Hey man, we had the same problem with one of our sheep a couple of years ago. We made a little squeeze shoot to contain her. After about a week she took back the lamb. Good luck and have patience. I really appreciate what you are doing.
Thank you. I really do think it will work. It will just take some time
@@FowlerFamilyFarmcan you tell me if that worked ?
Starlight is a perfect name. Praying for the baby and that Momma accepts her
Yes, the mom did finally except her after about 45 days. But the work that day off.
@@FowlerFamilyFarmWhere's Ur farm?
Starlight is such a sweet little girl. I hope her momma takes over soon.
Thank you Debra. We hope so too. Thanks for watching.
Such a pretty baby, good luck little one,🙏❤️
Thank you Gale. I think she will make it
That baby dropping to the ground whenever mom moved just melted my heart!🙏❤🙏
Yes I wasn’t that so funny like a little 🦌 deer. Thanks for watching.
@@FowlerFamilyFarmDo You have Deers?
The baby is so cute - it is always a shame when the mom doesn't accept them - have a great week !!
you have a great week as well
Patience is a virtue for farmers....
Very much so Sam. I just hope I have enough
@@FowlerFamilyFarmDo you have Deers?
That's true because i have a goat kid right now been rejected but i have to feed him on lasco now
Starlight is precious you're doing a great job well if she doesn't accept the baby you may have to milk mama so that you can give her mama's milk fix you up a milk and stand and milk mama so you can feed her mama's milk. Prayers that this works and that after five or six days that she accepts the baby and you won't have to continue doing that or bottle feeding the baby but I know yall will do what you have to save the baby you've gone this far you're not going to stop now. God bless yall.
Thank you Sherry for watching yes we will go the distance👍 we will make sure she gets her mamas milk.
@@FowlerFamilyFarmis that Male or female?
Starlite started smelling and acting like a pup. Such a cutie
Starlight seems to be happy and energetic. Would be nice if Mama would accept her but I doubt she will. Love that you're doing what you can for Starlight. Take care and stay safe out there. GOD BLESS Y'ALL.
Thank you for watching Linda yes she’s doing well. Hopefully she will take to her soon.
Aww! I watched the clip you posted before I watched this. Starlite is a perfect name! In the clip you included in this, I was amazed at how Starlite knew to lay down when Mama walked away. God gave them that instinct in order to protect them when mama isn't around. Baby deer do that also. God definitely supplies all our needs. The hen made her a nice little nest. I loved the video. Hugs. God bless.
Yes Jo Ann, I thought it looked like a little baby deer as well. God never ceases to amaze me, and being on the Homestead they’re all reminders everywhere. God bless thanks for watching
Starlight is beautiful. Tail shows the baby is very happy drinking Mama's milk.
Yes she is happy when she gets mammas milk…. Now if I can just get momma to accept her
Your a great daddy Goat.
Ha ha that’s a good way to look at it I guess
I hope Tonya and your mom get better, also glad the goat made it.
I think their ego was bruised more than their body
@@FowlerFamilyFarm That's good I guess?
Starlight is a beautiful girl. Love her markings.
Milk stand works great and tie back leds down plus feed them grain while kids feed
So glad that this worked.
So far so good thanks for watching.
That baby goat is adorable, so glad you are persevering with the momma and trustfully they will get it figured out. Thank you for the share. Found yous through Eddy Family
Thank you for helping the little goat ...she is so sweet....poor baby...
Yes they are all so sweet!!
Hey I noticed you petting Ginger snap (was that the momma's name) while she was letting the baby nurse. I know with cat's if you rub the same scent on each cat it makes them get along faster (rather than hiss and growl) so we used to put perfume on each. I wonder if after you pet mama you should pet baby and rub Mama's scent all over her to help her get "that scent" also squeeze a little of Mama's milk and put it all over baby. That might also help move things along faster. I don't know for sure, I'm not an expert, but it does seem logical to me at least. Lol. I hope this helps. I'm sure you tried it already, but do it EVERY TIME too. Love the video. Starlight is a cutie.
Yes Jackie , Ginger snap is her name. I think that’s how she got rejected. Her scent got licked off by the dogs maybe. That’s just a guess of course. So we do try to let her sniff and rub her all over before we feed so moms Scent is on her. Thanks for watching Jackie.
Starlight is beautiful…….we Had the same issue with one of our goats who has twins….. we would put her up on the milk stand with some grains and had the babies drink that way, she kicked and bucked for the first few but after a week and a half she finally accepted the babies and was letting them drink with no problems 🙌🏼💪🏾
Poor baby! Can you milk the momma and try feeding her that way? She’s so cute!
Yes I’m milking the mama and feed her three bottle at times but mainly just holding the mama and letting the baby eat off the Mona
I just went thru this n I'm on day 4...I held the mother the first few days every 2-3 hrs n now she isn't fighting me as much to feed her kid. It's was very stressful when the mother was flipping the baby away I'm glad she is taking to her now🙌🏼Hope everything worked out
💖💖👍👍Praying for Starlight and her momma. God Bless
She is adorable! I hate that her mama is rejecting her, poor little thing. Love the name btw
Thank you so much! Much needed help!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🐐
Praying that She'll accept Starlight soon. I'm sure that having to take the time out of your day to do this so many times a day is getting monotonous. I'm praying this pays off in the end.. in theory it should. I'm wondering if it was a very traumatic birth and she went into shock and doesn't even real realize that's her kid.
