    4:43 What I really don't like in mma sparring is that when I pull my high kicks right before they connect people catch them on their head and sweep or take me down. It does force me to get some extra grappling in but it still feels cheap. You ain't catching a full speed high kick after it connects.

    • @eagleflight2627
      @eagleflight2627 3 роки тому +33

      True, I found that turning my hips down, pulling the leg out of the catch and throwing a side kick while running away does the trick most of the time as long as you are not near the cage or rope.

      @@virityrealtual3831 MMA prime Is way different than a boxers prime. Boxers usually start boxing at a rlly young age(around 10-13 year old) and even then most boxers reach their prime at around their late 20s or early 30s. MMA fighters are usually people who focused on one Martial art/Combat sport when they were adolescents and then learned starting learning different styles into adulthood. Which is why a lot of MMA fighters most dominant years can usually be in their early to mid 30s. Mainly because youth MMA is more or less illegal or barely ever done.

    i just had a sparring session yesterday with a guy who wouldnt stop throwing hard ass punches, caught me with an uppercut while i tried to move in as he was atleast 3 inches taller than me, ended up with a bruised up eye and face, all good tho we continued the round, right after the shot. Once we were done i just told him that going so hard makes no sense, we aint preparing for a match or a tournament, we are just having fun lets focus on our footwork and technic.. we are still intermediate begginers, we don't fully know how to roll with the punches etc.. why go so hard brotha? im glad you put the second to last guy in his place, dude doesn't realize he's wearing smaller gloves and he could easily break someone's nose with that uppercut that he threw. fucking hell people go on a heavy bag, release your testosterone and come and spar like a human being

      I feel ya....I was sparring an idiot who was going full power (he actually hurt me even when I was blocking with boxing gloves) and he had the audacity to tell me that I am going too hard, after I decided to match his power. Some people are just idiots with too much ego and they just want others to be their punch bags. It's a tough one because they either force you to ask them to take it easy (making yourself look like you can't take it) or go as hard but it can turn ugly, especially when they can't take it.

He was on the younger side even though im 22 myself i believe be was 18 so i just took it and let him work but i made sure to explain stuff to him afterwards.. whether it got through to him or not aint my problem. all i know i wont show any type of respect next time. sometimes u just have to go rough and hit them as hard as they hit u to teach them a lesson.

    • @MMAShredded
      @MMAShredded  3 роки тому +10

      it works if you are as tough as he is. And although it works for him, and it doesn't "hurt" him, it doesn't mean that his brain isn't taking that extra impact. I use to use that guard in Muay Thai all the time, but I felt I was getting slower and my memory was getting worse. Its probably from sparring in general, but im trying to minimize now and think of longevity

      @@tfunknationtown In short; Yan makes it work in MMA because is part of his defense but is not his only defense, Yan hand-fights and parries A LOT, try to give a watch to Yan vs Cory, you will notice fairly quickly.
      Having said that, I don't do sparring myself, but I do agree with Jeff, high guards and shelling has to be less healthy for you in the long run, the force of the impact is still transferred to your head, also this guard can incentivize a go forward or stand your ground kind of style, and that can make the issue even worse.

    11:38 what a beatiful counter. Bait/pull with a throwaway jab and slip and uppercut as they come in. I will try to think of it next sparring and try to pull it off.

    I love your style man, your striking is so fluid and you don't waste time overthinking where to attack from. You just let loose. I'm currently training Muay Thai and our coach teaches a lot of shell blocking when my instinct is to parry (I tend to have a reach advantage and prefer long guard). For someone like me who would like to crossover eventually to MMA, would you be able to do a video about some guard options with the MMA gloves? Much appreciated and keep up the great videos!

    I love your weave to kick combos. I started integrating the low kick version a couple weeks ago and am really digging how much power it keeps. I really need to work on my takedowns though. My usual partner is about 270 and highly paranoid of takedowns so taking him down often takes a day foreplay, flowers, dinner, that sort of thing. This sparring and your breakdown were awesome, thank you for sharing!
