Hi! This video made my life just a little bit better, and thank you for existing! I mostly just needed it to figure out how the pencil bit worked, but I ended up watching the whole video just because you're awesome! Also, I am definitely going to purchase those refills too. For people who are watching just for the pencil bit it starts at around 8:05 Thanks again!
Sweet Baby Jesus! Thank you. You've answered all my questions, including (and most importantly) the quality of the original ink. Love everything about the pen, but was curious of the quality of ink and a bit skeptical of the suggestions of swapping other brands as refills. I've just placed my order now.
Thanks! If you unscrew the grip, you will see each refill. Pull the white plastic part off the lead refill. You should be able to drop lead in the tube and replace the white plastic piece. That's how I refilled mine. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
I have just purchased this pen in Australia and love it. I am a heavy consumer of multi colour pens as I am a nurse and need different colours for charting etc... This is my go to pen, it comes to the hospital with me, goes to uni and lives with me basically. The clip works well whilst at work, clipped on my shirt. I also use the pencil for my draft diary entries and then write in pen when confirmed. I have been ok with the ink that came with it, but have had some blobbing with several of the colours. I will order different refills. Thank you for your video!!
+Donna You're welcome! I'm so glad you find the pen as useful and pleasing as I have. It is one of my favorite pens in my collection. If you find some exceptional refills, please let me know. And good luck at uni! Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
FWIW: I tried posting a longer comment THREE TIMES because it kept disappearing after each post. In case they reappear, THAT IS WHY. Good going, YT...🙄 *EDIT→* I reposted the longer comment ONE MORE TIME after posting THIS comment.
Go to jetpens.com. Search for the pen. There is a link above the pen description that says refills. Click it, and it will list all compatible refills for this pen. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
Thank you; I'm glad you liked it. I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you beyond simple checking for stuck lead. I would suggest contacting Pilot customer service and asking them for guidance. I hope you get some help that way. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
I tried to replace the refill in a Pilot multi pen once, and unfortunately it Ruined The Pen, which means the Pilot Dr Grip multi pens aren’t Refillable compared to their single pen counterpart!😤
You're welcome! I searched for that specific refill and compatible products, as well as compatible refills with the pen. I don't see that they work together. I would suggest going to jetpens.com. Search for either the refill or pen. Right above the product description is a link to compatible products. That should list what pens work with that refill or what refills will work with a particular pen. I hope that works for you. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
I really appreciate your review of this pen and suggestions for ink refills. I just received one of these from Amazon and thought the pencil was broken, but it's not! I thought I was pulling down on the clip like you showed, but I guess not. Glad it's working now. I like the pen so much that I just ordered the bordeaux pen and a bunch of the refills you recommended. Now I can have one pen for work and one for home. Thanks!
I believe I’ve seen this pen in two different versions: one version with a plastic barrel the other with a metal barrel. Can anyone confirm a metal version exists? And if so how to figure out how to buy it instead of the plastic version?
I love this pen, too. I’m a little confused about your comments about substandard ink in the original pen as mine came pre-filled with Pilot BVRF-8F Acro Ink Ballpoint 0.7mm, and that’s also what Pilot sells as the official refill ink for this pen. I think that’s the same ink you actually ordered for one slot and seem to like. What kind of ink did your original pen have in it?
I couldn't tell you at this point since those refills have long been gone through. I worked my way through both the ones I purchased and then the ones that originally came with the pen. I think I was a little unfair in my harsh pre-judgement of the original ink. If I remember correctly, I thought it was okay. But we're talking a while ago. I'm sorry. I wish I could remember more to better address your question. I'm glad you love the pen, though; I still do, too! Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
richard kusi-menkah Thanks. I agree. I try to write in cursive most of the time, and I certainly can fall out of practice if I go too long without using it. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
How nice of you. I appreciate that. I just haven't purchased much of anything lately and feel like I don't have anything to offer right now, otherwise, I would! I miss making videos! Thank you for watching and commenting. :-)
Thanks for sharing. So to clarify, you can buy the 0.7 body in the color you want and you can always change the ink refill to gel..either .5 or .7??...Ive been looking for something like this for such along time, but didnt realize that this pen is compatible with other brands aside from Pilot. I love pentell ink..and i have one in .5 that i love..so its good to know that i can get that..however im in Canada...lol
Hi, I like your handwriting. I am not able to get the right technique. Dou you draw letters moving your fingers or you just move your arm or both? If I write with the fingers I get tension but if I move the arm I lose control.
José María García Hm... I do both. I definitely have to work at it, and if I don't write in cursive for a period of time, I'm quite rusty and have to get back in the swing of things. I hope this helps; I'm sorry I couldn't offer more.
