    I've been watching almost every video you produce on putting. I can honestly say at first blush you think how can I recall all of these tips. My strategy is try one tip and master it. Seems like everything else falls into place once you get one down pat. Beauty of the internet is you can rewatch and fine tune the information. It is work to be good but you have to put the time in. You only cheat yourself if you don't invest in yourself with practice .
    Great video!!

    I never trust my eyes to tell me where my putter face is aimed.
    No matter how I try to position my eyes over the ball, my eyes always "see" that my putter face is aimed several inches left of where it is actually aimed.
    So I use a line on the ball and aim that line at my target. I do this from behind the ball so I can use my binocular vision.
    Then, when I get set up over the ball, I simply square my putter face to the line on the ball and totally disregard what my eyes tell me, because they NEVER tell me the truth. They always tell me I'm aimed left.
    I used to think it was just me with this problem , but I've tested several friends.
    I would aim the line on the ball dead center of the cup with the ball about 4 feet from the hole. I then asked friends to set up over the ball as if they were going to putt the ball.
    I then ask them to tell me where the line on the ball is aimed.
    So far, 4 out of 5 said just outside the left edge. Only 1 said dead center.
    Don't trust your eyes to tell you where the putter is aimed. Trust the line that you carefully aimed from behind the ball. I also verify that the line is aimed where I think it is, by using the putter shaft as a straight edge, like Kevin Na does.
    There is a correct and incorrect way to use the shaft so read up on it. I would go into it but this post is too long already.

    I'm left eye dominant, left handed but putt right handed. I don't have issues with lining up, I pick a spot a foot in front of the ball and putt over it.
    However, big issue is judging distance when side on. I ended up opening my stance and getting both my eyes (and my left eye especially) looking more down the line. Lag putting is now much better 👌

    To avoid parallax error when putting, your eyes must look straight out of your face.
    In other words your pupils are looking out on a line that is basically perpendicular to your face.
    Now keep that principle in mind when you are over your putt and looking down at your target line. Are you looking at the line with your eyes looking straight out of your face or are your eyes looking down your face to see the line?
    If they are not looking straight out of your face at the line but instead looking down your face at the line, you are going to introduce parallex errors into the equation.
    So when over a putt, look straight out of your face, then adjust your head up or down, until you are looking directly at your line.
    This method works regardless of how far or close to the ball you stand.
    Preferably though, it works best when your eyes are directly above the line.
    Final note. When over your ball and gazing back and forth between ball and hole, turn your head perpendicularly around your neck so that your eyes stay parallel to the target line. Any head movement that throws your eyes off the parallel target line is bad news.

    John, I never realized how critical the dominate eye position was to proper alignment when putting. I knew to swivel my head and not pick it back up once in position as it tends to cause poor alignment. Which is similar to a golf swing. I am going to reposition my dominate eye and hope for even better results. One other item is you may want to save these videos for week days as oppose to week-ends. I have a few buddies who run blogs on UA-cam and the viewership is much lower on weekends vs weekdays. Keep up the good work, thank you!

    • @misteroneputt

      It is for either eye dominant. I would try left eye just inside the ball and even with it...that may be more forward than you normally do. The key question is getting into a position where you clearly see the line when over the ball in your putting set up.

      Try putting a washer on the ground and setting your ball on top of the washer. Use a marker to put a green dot on your ball and have that facing straight up. Practice keeping your eyes on the green dot and then seeing that green dot through the hole in the washer after your ball is struck and rolling away. I've done this a lot over the years and found it helps. Even on the course, when I can't use the washer, my mind sees it there...and I often have the green dot on my ball to retain that focus.

    Very interesting video. And this may seem like a dumb question, but how do I transfer this to golf course? I mean, how do I go from coins, to no coins? Seriously, I'm lost. How is this technique more beneficial than using a putting pad with a line on it? I'm not trying to be cute. It's just that I'm not real athletic -- my body gives me little feedback. Does this drill include swinging the club at all? I just have so many questions. Am I supposed to be figuring out where to keep my dominant eye after I line up with the coins? Again, very interesting video -- the whole dominant eye thing, stereoscopic vision thing, that all makes sense; but what is the goal of this drill? Am I just ultimately learning to rotate my head? I need baby steps. Whatever it is that's obvious to everyone else isn't obvious to me. My instincts stink too when it comes to physics.

    • @misteroneputt
      @misteroneputt  4 місяці тому

      The purpose is to train your eyes, and your set up to recognize where you are set up and aiming our eyes often play tricks on us. This would not be any different than using a putting mat with a line on it and rolling the ball straight up that line. Would practice rolling the ball over coins or parallel to the coins sadly, you can’t take them out onto the course with you, but the idea is to get in position where you see a straight line as actually straight when you’re set up and then drill until you can replicate that set up position on the course. I hope this helps and I don’t think your question is dumb at all. I think it’s a very serious and legitimate question. Again, hope this helps.

    so, when we do this set-up, the CENTER of the putter will be approximately 1 ball below and 1 putter- width away from the ball. When we stroke the putter, the toe of the putter will be hitting the ball. isn't it odd?

    • @misteroneputt
      @misteroneputt  Рік тому

      No. Not at all. The Center of the putter is centered on the ball. You position yourself so that your dominant eye is slightly inside the ball and slightly behind it. The point is your eyes are not directly over the ball but the putter head itself is of course centered on the ball

    • @misteroneputt
      @misteroneputt  2 роки тому +3

      Bill...a few suggestions to try...not a guaranteed cure...Since you are left handed and right eye dominant, you should probably play the ball a little forward of center to get your dominant eye slightly behind the ball. Then you might also try opening your stance a little which will improve the width and angle of view for the dominant eye relative to the line. I'd at least try those...ultimately choosing the line from behind and then committing to that even though it looks over when you are over the ball will help---of course using the lines on the ball and trusting them

    This is my biggest problem with putting. I will use the line on the ball to aim it on my chosen line. When I'm standing behind the ball, it looks like it's lined up properly. However, when I take my stance over the ball, the line on the ball always looks like it's aimed well to the left of my intended line. So, now I'm standing over the ball and I'm second-guessing the line I'm choosing. Nine times out of ten I will not trust the line on the ball and I will try to "correct" the "misaligned" ball. As a result I rarely finish a round with less than 32 putts.
