    If I were you, I would drill a small hole (about 8-9mm) in the lowest pipe of the exhaust, weld on small 8mm nut on that hole, screw on the screw with copper washer and what it will do, you won't have to flip your bike over to drain the exhaust system. You just undo the screw and all the water will come out completely. Cause the exhaust is going upwards, so even if you flip it over it won't drain completely before you start the engine. Good video by the way exhaust sound mint!

    Was on a ride in Baja where one of three riders lost control of his KTM 2007 525 along the beach. Bike ended up completely submerged in the surf for over 10 minutes as the tide came in and the sun going down. To make a long story short, 5 hours later we got the bike fired up again after pushing it up a steep cliff, towing it with another bike to a place where we could work on it. Rinsed it off with fresh water, removed the spark plug, exhaust, drained the carb, squeezed out the water from the air filter, doused everything with WD40. Bump started it after 10 attempts. Took about 10 minutes to get a smooth idle and crips throttle response. Nutz.

    honestly I would have been shitting myself that the bike would have been hydrolocked, but I guess if you turned it off before it sucked up any water you would have been fine. Great to see another vid from you, I had to go back and check to see if there were any others I missed :-)

  • @JoeJoeMoto
    @JoeJoeMoto 8 років тому +6

    Good job on getting it going again. I know it's a huge job, but next time, you should really pull both plugs and crank it over with no plugs in before even thinking about starting it.

    • @Ausmodica
      @Ausmodica  8 років тому +1

      +JoeJoe Moto Yeah, that's what I was thinking at the time, but +Nerb1 said it was quite painful to get to the sparkies. I imagine a hydrolocked engine would be even more painful though.

    • @SnoopyDoofy
      @SnoopyDoofy 8 років тому

      +Ausmodica Definitely, but it didn't suck water in through the intake, it was just the exhaust that got submerged. If this had been a boxer however...
      Also, I know he said "any sort of knot does it" but 2 overhand knots are rarely a good idea. I like the 'cow hitch' (basically the same as what you did with the loop strap from the 4x4) for something like this, easy to make and easy to seperate and pretty secure when tension is kept.

    • @Nerb1
      @Nerb1 8 років тому +3

      It wouldnt have mattered if it was hydrolocked. You cant bend conrods with the starter motor. The problem is if it hydrolocks while running.

    • @JoeJoeMoto
      @JoeJoeMoto 8 років тому

      +Nerb1 That's a big call. I wouldn't want to test that theory out. Possibility of bending the rod, damaging valves etc. I would prefer to get the plug out and pump it out first.

    • @LittleSickFish
      @LittleSickFish 8 років тому

      +JoeJoe Moto In that case: Wouldn't it be necessary to clean the intake, pistons and the valves from mud? I assume the specks of dirt could do some serious damage too? I mean if it was hydrolocked.. thanks.

  • @LitoGeorge
    @LitoGeorge 6 років тому

    Doesn't matter if the exhaust is completely submerged. Only matters if the air intake sucks in water. Then you got to remove the spark plugs and then crank. Reinstall and you're golden. Did this countless times on my big Katoom. (And smaller ones, even past the air box intake, which was a minor miracle)

      The internet is at a single time; a fickle bitch, hellbent on destroying any differences in society, but also the wonderful, rich tapestry of opinions which foster creation and positivity. Who would have though that the only thing capable of drawing out this paradox, would be a ktm1190 and a puddle of water?

    I would have tried to pull with the rope attached to the upper side of the front rim+tire, it gives you twice the traction, while it helps to pull the bike upwards at the same time instead of dragging it horizontally. This is the best place to grab by hand when stuck!
    BTW I wish I had drilled a hole in the exhaust collector at its lowest point on my bike (with a soldered nut so I it can be closed with a screw). It would have been very useful in my trip to Iceland! ;)
