To me is like a piece of music, is an expression of feeling without words.

As an artist who has worked in both abstract and representational styles, I don't get the 'either/or' attitude. Abstraction is one way to get people to - maybe - LOOK at the image, what is in front of them, and to THINK about it (if only to ask 'What is it?')..
Representational images are typically pigeonholed as quickly as the viewer can identify the 'subject'. Not a Chuck Close fan, but as he says, abstraction allows the artist freedom from the context of subject,

I'd argue that it applies to any and all realms you believe in.
I agree with you that life is the struggle between getting the balance between good and evil. I firmly believe in The whole yin-yang philosophy.
Also I never claimed time was "invented" infact I didn't even mention time. That is a whole nother nut-shell!
Plus there isn't enough space for me to reply to your time comment. ;)

@kuroshinsen - Just because we do not understand something, it does not mean that it is 'nonsensical'.
You and/or your art may not make sense to another... but this is no reason not to make art, or to make yourself and your life reflect what is important, or sensible, to you.

@notandywarhol: Just because you're born in a particular country doesn't necessarily mean you will adopt the accent of that country. Being brought up in a different geographic location is a possibility!

It would be effective to have some of Mr. Scully's artwork displayed as a part of this video. Maybe mostly his artwork with a voice over, a little studio footage and just a few moments of the artist sitting and speaking...what he's saying is really good, but seems out of context!

Cubism is to art as Intelligent Design is to critical scientific analysis. Taking pictures of boarded-up doors as a supplement does not make him creative or avant-garde, either. Having taken a look at the corpus of Scully's works, I simply get no impression that he's invested any emotion into his work and seems to be taking all contemporary art critics on some post-modernist dick-wagging about the definition of "abstract."

I'm going to assume your apology as genuinly sincere. Don't worry, I just like to talk about things. I guess sometimes opinions just repel.
    Also he's my brother =]

"abstract" art is a euphemism for the artist can't do art.

What he said deserves neither ridicule nor an explanation. The man is talking about what draws him to abstraction, its particular advantage over a realism.

What a load of cobblers. Scully obviously thinks Abstract art can present the viewer with an experience that transcends the limitations of a figurative artist who merely wants to show what he/she is depicting. So let's say, a Titian, Turner, Van Eyck, Morandi etc fail to achieve what some stripes ( for example) can do? Pah!....

    • @superrubble7117
      @superrubble7117 3 роки тому

Perhaps. For me, Scully’s work is not transcendent. Instead, his work is full of references to past artists’ work. It is resplendent with its lack of originality.

It's what you make of it. All artist have there individual interpretation!!! That's why all of our thumbs prints are different. That's what makes us unique as artist we are one of a kind. So get over the harsh words!!! And look in the mirror !!!

Abstract is everything but no time. It should never
    express time. Am I right?

I used to be anti-abstract art. Then I became more curious about it, got sick of trying to just reproduce what was already in a photo or sitting right in front of me, and actually, the advent of cameras on our phones and the innendation of pictures everywhere capturing everything made the thought of trying to paint them not as exciting. Then I tried a few what I might call "stream of conciousness" paintings, very impulsive and reactionary type work, and it was very invigorating and very freeing. I was astounded that I felt the emotions that I did, considering for years I had the feeling that abstract art was pretencious and overrated. And maybe some of it is, but for me personally I don't give a shit anymore what people think if they see something I've done that seems "easy, or lacking in talent". True artists that have something to convey and say through their works are not talentless or frauds...I've come to realize that now. Spotting it has also become quite easy. I once thought "anybody can do that", but found out that is not entirely true, not in the slightest. For any who find the concept of abstract art nauseating and stupid, I would suggest getting an image in your mind and see if you can produce it within a certain amount of time, just going with the flow and slopping paint around to get that image in your head onto canvas but without restrictions of making things realistic or any of that. It's really quite fun.
