Urbex | Exploring the "Slave" Caves in Park City, Kentucky

  • Not much is known about the so called "Slave Caves" in Park City, Kentucky. They are located just inside the perimeter of Mammoth Cave National Park. Perhaps they were a destination of safety and shelfter for fleeing slaves on the Underground Railroad. Maybe they were discovered by a local enslaved person. If anyone knows more about the history of the caves, please leave a comment.
    One of the caves, the larger one, is blocked off and cant be entered. I was a bit disappointed to see this, but I imagine the cave is extensive, and potentially dangerous. The smaller cave has stairs carved into the rock, leading down into a very small chamber. There is an tiny opening in the back that could possible lead to more cave.
