded in me too! I was always so surprised how many people seemed to love it. I can’t love a product that doesn’t last more than an hour.
Great vid Jen. Before you started your tutorial, I was trying to guess which side is the high end. I actually thought the drugstore side was the high end. I think the Alter Ego eyeshadows look better

I've never had any luck or liking for IT CC creams or foundations. Always settles into lines and feels and looks very heavy on me at 57 and oily

Sadly, I splurged on the ABH palette just after the holidays and this looks like an amazing dupe! The look you created with it is lovely. ETA: If you are on the fence about this one, get it! I love the color story of this palette so much that it's the only eyeshadow I took with me on vacation this year. It's really versatile.

I agree about Alter Ego formula, it often beats out high end. It Cosmetics doesn't make a shade light enough for me and I've always wanted to be able to use it, I can't wait to try your alternate L'Oreal suggestion. Thanks Jen!!

The nude glow line actually goes lighter than their usual line so, personally, I think I'll give them one more try. I was super interested by the L'oreal one, but I found it contains denatured alcohol. Which, for me, is a dealbreaker because my skin is sensitive to denatured alcohol.

I don’t have any ABH palettes, but I bought my first Alter Ego palette about two weeks ago. It was the Midsummer palette. I bought it for the color story, but the formula sold me. This is now my favorite palette ever. I’ll be buying more Alter Ego.

I loooove the loreal age perfect serum foundation. It does oxidize a little on me but not much to stop me from wearing it. I really want to try the blushes next. Great video!

im so happy you are doing these kinds of videos with tutorials. When I first started watching your channel, it was all speed reviews. Now its more personable. I really enjoy it more than I did in the beginning. Not that I hated the content cuz I still enjoy those too. I just need a mix of everything, I guess. So I appreciate this. thank you.
Aw thank you! I used to feel very insecure in my makeup skills which is why I never tried on anything on camera and just did reviews. But after lots of practice I finally feel a little bit better about doing my makeup in front of others. 🥰
@@JenPhelps That is understandable. Honestly, I am camera shy. So you are doing a better job than I am thus far, but you are also more photogenic than I am because you are so pretty. I know I've told you that in many other comments, but I stand by my claims because its true. The reason I appreciate you doing the tutorials is because I want to see how these products actually perform. "Actions speak louder than words", right? I may not like every look you do in your videos, but I dont like my own either because sometimes I simply just look hideous and so I go and wash it right off. Its no big deal, but dont feel insecure because GIRL you are amazing and I enjoy your content.

I just got the NYX glitter primer. NYX had a regular primer. I swatched both on my hand and the glitter primer definitely brought out the color better. Haven't tried on my eyes yet. Hopefully I'll like it bc my colors lose their definition. It all just kinda ends up looking about the same? Lid, crease, brow and liner. Ty

I have to say the L’Oréal side of your face looked so so much smoother and plumper than the It side. I mean you have beautiful skin but the difference, to me, was very apparent. The L’Oréal side even looked younger

Thanks, Jen, for this comparison, I was tempted by the ABH pallette, but definitely, the price played part in my not buying it. I just bought the Alter Ego and can't wait to get it, I love every AE pallette I have, so I have high hopes I will love this too.
I am thrilled that Alter Ego has come out with a Dupe for the ABH palette. I was fortunately able to get the ABH palette around Christmas for half price and I LOVE it. I for some reason have NO fall out. I mean none. But, the colors are absolutely gorgeous. I knew I had to have it when I was at Ulta and saw it in person. The pictures on screen don't do it justice. I have GOT to go check out Alter Ego because I am all about saving money on cosmetics. I love your content so much!
I must say I like the drugstore side better. The L’Oréal foundation looks better then the it cosmetics. I love the essence mascara. I try others but always go back to that one. I haven’t had an issue with it smearing on me.
