That's cool... but it would've been nice to see the rest of the process of importing the graphic into lightburn and engraving something.

Just for you to know. Quality 12 in a JPG from Photoshop is NOT the best quality.
There are two compressors for a JPG that work together and you slide the quality slider in between the two compressors. In fact, quality set at 8 gives you the most detailed picture with the least compression possible. There are tons of videos about this topic and very few people know this.
So, your tutorial is great, but the result can be even better. Try it out.

Very nice job! I used to use the color picker within photoshop to isolate the layers. This however, however is a much more precise method of defining the layers. Now, the real trick, is getting the speed, power and order right when you combine everything in Lightburn. Thanks for your tutorial insights!

How are you dealing with all of the islands when you go to laser out the multiple layers?
You can do an offset path that will put a nice outline on the image.

Great Video.... Question.. When erasing around the image.. could you have just removed BACKGROUND? Not challenging just wondering...BEGINNER HERE.
I have watched this video countless times and followed along while working with PS and AI. I get everything EXCEPT at 8:38 when you select the layers and move them to the left of the original image, align them and then place them back on top of one another, but before doing so you delete the original image you started with (the black background one). I'm having a two problems: 1. when i align the layers horizontally and vertically it is just a mess of lines and 2. when I use "select" / "same" / "fill" and drag the layers off to the side I'm not left with original image I stated with. What am I doing wrong??

I need to ask you about mandala layered design.
I am guessing you can use this for layering, or assigning layers, for some 2.5d work in engraving? Or even for inlay work.
We also can select only black then select-inverse and it be selected every thing exept black.
Updates have moved the "expand button". Where/what is it now?

Hey, I am trying to print some design that is white (printed over a transparent acrylic).
But everytime I save it in png or jpg the program recognizes the white as "void" and does not print anything... could you help me??
How can I print the white..??

Great tutorial. But can't you just invert the image and use the "ignore white" setting in image trace to get rid of the square border?
why not cleanup the border in ps before bringing it into ai?
In this specific instance: MOSTLY becasue I didn't think of it beforehand, but additionally I try not to remove data from rasters before I know how they're going to trace. Sometimes I will upscale a raster, trace it in AI - and once I see AI's behavior I'll close it out and start over with PS to see if I can make improvements based on what I saw go down in the trace. It's an art not a science for sure.
