16:51 The potato was not accidentally in the salad dressing. This was a typical Bavarian potato salad with a vinegar dressing. The restaurant just put the mixed green salad on top of it. You can get this potato salad as a separate side dish - without the mixed salad on top. Even better, IMHO is the Swabian potato salad from the neighboring state of Baden-Württemberg - also with vinegar-based dressing. Especially when it is still a bit warm, from the freshly cooked potatoes which have soaked some time in the dressing. By the way, there is a sharp dividing line running through Germany about the "correct/best" potato salad. In the northern states, potato salad is traditionally dressed with mayonnaise. In the south with vinegar. As a Southern German, I can't do anything with the mayonnaise version, the Northern Germans usually feel the same way about the vinegar-based dressing.
Wow!! We never knew that! In the States, we also have a big philosophical potato debate: potato salad with mayonnaise vs potato salad with mustard. I will honestly say that I (Matt) am a bit of pig so I am happy to have either! Also, as food lover, I am happy to be in such a diverse country with food as rich in flavor as it’s history! Thank you so much for the comment! 🤙🏽❤️
We did have a ton of fun!! So much so we want to go back and experience it in the summer to see how it looks and all the sights that were closed due to COVID. Bavaria is beautiful!
What an adorable family and an excellent video too. This is one of the places that we plan on going to in 2023. Liked and subscribed also. Love to see a Brother AND Sister in Arms enjoying their downtime so well;) keep up the great job and we’ll keep watching too.
hello calvonians, or should i say hallo :) really nice watching your clips coming and enjoying your time here in germany. if you are still in garmisch, i can highly recommend the little but beautiful town of "mittenwald" a few miles further south of garmisch, situated next to the austrian border. saw that in a youtube video of an english couple living in munich that love and travel a lot down to garmisch. in their personal rating they happen to rate mittenwald even above garmisch. it is not that far, something like 15 miles or less but since it is going "deeper" into the alps it is even more scenic and fairytalish. wish you and your familiy all the best and a merry christmas.
Awww man we aren’t there anymore😥. It was such a lovely scenic trip. We will be going back in the summer and will definitely stop to check out mittenwald. We love the small “fairytown” small towns/villages here. Please keep the tips coming and thanks for watching!
New subscriber here. This was an awesome family video and I enjoyed watching it. I love staying at the Edelweiss as it is so beautiful. I was last there in July 2021 and I will be returning to the Edelweiss in the very near future. I am looking forward to checking out more and more of your content. BTW, Dues, $90.00? lol lol. I also have a UA-cam channel in reference to Germany and my travels. I am always looking forward to my next adventure in a place where I had spent six years (total) of my life.
Let me explain the $90! (Lol) we’ve only been on station since July and had no idea there was an exchange on location! Also, I would have gone off base but I had already been enjoying the day’s festivities! It was an awesome time and we share the desire to return a few more times… hopefully we can make that happen but it seems COVID may be only getting more restrictive. We will keep our eyes on your videos too! ❤️
I like the positive vibe of the videos. This is one of the best so far. At 1:11 I first thought you were in the Shining Hotel 😁 I've never been to Garmisch, but the hotel and the place seem to be very well equipped for American and International visitors. By the way, your son is always smiling, he has a good attitude towards life!
Hey StarSeed 80…thanks for the compliment🥰! I am trying to get better with each Vlog! Cam loves family trips and was so excited this one required a hotel stay! He is learning German in school and on our app and he can understand short conversations now (kids learn so quick)! Anyways thank you for your comment and for watching!
10:22 Moin 😊 (It is a northern German reply to the "Hallo") Btw your pronounciation of Partenkirchen was good but the pronounciation of your sons "hallo" was perfect.

We love it here and will definitely take all of the positive experiences we have had with us back to the USA. We plan on doing more active things as the children get older since we are going to be here for 4 years😀. Thank you for watching!
Is your husband part of the Air Force or Army in Kaiserslautern Ramstein? because the unit assigned to this base is actually the 7th army which advanced from Southern France Marcy operation Dragoon all the way to Bavaria Garmisch & Austria Innsbruck. Some of the soldiers assigned to your end up driving towards your base. Have you tried some of the local food here and restaurants might be selling Austrian dishes because you are only 15 minutes away from the Austrian border eventually reaching Innsbruck
He is Air Force. We wanted to go to Austria while we were there since it was so close, but for right now it is in the “red”. Meaning if you go there you have to quarantine when you get back…and we could not afford to do so. We didn’t see any Austrian food in town. But when we go back in the summer we hope to go to Austria and will definitely grab a bite if so!

Do you know the official site for this hotel? I’m a U.S. Air Force civilian and would love to stay here on my visit to Germany this winter.
