Alif begins with a teacher casually cautioning children as they are set to lose their innocence. Next thing you know, we are kids from a Punathil Kunjabdulla story being catapulted to the good bad and ugly society. Alif represents the moment we started understanding. As we move forward on a set trajectory, we become by absorbing and interpreting.
Like a cat shaking off water, we start to fight Alif as we grow because cats don't like water in the first place. We hate the skewed lenses we were provided with. Then it hits you that you can't disown it, because as you look behind you see your childhood joy and suffering chilling out in the nostalgia mukk. In the end, when you're robbed off your culture and identity, you lay lifeless like a gold fish in bare sand, which is reminiscent of the tragic death of Pookinjeebi in Smarakashilakal.
Dabzee, who gives out Eranholi Moosa on steroids vibe, carry the nostalgic portion of the song, while evocative visuals of canal bunds and alleyways reminds us about a time when we ran on full throttle. SA shoulders the introspective part of the song with a pinch of dejection in his voice that resonates with our generation. find the music video very relevant as it enables cultural exchange due to its honesty and universality. At any rate, this approach will continue to strengthen Kerala's acquired secularist ideals, which is quite unique.
Alif is universal, rooted and poignant. To paraphrase haji Bong Joon-ho, "Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of Malappuram basha, you will be introduced to so many more amazing art works."

This is my pov. Dabzee comes along with his brother/friend? To revisit his life through a delorean lookalike car(Back to the future reference?). Then it shows dabzees life? And then due to the the person whos driving the car with him in the first scene(possibly brother) joins a gang which leads to him getting murdered in the last scene. The music video gives me a lot of kiarastomi vibes too. Definitely one of the best music videos ever released in Kerala ❤