Im confused on which ink refill to get. I copied and pasted the names of the ink listed in the description onto the search bar for jetpens.com but I don't see them listed with those names. Anyway, two questions: Do the ink refills you suggest match the correct length without the need to make cuts to fit into the pen? What ink refills can I just buy from the store that's comparable?
I'm sorry it didn't work for you to cut and paste. If you just search for this pen on jetpens.com, the product description will come up. Then under Description, there will be a link to Recommended Refills/Parts. All compatible refills will be listed there (including those I purchased and others.) You could then purchase those refills from jetpens.com or Amazon. I'm not sure if they would be found at local stores. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
I bit the bullet and bought the Bordeaux 4+1. Per your advice, I also bought new refills. I only got the pen today, but loving it so far (with the refills....I put the original inks in a box for emergencies). But since I needed to also have a 4+1 purple body, I also treated myself to the Uni Jetstream. Sort of loving this one too. Now to decide which to carry in my Hobo and which to carry in my bag. Decisions, decisions.
I envy your dilemma. I've been thinking about the Uni Jetstream, as well. But for now, I'm happy with the Dr. Grip. I'm glad you're loving it (I stored my originals for emergencies, as well). It's been working great as my Alice planner pen. Thanks for the update and for watching and commenting. :-)
Another very helpful and wonderful video from the Pen Pixie. I went to JetPens this morning and ordered the blue version of the Dr. Grip 4+1 (although the Bordeaux is a truly great color). The Uni Style Fit refills are inexpensive enough to try a couple of different line sizes (.28, .38., .5 and 1.0mm). It is also great to see a good selection of colors - not sure the Baby Pink or Golden Yellow will find their way into my new Dr. Grip. Looking forward to your next review - and your enabling my pen obsession.
I hope you like it! I think you will as long as you got some decent refills. I've been using my consistently since I got it (and for some reason, my Kakuno has become my go-to fountain pen at the moment...). Let me know how you like it. I'm so not surprised you order blue and shun the pink.... Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
Thank you. I'm looking for a Multi-pen with a pencil. Like quality but don't like thick pens. Really appreciate your review. It gave me the info I was looking for.
I bought this pen about a month ago. I use the pencil a lot. I can't find eraser refills except on amazon and ebay for outrageous prices. Do you know of an eraser refill that will fit this pen? That's a huge negative for me!!!!! Thanks for the video!
You're welcome! I'm not sure of Amazon or Ebay prices, but you can buy refills at JetPens - a 5 pack for $1.65. Here is the link: www.jetpens.com/Pilot-HERFNS-10-Ballpoint-Multi-Pen-Eraser-Refill-Pack-of-5/pd/3363 I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
The Pilot refills aren't that bad lol. I only wish they'd make a more traditional ballpoint refill that's not one of those "hybrid" inks - they run out of ink too fast, and the refills are relatively pricey.
I agree to most all of that. After running out of the refills I purchased, I put the originals back in; they aren't all bad. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
+Matthew Payawal I'm not sure. They're not listed on the suggested refills page at jetpens.com, nor is the pen listed on the products that are compatible with that refill. I would assume no because of that, but you never know! Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
I'm so glad I sub'ed you awhile back. I had no idea multi pens even existed. I had to cancel an order to jet pens so I could add this pen! Lol Thanks always!
I came across your review and wanted to know overall what you thought about the pilot vs the jetstream. I need multicolor for note taking, but which one do you feel is more well made and easier on the hand when writing for a long time? Thanks.
FastPad Thanks for your question. I'm going to assume you mean the Pilot Dr. Grip Multipen vs. the Jetstream Multipen. The Dr. Grip has really become one of my absolute favorite pens. It's nicely weighted, looks good, and has tons of color combination possibilities. I like that it takes other brands' refills and has a pencil, as well. I find the weight to be pleasant and nicely balanced. My Dr. Grip has four inks and a pencil with eraser included. I purchased a variety of refills and would recommend that to anyone as a nice option. The Jetstream is great, too. The one I have is a basic black plastic with three inks. I keep it in my purse as it's cheap and durable. It's a basic multipen with no frills. It's lightweight, comfortable, and has a nice rubberized grip. I believe more expensive versions of this pen are available. I think both are comfortable for long writing sessions. They've both got a good design and fit well in the hand. You said you would be note taking for long sessions. If you're a student, you may want to consider the Jetstream in case it gets lost or borrowed and never returned. However, I also find I am less likely to lose a nice pen, so maybe that isn't an issue. Honestly, they're both great pens. I would consider how many colors you need. Also, do you need a pencil? Built-in eraser? Do you want to be able to choose from a variety of refills? How much do you want to spend? If you want it all and are cool with spending more, I'd get the Dr. Grip. It comes a range of great colors and finishes and is just a really awesome pen. When you get your pen, please let me know what you decided on and how you like it. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
I would say the pencil mechanism is my least favorite part of the pen, and unless I have no other choice, I will opt to use either a wooden pencil or a Kuru Toga. I think the rest of the pen is solid, but I agree; the pencil mechanism feels cheap. It does work in a pinch, though. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