Thanks for sharing Myke.
Stay happy, healthy, hydrated and safe. May God continue to bless you, your family and your adventures.
Yes Margie it is getting a little monotonous only when we have to get to work so up early and up late. It’s not ideal, but we got to keep our females. And starlight is a cutie thanks for watching.
Followed you from Eddy Family. Starlight is so cute.
Starlight is awesome we love her
We have had to tie some up too. We have tied them up to where when we walk in the pen they just stand still and let them nurse. Key is making sure the baby is hungry so it nurses a bunch. Hopefully eventually she will take her back.
Hope so. It gets tiring over the week. Im switching to just 3 tomes a day now tho so she is very hungry
Starlight is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️
She is a very pretty baby
She’s a beautiful baby!
that should work fine....keep up the great work.......eh.......dj.
Thank you Dj we shall see in about a week!
Glad to see you have the patience for the baby goat. It may take a while' but she is a cute on
Yes she is very cute. I have the patience just not the time sometimes
Eddy family farm sent me over, I hope she excepts her because that little goat is so cute.
LOVE those baby goats!! ❤
Hi Mike and Tonya 👋👋👋🤗😳🤗💃😁😁💃👌🏼👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Vann sorry for the late reply been very busy
I'm not a farmer and this was very interesting. Good luck
Hello Folwer Farm Family, Brandon Eddy sent me over enjoyed Star Light and Momma.
Thanks for coming over Deborah.
That baby needs to serve the chicken a 30 day written notice to vacate. Honestly, I don't think I'd ever trust that doe with the kid by herself.
Does chickens think they own the barn. I haven’t left him alone yet it will have to be a clear easy decision if I do
💖💖
💖💖 Thanks Pat
Oh no Mike I'm sorry that happened to the baby
We are still adapting but she’s doing pretty good
Love your videos and channel I know I say that a lot but I do
Thanks Austin I appreciate it. I love the positive comments and keeps me motivated
Your welcome
Sandi from Sheepishly me has had to do this occasionally with her Ewes. Works well
One of my does had to have an emergency C section and initially rejected her babies- probably didn’t know they were hers. After slathering the babies in the mom’s milk from head to toe, mom accepted them.
Awesome. It took me a little bit to get this one reattached in the ling run
Thank you for the video. Im going to try it.
Just an update, my female with 2 kids only lets them milk for about 1 minute then walks off. She is trying to wean them too early. They both dropped considerably in weight. I did your method as show and in just 24hrs i already see them looking much better and being more active. Thank you again for the video. It works!
Cute baby!
Thanks Karen
If she had it how she don’t know it’s hers
WoW beautiful rooster !!!
Thank you
I love Starlite!!!
Thanks sis
I hope your wife and mom is doing better 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Maybe their ego is bruised more than their body
Take gingersnap and tie her down so tight legs and all and let the baby goat eat and do that as many times as nessassary to feed the baby and eventually she will accept the baby because of the relief on her utter, you have to let that goat know that to have this awesome life as part of a heard she has responsibilities to.
💕♥️
I got two on bottles now but it’s just how it is with goats and nothing change in 72 years
I’ve done it so much and hundreds of times
Yep. It’s inevitable. You’re gonna have bottle babies just about every year.
If ginger snap doesnt start taking care of the baby after the baby is winged cull ginger snap so the other goats know you cant act that way and you cant afford to allow those traits in your heard.
I hope Starlite gets accepted by her momma soon!
She did. A lot of work but it paid off in the long run
Have you tried feeding mom in the milking stand when you try to get her to nurse? I find goats are extremely tolerant of thing when they are being fed. You might have to this for a short time and maybe then she will nurse them on her own.
If the mother resents her for the dogs licking her, rub them both down in vanilla flavoring, we done a cow and adopted calf that way and the cow accepted the calf as long as we kept the flavoring on them.
I meant to add that it took about 5 hours.
I might have to try that. The mother is not head butting her anymore but still walks off if the baby tries to eat.
Good job done witch county you
Garvin
I had a goat that had twins. I believe they got separated while she gave birth so she accepted one but not the other.
After I thought about all the things I could have done to get her to accept the rejected one like:
- Put both babies in a sack together till they smell the same.
- if I had the placenta, rub it on them both.
- rub mom's pee or poo on them
If anyone has tried any of these let me know if it worked.
I tried the pee and poo thing it really didn’t work for us. You need to get the mother’s milk going through the babies system and then when the baby poos the momma should smell her self on the baby after that. This finally worked for us after about a month or so
Come on she knows that baby is hers shes angry because she's got a responsibility that goat knows that baby came out of its rear end and can smell it shes angry at the baby because it traumatised her and she thinks if she ignores the baby it will just die and go away and you have to set standards with your goats this is unacceptable and the have a responsability towards the partnership you have with the members of the heard because your your not the only one making a sacrifice for the heard that every member in the heard has they're own responsibility to the heard.
