- I have always wanted to video WHR at its highest point on the climb to Rhyd Ddu summit. Beneath Snowdon.
I did this in September over two days filming NG/G16 No's. 87 & 130.
On Friday 16th I videoed both locomotives.
No.87 climbing toward Rhyd Ddu station & No.130 departing the station in the opposite direction.
Both trains covering the whole length of the WHR.
No.87 had a very high squeak which came from a leaking cylinder valve!
It was a very blustery but sunny day.
On Sunday 18th I went back to the same location to film No.87 climb to the summit with a train from Caernarfon to Beddgelert & return.
The weather was much calmer & clearer, as I could see the summit of Snowdon.
I also filmed its run round at Beddgelert & its return climbing towards Rhyd Ddu summit through Beddgelert forest.
The WHR runs through the Snowdonia National Park along some breaking scenery in North Wales.
Wonderful footage Ger, it's a stunning location to capture these WHR trains.
Thanks Bob, I didnt know this location when I last videoed the WHR in 2018. Saw a photo of the horseshoe in a book! So went out to discover its location. Its a shame theres usually only one train each way every day. Geraint
A Garratt always sounds like a doubleheader in one loco!
Yes I agree, a lovely locomotive
Nice video :)
Thank you