+Shiguma I haven't used the Coleto Me, so I can't really suggest one over the other; I have a Coleto 5 color multi-pen. If I had to decide between the two I have, I would choose the Dr. Grip every time. The Coleto Me looks really nice, though. I love the color choices. You could remove the grip from the Dr. Grip, but I'm not sure what you would put in its place. If you already know don't like the grip, I would probably advise against buying it because you already know you won't enjoy it. I'd go for the Coleto Me based on that. And if you get one, please let me know how you like it. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
+Jonny X Yes, quite often, in fact! It still looks like the day I got it. It holds up extremely well. My grip shows no wear at all. Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
I don't have a Uni Style. I just have a Uni Jetstream 3 multi pen that came with red, black, and blue. It's refillable. When thinking of those two (as well as thinking of the Coleto and Zebra Prefill), I would go with the Dr. Grip every time. It's just a nicer pen than all of them, overall. And, the fact that so many refills fit in the Dr. Grip makes it a winner for me. I have the Uni Jetstream refills in my Dr. Grip, and they work great. If you like the feel of the Dr. Grip (and it's not for everyone), I would absolutely recommend it and suggest you buy refills that you want (like the Jetstream refills). The ink that came with it wasn't good, but the pen itself is great. I love mine and use it everyday. I try to rotate through my pens so they all get used, but this one has a permanent spot atop my desk. I hope that helps. Let me know what you get and how you like it! Thanks for your question and for watching. :-)
The Pen Pixie I took your advice and ordered the Dr. Grip but also ordered a Jetstream (only because I was able to get it in purple). I also ordered a few refills that will fit both. I'll let you know my reaction once I get them. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!
Ok, so I dig the versatility of being about to personalize it with other refills and what have you, but the thing gets a knock because it doesn't offer a completely quality product out of the package. If the initial ink is substandard, they know it. So they're double dipping you right off the bat. It's just a drag when a company doesn't want to develop a loyal user group based on a completely quality product. BUT I like the Bordeaux. That's sexy as fuck.
It is, indeed, a sexy beast. We know we have a problem when we feel pens as are sexy... And I agree with you on the poor ink quality. You're right - the issue should be addressed, and we all know that Pilot can put out a quality ink in other pens, so it should happen in this one. I went for it because I love the Dr. Grip body, but you're right (especially for $16.50). Thanks for commenting and watching. :-)
Multipens ... groan: I still haven't come to a decision. This does look like a nice durable one - seemingly not readily available in the UK of course - and the easy mixing and matching of refills is a big plus point. On the other hand there are the upmarket Coletos with the option of multiple pencil mechanisms ... erk!
Yes, I've considered those. I just know out of all the multi-pens I have - Dr. Grip, Jetstream, Coleto, Zebra - the Coleto is my least favorite. Maybe an upgraded body style would make the pen better by making it feel more durable, but then it only takes Coleto refills. If you need a pen mule, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm happy to stationery run. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
Do you know if the pencil part can be removed? I need a 5 barrel pen with a grip but they don't make any that I can find. If I could mod this, that would be awesome!
I tried to remove it, but I don't think so. I think that's why they refer to it as the 4+1: 4 inks and a pencil. Good luck in your search, and thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
Just push the clip all the way down to where it will advance the lead, take a piece of lead, and load it in through the metal tip. :-) Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
Likely. You can go to jetpens.com and find this (or any) multi-pen. On the description page, you will find a link to compatible refills. Click that, and it will take you to a page with every refill that will work with that pen - different sizes, brands, colors, ink types, etc. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
The silver section under the grip is metal. The burgundy part is plastic. This is definitely a heavier pen despite part of it being plastic. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
Hm, I feel like I have done a video on that pen. I can't remember right now. I know I've done one on an Acroball, for sure. I'll have to look into that; thank you for the suggestion. And thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
Aw. Thank you for your comment. I appreciate that. If I'm being totally honest, it's a matter of finances. I can't really afford to splurge on pens anymore. If I could, I definitely would. I miss making them. Thank you for watching and commenting. :-)
i normally just troll on youtube, but I think I am in love with you. I am going to buy this pen. question, why did you get the pilot acro blue instead of the uni blue for .7?
bruceleehiiiyaaa Lol! I'm flattered. Thank you. This is an awesome pen. In fact, I just used it about two minutes ago. I still love it. I hope you will, too! When I ordered the refills, I knew I liked the Uni and Pilot Acro inks and wanted a variety of colors and line widths. I'm happy with what I've got and have no complaints about either brand of ink; they both work well. (Just note, the Acroball is a hybrid ballpoint ink and the Uni is a gel. The inks are different but both good.)If you do get the pen, please let me know what you get and how you like it. And thanks for watching and commenting. :-)

