That trombone entry near the end of the cadenza at 3:03 always makes the hairs at the back of my neck stand up. Maximum effect from minimal resources: that is one of Britten's greatest skills.

Superb. A masterclass on variable sounding point, both sharpness and softness in attacking double stops and chords, haunting harmonics, and crystal-clear left- and right-hand pizzicatos. The character of the conflicted Britten concerto is captured wonderfully. 👍👍

Double stop harmonics! I was just wondering a few hours ago if double stop harmonics had ever been used in any compositions, then I started trying them to see if I could get any that sounded good. None were quite so clean as those in this performance.
