    I'm blown away... What an unexpected result from a pipe organ. Thanks for a marvelous, spellbinding performance.

    This sounds truly amazing!! I wonder how the GR-Mega will be after about 7 years from this one? But it doesn't take away the results here absolutely gorgeous!!

    As a new owner of a GR1 - and running it through a microcosm, I’m always interested in other pedal ideas so consider me ‘intrigued’ ….. excellent content as usual and look forward to more GR1 🙏

    So lush. Perfect music for the work tasks I've got in front of me today. It's a shame about the H4 and the noise though -- maybe you can revisit and do it again with the H6? This is seriously filmscore-esque. Absolutely beautiful.

      Agreed! I tried to choose stops that would allow the GR-1 some space in the mids. Mixing on the fly as it were 😂

    I own one too, it is a great device perfect for soundscapes and with a simple soundcard, mixer and if needed a microphone , you can use any soundsource. The organ is a magnificent one. Really creative and inspiring.

    I was really excited about the GR1 when it was first announced, but the lack of any analog audio inputs was a deal-breaker for me. Why they decided to omit something that would make this instrument the ultimate sound processor for live ambient music is completely beyond me. I am holding out for someone who will make that happen.

    • @JamesonNathanJones
      @JamesonNathanJones  2 роки тому +4

      Yeah it’s a definite drawback. Nice that there’s a workaround, but when you’re traveling with a machine you don’t really want to have to bring a dedicated audio interface just for that purpose.

    • @doverbeachxyz
      @doverbeachxyz 2 роки тому +3

      A small audio interface costs 30dollars. I guess they decided to omit because this thought as a an instrument in itself more than a live processor (there are many). Of course It would have been good, but it's not a drawback for me given that there Is nothing like the gr-1 in hardware.

      I think it’s foolish to not have this option on it, but I have a Zoom H5 Recorder that can work as an audio interface. In fact it could be fun to field record with the H5 and port the recordings into the GR-1. Like a working combo. Mine shipped today, and I’m super stoked. So it’s definitely not a deal breaker for me, but I agree it should have jacks for audio in.

    It reminds of a recording from a Steve Reich composition. A vast space, yet clearly defined and musical. The chords at 7min give me goosebumps. Such a nice way to mix organic, real life sound sources with granular processing. Thank you very much.

    Great video. I do feel that everything kind of sounds the same using a granular effect like that though.

    • @JamesonNathanJones
      @JamesonNathanJones  2 роки тому

      Thanks! I actually think granular is all about the source. Sounds that change over time tend to work best - like sounds that have more distinct transients and a natural decay. The organ is not the most expressive of instruments without working at it a bit. There were still some nice sweet spots to be found in the phrases that had more movement though.

    Haha, another video where we can see you go through waves of emotions xD
    The end result is really nice, the workaround with the gr1 is a bit of a letdown.
    How does this beat the iridium you sold in what it does?
    Nice video again, I can feel you're having a good time - despite hum and trucks ;)
    Cheers

    • @JamesonNathanJones
      @JamesonNathanJones  2 роки тому

      It’s always a struggle it seems. Ha
      It’s dedicated to granular, so there is more control over those parameters on the panel, though there aren’t as many modulators as Iridium. The ability to go 4 part multi-timbral is really nice. Of course Iridium can do a lot more in terms of synthesis, but you do pay for it with the price.

    • @TheSoulSynthesis
      @TheSoulSynthesis 2 роки тому

      @@JamesonNathanJones yeah I can see that you can get some sort of option paralysis with the iridium since it's not dedicated to one form of synthesis. It still looks like a sound design monstrosity and will live on my wishlist for a long time 😅

      I ran into some cpu spikes when working with multiple samples at high density. Between that and a clunky menu system I’m not sure I’d want to rely on it in a live setting.

    How do you find the gr1 compared to the Iridium for soundscapes/background noisy drones?

    • @JamesonNathanJones
      @JamesonNathanJones  2 роки тому +1

      GR-1 is a granular only machine, where the Iridium can do so many things all at once. I feel like the GR-1 is more immediate for granular textures, but there’s much more modulation capabilities and depth to Iridium.

  • @endermusica
    @endermusica Рік тому

    At the same time it's beautiful but the result sounds very much like granular synthesis sound. It feels like the source is not as important. You always get that granular texture.

    • @JamesonNathanJones
      @JamesonNathanJones  Рік тому

      I actually think the source is the most important thing. The issue with the organ is that it sustains at a constant level, so it ends up sounding similar to a synth pad after processing (but with wind noise that I really like). I've found granular works best with a sample with more transients so that the grains are more varied.

  • @vincentprimault4380
    @vincentprimault4380 2 роки тому

    The GR1 may handle inputs in realtime or you have to record samples before ?

    • @JamesonNathanJones
      @JamesonNathanJones  2 роки тому

      It will record loops in real time, but since there are no onboard inputs, you have to use a class compliant audio interface to do so. The one I was using was introducing too much noise into the recording, so I had to shift gears and use my own pre-loaded samples in order to finish the video.
