Archibald was selected as an All-Star in 1980, 1981 (in which he won All-Star MVP), and 1982.

I don't have Larry Bird as the best 1v1 player of all time, nor the best scorer of all time, but I do have him as the best glue player of all time. He made his team better, by giving his all for his team. He was ridiculously clutch and his hustle was second to none. If I had the first draft pick in an all-time dream team draft, Larry Bird is my pick, because he makes picking the rest of my team that much easier.

Bird did not come to play. He came to win and would do what ever it took. Putting himself on the line. My goat

Not just a concussion when he hit the floor face first; he fractured his cheekbone, and still came back in the game.
Also, anyone who can get their own rebound, change hands while still in the air, and then score with his off-hand cannot be called unathletic. I have never, ever seen another play like that.
Finally, props to DJ for seeing that Bird stole the ball, and immediately heading to the basket.

I think I've posted this on most of the Larry Bird videos I watch.
In the 9 years before his back/foot injuries... Bird had 3 rings (5 finals), 3 MVPs, 2 Finals MVPs, averaged 25/10/6. Had the first 2 40/50/90 seasons ever and was fractions away from 2 more before those. His team won 60+ games 6 times, never winning less than 56 and once going 67-15, 4th best ever at the time before expansion. He is still the fastest to reach 10k points, 5k rebounds and 3k assists.
Bird averaged the same points, assists and steals per game as Stephen Curry while also having the same rebounds per game as Karl Malone.

One thing many may not remember was there was a stretch when he was scoring 40 a night - he explained the team was playing well and winning, so he just felt like scoring 40; and he did.

He could won multiple scoring titles if he wanted to. He preferred to get his team involved instead. One of the many reasons he is the best ever.

And Larry was crazy accurate, I've seen him hit full court passes just over the fingertips of a jumping defender, like a Dan Marino pass, 🤣

Bird had supernatural instincts. All his game attributes you mention are 100% instinct can't be taught. It comes from within. It's like he knew 3-5secs ahead of time where everyone was going to be on the court before they even knew and exploited his opponents with his instincts every time. 😎👍🏾

I never recalled any other NBA player in history telling his teammates,
"Do you want to win the game?" "OK, Gimme the ball and get out of the way!"
LB actually did it on numerous occasions.

Love your channel because I grew up in this era when the NBA was awesome. Doctor J was my favorite player then Bird then Jordan. I don’t watch today’s NBA because side it’s a joke to me but I do see clips now and then and Magic, Bird, Stockton, Jokic, and maybe Luka are my five best passers of all time.

This is why the 80s were the best decade of the NBA. Bird and Magic dominated that dedicated. Young Jordan fans - who never actually saw Jordan play live (whole game, not just highlights) did not comprehend that Jordan could not win at a high level during the 80s despite playing in half the decade. Three main differences between Jordan and Bird. One, Bird made his teammates better which is why his teams were great EVERY year he played. Jordan did not start winning until the great ones started retiring AND Jordan got the right coach and teammates. Two, Jordan was so athletic and made things look hard. Bird was the opposite. Bird made things look easy, which made is "trash talking" even more powerful. Three, Jordan rested during the games on offense. Many games you will see Jordan on the wing resting with his hands on his knees. Bird was constantly moving with made his defender work harder, unable to help on backside defense. Bird was the perfect team player. You build a franchise around Bird. You cannot build a franchise around Jordan with the right coach and role players. Nothing against Jordan, but Jordan's legacy is more myth than reality.

Bird broke a finger on his shooting hand the summer after college, and said he never was as good a shooter as he'd been after that. Which is mind-boggling, when you think about it.

Larry’s definitely #1 all time if you could make a physical skills to output ratio.
Almost anyone i can think of over Bird in the goat conversation is incredibly athletic.
