Take a deep breath and take stock of what you have and what you want to finish. You inspire a lot of people including myself - thanks to your 'Layout for a Beginner' series i watched over lockdown I have started my first proper layout which is now electrically complete and just waiting for scenery! Its all part of the process.
Thanks for the update this layout continues to inspire me to carry on with my own 8x4 fictional 00 layout, I suffer from the same space prob,em as we live in a one bedroom flat. My layout shares my sons garage along with his own and his home made 'pub' I would like my own spare room but at 73 a move is unlikely so keep up the good work and I will continue gaining inspiration from your back catalogue. All the best Andy.
Hi mate, looks like you’re at a bit of a complex junction with a signal failure 😉 In terms of the actual railway, the idea of doing Weybourne, I totally get that. Wonderful little station with a great little model railway of its own and a frighteningly tempting second hand stall! 🤓 Lovely station to base a model on so go for it! 👍 As for the current quandary: I honestly think if you pull out everything that is loose and rearrange, you’ll be amazed how much you can refit into the same space. My missus calls me ‘Tetris Tim’ as I am well versed in filling finite holes with the maximum ‘stuff’. My Big Yellow storage is almost worthy of a place at Tate Modern 🤣😂😅 Mor seriously, maybe use those boards to create a purpose built dedicated work space that both you and Doug can use? That structure has loads of windows thus great light (I’m guessing that is the draw) so if you can design something using the board you’ve got and screw/nail/bolt it all together you’ll have an area you can both utilise as you need it 🤔 Obviously I don’t know the practicalities of it, but you might well be able to utilise that board rather than just discard it. Also, maybe utilise the roof of the other building by building a bracket or ceiling shelf (hope that makes sense) so you are using what is otherwise unused space. My garden layout when dismantled lives in the roof of my 6’x6’ shed on specially made and positioned battens, so it is out of the way and there’s no risk of stuff falling on it or accidentally breaking it. 👍 Cheers fella, hope you manage to work something out 👍🍀☕️🫖
It’s always a struggle to find space. Right now I’m trying to find enough space to have a loop of track with decent radii so I can work on the old die cast locomotives I’ve accumulated.
I know where you're at. In my basement room, I have everything from N scale to O scale. I really need to focus on what I'm interested in most and get rid of the rest.
I know this kind of problem, I have zero space in my apartment, and I have to conceive a layout you can dismantle easily to store atop some shelves while not in use. I think I have found the right formula, work in progress this summer...
I know the feeling when it comes to fighting for space. I've had intentions to build a new layout up in the attic however despite having pretty much everything planned in terms of layout and what I want where I haven't even gotten around to building any boards yet because there's just too much stuff in the way at present. Though, to be honest, even if there was room I don't know how soon anything would get done. Dad still works a full time job (despite being over 70) so he doesn't get a lot of spare time and I'm useless with tools and, as Clarkson would put it, allergic to manual labour 😅
Wow looks like my shed. Full of discarded rubbish from the house. I have been considering a garden railway for running bigger express type loco's as i have decided my current layout is ideal for smaller branchline/industrial loco's but larger ones do tend to struggle on it.
Looks like the spare timber needs to go as a minimum. You only need it when you have time and space to build the next layout, which you don't seem to have space for. Sacrifices will have to be made 🙄 Good luck deciding. Mon from Monsville Railways
My house is jam packed at the moment and while i'd like a model railway its just not an option. However, one day I will and your videos will to make it happen on a budget. Oh how I weep at night for those poor Hornby shareholders.
A lesson on basic economics - unlimited demand (space) limited supply (space). I’ve had to wrestle with how big of a layout can I build? Do I only build portable size layouts? Perhaps you can find a wife for Doug and he can move out and give his space back 😅 Enjoy your decision journey 😊
The loft is also somewhat cluttered. I have decided to have a reality check and sell some layouts, locos and rolling stock and focus a bit on what I really need/want
Hi I doing my railway layout in n scale but as I've only got one good eye due to my cataract surgery do you think 00 scale train layout is better for me as iam likeing your 00 scale that use to have the red cardboard.let me know
Almost as bad as my shed. What is needed is another shed. I suggest banning all non model railway items from the shed as well. Or lean the wood up against the shed wall outside with a tarp over it
Ah if it helps I've got a 3x3 log cabin from tuin, originally intended just for work office but it now has my road bike, all my wood offcuts, a oo oval on a terrible base board and now a quite large selection of locos so now barely room to sit at the desk 😊Nothing in reality ever stays how you intend does it? 😂

Thanks Andy, have fun with your layout
Hi Mike and Doug, jeez where do you start? I enjoyed watching that being built and i have faith you will work out which way to turn! :)
Looks like you need another shed.
Not a lot one can say except good luck....I'm sure you'll succeed...

All good ideas thanks

It might be worth looking into N, 009 or TT120 as a gauge as they are pretty much designed for smaller houses and apartments.

We solved the issue with space in the loft, not easy, but couldn't solve the heat/cold issues. I hope you get there eventually lol
@@BudgetModelRailways I’m sorry I have not been watching your videos for months and my model railway build is dormant
@@BudgetModelRailways Our attic is a converted room. The issue is more from having to share it with mom's computer and crafting supplies.

I had the same thought lol

I'm lucky when we moved I claimed 1 of our large reception rooms it was a condition with the wife when we moved😊

Lol
Looks Like my trainroom!!!

Its a fine divide between a reclaim salvage yard and council tip. 😊
In 5 or 10 years what is your plan? Start now.
It's also a fine line between sorted and tidy, and a tidy desk is the sign of a sick mind lol
Do yourself a favour, bin the wood, clear it out. It will be an exercise in decluttering and will energise you to start afresh.
If you’re wanting to keep it, Can the unused timber be stored in the loft for the moment?
The loft is also somewhat cluttered. I have decided to have a reality check and sell some layouts, locos and rolling stock and focus a bit on what I really need/want

N gauge can be a bit fiddly size and eyesight wise

You need to build a shed for yourself on the layout. Problem solved.
Come to think of it, my place looks similar.
🤠
Just tidy up
Just keep it up buddy, you're gonna have to buy another 🏠............
You don’t need a bigger shed......you need a smaller shed to keep all the junk in ....away from your layout!🚂🚂🚂
Time to declutter! If you haven’t used something in the last 2 years then chuck it out
if its not messy it dosent look worked on:-) my house looks the same everywere and im 50 +
You need 2 sheds! 😂
You have some roof space for storeage
I have used it to store some timber but too much and it shuts out the lights
Me thinks you need a bigger shed 😂😂
Or less layouts!🙂

What a shame it was looking good