The Pen Pixie Hey pen babe m'lady, so I got the pen. what's weird is that it come preloaded with BVRF-8F blue, green, red, and black. Did yours come with that too?

Would you say the grip is as squishy as the dr grip ballpoint pen? If it's not that squishy and soft I don't want it
Hi I have a question, is it possible to take a Dr grip 0.9 mechanical pencil and switch it with 0.5 in the multi purpose pen
I'm not sure. I would check www.jetpens.com. Look up the pencil and check what refills are recommended.

Try the dr grip gel and use pilot precise v7 refill
How do you refill the pencil
How does it compare to the Jetstream 4&1?
Too bad the lead isn't a 0.7 mm or 0.9
Thank you :)
They must have fixed them from when this movie was made cuz I’ve been using it for 3-4 months and none of this blobbiness I’m hearing about
Oh! That's excellent! It's such a nice pen, and now it has good ink to match!
Thank you for watching and commenting. :-)

You're welcome! I'm not sure of Amazon or Ebay prices, but you can buy refills at JetPens - a 5 pack for $1.65. Here is the link: www.jetpens.com/Pilot-HERFNS-10-Ballpoint-Multi-Pen-Eraser-Refill-Pack-of-5/pd/3363
I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hi! Just wondering if this pen takes Zebra SK ballpoint refills. The gel refills for this pen can get quite expensive and they don't last long :(
+Matthew Payawal I'm not sure. They're not listed on the suggested refills page at jetpens.com, nor is the pen listed on the products that are compatible with that refill. I would assume no because of that, but you never know!

