- In today's video, I get started on my vows, go through the nitty gritty of wedding planning, get GLAMMED UP by my amazing makeup artist, Danica, a fellow Asian vegan who is just an across-the-board amazing human. Definitely check her out on instagram (@flower.artistry) but keep an eye out for her cause she's blowing up the vegan scene in London, Ontario at Western University and I am stoked to see what's to come for her!
Her kit is cruelty-free BUT just an FYI, not all of these palettes are totally vegan (some have carmine and such). Danica assured me that every shade she used on me is vegan, but I'll mark anything that comes from a non-vegan product.

Why isn't your logo using the Vietnamese flag? - Actually I use the South Vietnam flag because it represents Viet Kieu (Vietnamese immigrants after the fall of Saigon), my parents were both boat refugees before immigrating to Canada. My logo combines two parts of my identity: Maple leaf because I'm Canadian, and the South Vietnam flag because I'm Vietnamese :)

My fav part of the video was when you talked about the process of figuring out your vows and what language you wanted to use and that you were very mindful of heteronormative limited ideals of gender norms. You all are clearly a very thoughtful couple I think its wise youve talked about that topic and want your values included in the process. That was a breathe of fresh air. Btw the make up vibe was perfect even if you end up using different foundation/products the day of the aesthetic was gorgeous and would love beautiful with a flower crown 😍😍😍

"A Practical Wedding" was my main source of info, and it served me well. I also liked the general tone of the site compared to the other mainstream sites. There was a continued message that you don't need to do something just because it's expected or traditional, and I appreciated that. Seems like you're doing a great job with your planning and making sure the wedding fits you and not the other way around.

Wow! I didn't know there was such a thing as vegan florists either! OMG, I am so nervous at the thought of writing my vows! The gender roles can be daunting for sure. I love that you are making your union about you two and not what is expected!

I have never been married but I did officiate the wedding of my oldest daughter and her husband 5 years ago. Very proud moment for me and I didn't cry until the end when I said "I now pronounce you man and wife" then the tears started.
My best advice is to just enjoy the moment when the day is finally here. Don't stress about what does or doesn't happen as planned :) it is going to happen whether you get married in two of the exact same shoes or in two that look the same in front but have different heels in the back like I did. Lol.

This is so exciting! I am so happy for you. The makeup came out beautiful. I loved the brows! I am currently single, so all of this is a long way off for me lol, but it is nice to watch and see what I have to look forward to some day.

I thought of two books you might be interested in! 'Something New' by Lucy Knisley is all about her struggles with all the gender roles/traditions in weddings and how she found a balance between tradition and celebrating in her own way! It was a very inspiring and fun book (graphic novel actually)! Shes also a huge foodie and has another book called 'Relish' which is all about that! Btw your makeup and venue look really lovely :)

I wore a flower crown for my wedding as well. I did mine in faux flowers, so I could hang it on the wall afterward, like a pretty little mini-wreath. 😁 #arwengoalz

I give you credit for not doing a series of rough drafts of your vows in pencil first! No, straight to the calligraphy! It seems like the minutiae one deals with at the end of preparations is the stuff that could really mess up the day if not done punctually and with as much care as picking the dress and menu. It's all coming together for you . . . TFP : )

things are looking good for your wedding :) if it could go wrong it did for mine...except my hair and our clothes. it likely would have gone much better if we had been able to give it our full attention. unfortunately my father was dying from cancer at the time. we didn't even get the pics from the photographer because they didn't follow the agreement we had with them. poor dad even thought he was ruining my wedding (the cancer was in his brain at the time so he wasn't thinking clearly)

I LOVE that you're going for a gender neutral wedding! That's amazing. I also didn't realize florists could be vegan but that makes TOTAL sense as a lot of "organic" soil & fertilizers have animal products in them... I also wish to look like Arwen if we ever renew our vows. I'm pretty stoked for you and I love these updates!!

Hmm I like how you decided to keep the wedding vows/planning/ceremony gender neutral. I think it keeps the people who are getting married accountable in maintaining their relationship the best they can without falling too easily into gender roles or what you/she/he/they should do.
Also woah, did not know there were vegan florists! I did know fertilizer sometimes contains animal manure but I'm not sure what else it contains (maybe filter products like bone char I'm guessing?). That's cool you have a service like that in your area :)

Yeah! I mean I feel like that that might be a level of veganism I don't think is practical for everyone but I didn't even know there was an option otherwise! So when I found out about Floral & Brick I figured I might as well since she's available!
