24 Game Developers Make a Game - (GMTK Game Jam 2023)

- This weekend me and 23 other developers got together to create a game in only 48 hours for the annual GMTK game jam.
Everybody got assigned different roles from programmers, artists, animators, designers, audio etc. And we needed to join forces together to create the BEST game out these or simply just have fun lol
We ended up creating a overcooked style horror game where you play as an old lady ghost who is trying to prevent ghost hunters from finding out she's real. As you play objects around the house will start acting haunted, which you have to fix! Can you prevent the hunters from finding out until the end of the night or not ?
Play the game here:

Thanks for taking part - all of you!
107 likes and no comments. Let me fix that
Awesome video. Also you probably saved us on multiple occasions, Zyger! :D
Jeez this is amazing! Y'all should form a studio or something, this is so good in such a short time
Awesome! I can't stress it enough but thank you too for being part of our group, you're awesome!
Thanks for joining us! Glad I could be of assistance :)
it was alot of fun to work with you on this @zyger! What a wild ride.
Likewise! I really enjoyed working together and learning from you. Thanks for everything
Pretty cool to see how the vision cone works! It was amazing that you whipped it up so fast xD
Thanks for helping us out on the programming team!!
It's been a real honor to have you in our team, Zyger :)
Also, what a fantastic video! It's so fascinating to see how this went from other peoples' perspectives and you actually taught me a lot about how our game works behind the scenes, since I had more of a general overview but less knowledge of the technical details.
Would always love to work together again. Cheers!
its been an honour working with you too. Thank you for the kind words and for inviting me. I really appreciate it and had a lot of fun!
This looks amazing! I love how the scope of your games has been growing over the years, it's amazing what you can do as part of a team in 48 hours!
Must have been a nightmare organising this but the game turned out really well! I enjoyed it when I played.
What a great showcase! I like how you explained how you solved your puzzles! Thank you for your contribution, and for the lovely comments on the characters.
this could be a full game, the loop is really fun and i can image a lot more to do, different ghost hunter, haunted items that need more than one step to "repair" ( bring Doll back into her Dollhouse)
you all should stick with it, its great !
I think reversing the team roles would have matched the theme quite well :P
What a fantastically made video. So interesting to see the other departments processes that took place in parallel. Especially the programming and systems part. You guys did an amazing job! And I really like that you're showing appreciation for the 3d art in a programming focused video!
I've seen a few videos about this theme and this has got to be my favorite! Good job!
Great work! Can't wait to play it
Looks sick. Gonna try it out soon.
I really like your idea-production method for your large team. I will definitely try this in my uni group game dev assignments
Awesome video Zyger! Was a great project :)
Awesome game! It's insane how high quality the game is after just 2 days. Having 24 people really helps for polish!
Nice work guys it turned out great! How did you get the curve on the end of the vision cone using the triangle method?
Amazing video! 24 people working together on a GMTK jam has to be some sort of record! The game looks amazing too! How many merge conflicts did you get during this?
hey thank you. Surprisingly not to many. I ended up causing like 2 and my git did break a few times but we managed to solve a lot of issues by using additive scenes. and making sure only 1 person was working on a scene/object at the same time.
Omg that video is very well done I am surprised I haven’t gotten more views than that❤
Oh my god i will love this as a actual game it looks amazing!😌 The art style the gameplay can you guys work on this mor😊👍 also love your work💖
Edit i meant more not mor
Ya guys should finish it, in two days it looks this good, add stuff, like mods of play, maybe levels, puzzles, multiplayer?, and sell it, I'll buy :v
its kind of surreal hearing my best friend nolram just casually mentioned like that on such a big team haha
My team made "Exorcise me father" for the jam. It is pretty much the exact same game but made by less people 🤣
ONLY 48 HOURS?!
Want to be on my game jams team? I'm looking to get into game design and hope to get involved in any upcoming online game jams.
About me: I'm a UX designer and ex-software developer. I've participated in web Hackathons and similar competitions in NYC, LA, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Kuala Lumpur. I have worked on games for marketing for large companies (Chevrolet and Eaton) and also created my own 4-level 2D game back in 2014 which I was asked to demo at the NYC Games Forum at Microsoft Headquarters. This would be my first game jam so I'd love to join with someone that has experience. Also, I am a rusty coder so I'd love to have some strong developers on the project. Let's team up and find some jams to win!
Nice

are you allowed to have multiple devs?
Which engine did you use?
I really want to start making games, but I don't know where to start BTW
Looks like Unity. Doesn't really matter which engine you choose. What matters is that you just start. Go for it!
I used unity. :))
Uk forever

That's why GMTK Jam is just ridiculous right now. It's not a place to new developers connect to each other and making innovative stuff anymore.
It's just a time/place for influencers show of their skills and already made networking.
24 people is fair game, but AI is not... xD
I think you missed the point here. Even as 24 developers we didn't even place, because shocker here working with 24 people in only 48 hours is actually more hard than doing it alone or in a small group. And the difference is that A.I usually steals peoples work. Specifically, the A.Is that generate art, which uses other people's work without their knowledge and permission. Besides the point of these game jams is to learn and make something; its very hard to do that when your copying code that an A.I wrote for you. And actually a lot of new developers connect, join teams and even place or win. The GMTK discord is a good place to do that.
@@ZygerGFX you just reforced my point that jam is not about learning how to get things done ininovative ways anymore, but just to show of.. lol
"Promo sm" 🤤