I'm so glad I sub'ed you awhile back. I had no idea multi pens even existed. I had to cancel an order to jet pens so I could add this pen! Lol Thanks always!
HA! I love it! That's awesome! Please let me know what you think of it.

Pilot 4+1 pencil mechanism is garbage. My hand hits the clip and the pencil will retract mid writing. Would you agree?
I would say the pencil mechanism is my least favorite part of the pen, and unless I have no other choice, I will opt to use either a wooden pencil or a Kuru Toga. I think the rest of the pen is solid, but I agree; the pencil mechanism feels cheap. It does work in a pinch, though.

What would you choose between this pen and the coleto me? the only issue I have with Dr grip is the grip itself, I wonder if it is replaceable?
+Shiguma I haven't used the Coleto Me, so I can't really suggest one over the other; I have a Coleto 5 color multi-pen. If I had to decide between the two I have, I would choose the Dr. Grip every time. The Coleto Me looks really nice, though. I love the color choices.
You could remove the grip from the Dr. Grip, but I'm not sure what you would put in its place. If you already know don't like the grip, I would probably advise against buying it because you already know you won't enjoy it. I'd go for the Coleto Me based on that. And if you get one, please let me know how you like it.

I feel like they changed the ink now. I have had mine for 2 months now and it doesn't skip or blob.
Good to know. I will definitely check those out. I need to refill my bordeaux. I appreciate the tip!

great review, couldn’t figure out the pencil at first. thank you
You're welcome, and thank you.
And thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
do you use this as your go to pen? I'd like to know how the grip stands the test of time
+Jonny X Yes, quite often, in fact! It still looks like the day I got it. It holds up extremely well. My grip shows no wear at all.

Ni video, I like how you do talk. You have a new subscriber 👍
Awesome, thank you!

I'm considering a new multi pen. I also want the 4+1 type....how does the Dr. Grip compare with your Uni Style? I'm deciding between the two. Thanks!

Thanks for responding. ;)

Aw, thanks. :)
Very nice and informative review. New subbie!

I have one...Yes, you can remove the pencil component and replace it with a pen refill to make it into a 5 color pen.
How to refill the mechanical pencil part? 😊
Just push the clip all the way down to where it will advance the lead, take a piece of lead, and load it in through the metal tip. :-)
Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
Would a 1.0 mm refill fit in the multi pen?
Great review. Thank you for taking the time to post it here.
Thanks and you're welcome. I appreciate you watching and commenting. :-)
Is the pen metal? I like heaver pens and the only z-grip I had was plastic~
Thanks~~
The silver section under the grip is metal. The burgundy part is plastic. This is definitely a heavier pen despite part of it being plastic.
I hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
Thanks so much, I dunno why but I cant stand light pens so i might just pick this one up!
i want you to do a video review of a pilot acroball pens in assorted colors these are the greateast pilot gel pens they write excellent
Hm, I feel like I have done a video on that pen. I can't remember right now. I know I've done one on an Acroball, for sure. I'll have to look into that; thank you for the suggestion.
And thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
you feel that way i never seen your pilot acroball video refill before and your welcome
I miss your pen reviews :-)
I am going to buy this pen. question, why did you get the pilot acro blue instead of the uni blue for .7?
also, m'lady
bruceleehiiiyaaa Lol! :-)

Hey pen babe m'lady, so I got the pen. what's weird is that it come preloaded with BVRF-8F blue, green, red, and black. Did yours come with that too?
Aside from the dirty fingernails, awesome vid :D
Okay? Thanks.
