The square piece of metal with a slot in the side may be a mortice cutting tool in wood it would normally have a drill running in its centre and would be mounted in a type of press drill

theh thing you found with a round hole in the bottom and windows on the side is an old wad or patch cutter for muzzle loader .. this is joel from south carolina in the usa

The spike is a shoe to make a wooden pale go deeper in the ground without braking the wood. Going back to the 15/14 century 😮

THAT square bit with a hole in the side ,is used to make mortice joints in wood , a drill goes down the centre of the hole to make the joint [square hole drill bit ]

Hi Natalie. Thanks for spreading the word about doing Christmas your own way. People have thought our family strange that we don't do turkey etc.
I make what everyone wants to eat.
I only send cards to people I can't get to see. My husband and I have a tradition with any celebration cards, which is to show each other the cards, we would have chosen, then check how much we've saved not buying them.
Hubby also puts my presents into his business padded envelopes, which are then reuse... he's such a romantic

7:40 is a hollow chisel mortiser. You can still buy new ones of them now. A drill bit went down the middle to remove the bulk of the wood and the part you found squares off the sides and corners.

The silent picket explanation wasnt totally accurate, it would have a corkscrew on one end, you then place a bar or a piece of wood in as a handle, and turn it into the ground.