She doesn’t want to be a mom. Let her be. This baby is not supposed to live
Does this happen often??
No not really. I think it happened because the mommas baby from
The previous year was still attached to her, and the dogs probably cleaned the smell off the baby
With first time nanny it happens nearly every year, out of 91 at least 2/3 will do it sometimes 6/7
My first time breeders rejected all their babies and they would only last two days and sadly the died so you know how I can not make these things happen again
What kind of Goats are you Raising and how old were they when they had their first baby’s
@@FowlerFamilyFarm The first time breeders were 6months thru 1 year abs and they didn’t know what to do they just cleaned them and never fed the babies and they were boar moms
Bore nanny are really bad about it, more so if there over feed and fat
Just expect it every kidding season and prepare
Sale that nanny once kids are of her
I know it's necessary to tie her up so the baby can eat I just wish there was another way to this. I hate seeing them tied up
I actually found it easier to just hold the momma which actually makes things less stressful and easier on all of us. It actually works after several weeks of this
We have some Nigerians & Dapple Boer's. We just had our first Nigerian baby born yesterday. A female, she seems healthy but we haven't seen her nurse yet, will babies always know to feed & nurse on its own? We have another Nigerian doe that due anyday, supposed to have twins. How often does a mom reject them? I'm curious to see if they will try nurse from other mom's.
If you havent seen her nurse you need to make the attachment for them and see if you can get her to drink from mama. She needs the colostrum.
@@FowlerFamilyFarm she did & has been nursing. I woke up early this morning go check on them. It's our first goat kid, a little doe. She's adorable. Seems to be healthy. We have another female ready to give birth anyday also
Get a collar for a dog and put on her makes life way easier. That doe does need to take a ride to town and sad to say but kid to she also carries those poor genetics.
It’s funny you mention a color I almost went and grabbed one the other day. I may have to give it a go in the next few videos and see if I can get it to work. I agree with you on the genetics the previous two years though she has given me good babies and has taken care of them very well that’s why I’m kind of confused on this
@@FowlerFamilyFarm you didn't say she had had before or I missed it then it could have another reason. I had several one year not take but they had just been moved and abnormal weather. No problem before or after. I have only had goats for 40 years know a way or 2 to make things easier
😥
Hey, y’all! I’m new, here. Came over from Brandon at Rustic Wood Work and Family. (He was recommended by Walker Farm Fam) Boy, she sure doesn’t want that baby on her, does she? Can you take some of Gingersnap’s pee and rub it on Starlight? Or, some of her milk on the baby? I had a Nigerian dwarf, about 35/40 years ago, who had triplets. She rejected the 2 females, but kept the male. I ended up bottle feeding the girls. Be safe! Prayers and Blessings always
P.S. I will be going back to view more videos.
Thanks Donna For coming over we appreciate it. I have rubbed some of ginger snaps milk on the baby but haven’t tried P yet someone else recommended that as well maybe I’ll give it a shot please do watch some of our older stuff we’ve gotten much better I think
Why you breeding goats?🤷🏽♂️
😇😇😇💜
Can you not put mom's urine on baby. I've seen on some vet shows I watch that they do that and it seams to work. Good luck!
I haven’t thought of that one yet maybe I’ll give it a try
You should let the mother goats lick the baby you making mistakes right there
Your being far to nice to that goat tie her up and dont untie her until that baby has eaten for several hours, leave it tied up for a week if it wont change its attitude and make sure the other goats can see or you will never get this behavior out of your heard.
Tried to give the goat some grain at the same time, then she will relate the little baby to nice grain
Yes never let the dogs near the baby!
Really I’ve seen my LGDs lick hundred babies and it doesn’t make any difference
Most of the time it’s a first time nanny and it’s pretty common
They usually keep the male and not the female
Low milk production will also cause them to kick one or two of and keep the male
Yes having the dogs near the kids when they're kidding is a big no-no. Each of ours goes into a birth in stall 48 hours before their due date and they are in there with their kid 3 days if healthy longer if need be. This way they are birthing by themselves uninterrupted and can bond with their kid without other goats and especially dogs. We have four livestock guardian dogs and one of the females especially gets pretty close as far as cleaning up blood from the doe and the kid and this time she did it to the wrong goat because that goat spun around and dog ended up having to go to the vet so I mean it's just something you don't let your dogs do. Plus it's just not a good idea for them to clean up and be that close when the doe needs to be cleaning up her own placenta and not the dogs. Plus I like to record the the placenta was passed.
Now let's get into the rejection issues. I give a doe two chances, this year I've got a gorgeous dappled high percentage boer but if she don't accept her kids this year she's no use to this farm as this is genetic and we don't breed poor maternal Instincts into the herd.
Put a halter on!!!! YOU will have more control!!!
Good idea
@@FowlerFamilyFarm I used to just make halter out of hay bail twine but you can get mini ponies halters and some of them will fit goats or you can find real goat ones on line I 🤔!!!!
❤️❤️
