In an exclusive interview with BBC Newsnight, Bridget Riley, one of the UK's most renowned artists, has told Kirsty Wark, " I held a mirror up to human nature and reported faithfully."
Describing art and how it has contributed to her understanding of the world, Riley says artists have "borne witness" to society's "changing circumstances and events, to horrors and as well as to wonders."
As one of the most significant artists of the 20th and 21st century, 90-year-old Riley says she's "hoping" her work has made a contribution to "order, stability and the joy of living."

Not a 'Reilly, Ace of Spies'.
Human nature is selfish yet we are witnessing brave Acts repeatedly maybe something is evolving here
No actually proven to be exactly the opposite.
Cooperation obtains our specie it's greatest survival optimum.
Our biggest mistake has been cooperating with neoliberalism at all.
adobe illustrator is cool
I am particularly partial to crisp, clean art like op-art and De Stijl. They make for wonderful desktop wallpaper. 👍

Word pics black white
First
She speaks of colour and nature yet much of her work is black and white? Past footage such as 3:00 seem easier on the eye than modern/current pictures for some reason.
One of her practices was creating colour where there was none. You have to see these in person to experience this, but she indeed suggests colour with just black and white.
wrapping paper.
It is art that is so dumbed down it doesn't rate being called art. Design yes. But that is all.
She has a lot of male energy, without being LGBTQ, what an interesting person!
What a stupid, tone-deaf comment.
Actually she doesn't.
Rubbish. Talk sense.
Wow, face pumping with whole lot of testosterone!!
???? Where??? It's clearly a lady.
She's afraid of flowers. Poor girl.
Get therapy for your phobia.
From Picasso to this sht!!
Picasso was over rated too.
@@public.public agreed however I was at the palace viewing some of Rembrandts work…….his work looks like photographs! (True story) yes Picasso was a poor choice it you get my drift! From the buildings and furniture to music (Jz? “Snoop” dog) and art, NOTHING we produce now is the same standard as 100+ years ago! It’s a misconception to think we are getting better, we are heading for the days of cave men only this time with no skills at all! Most couldn’t erect a tent let alone live in the wild without a button to press for their needs
human nature is selfish
Garbage content from BBC, as usual.
What a load of bollocks.
@@0scartheCat Modern art is to the human condition what philosophy is to science. An interesting diversion but no value in and of itself.
@@ezicarus8216 Sorry friend, the emperor really does have no clothes. Pretending otherwise doesnt make reality any different.
