Hello nobody said it wasn't a Sony controller lol. Scuf had to pay licensing fees but now have created their own so it's much cheaper, sure it was expensive but it was customised specially with the mouse click triggers. I have a Scuf Reflex FPS but after a year it has stick drift so I just upgraded to a Sony Daulsense Edge. I didnt even know about their own new controller the Scuf Envision which I would really like as it's comes with 1000hz polling rate two extra buttons on the sides so 6 extra buttons compared to Sony 2 extra that are always accessible and usable for gaming. The replacable thumb sticks are so good though. I don't like having to use hidusbf and DS4 windows just to get 1ms. Hidusbf on it's own doesn't overclock to 1ms I think it's due to the software not supporting the controller properly, it shouldn't have the 2K an 8K options. 8K isn't as fast as hidusbf at 1K with DS4. Sadly DSX doesn't seem to push the controller refresh rate up to 1K (1ms, 0.5-1.0ms) like DS4 does even with hidusbf at 1K or 8K. I had to get my hands on a PS5 to save profiles so I could use it with DS4 to get that faster response time. If you don't care about 1ms or cant tell the difference just use DSX to bind the pedals to whatever buttons you want on the Sony Dualsense Edge for PC use.
@@GearsAndTech that’s great man, good idea! So which do you prefer? The Scuf or the extreme rates buttons and how they feel? Specifically the back buttons, of course.
Hello and thank your for this video, sorry but my english is so bad :) So, if I understand well, it's possible to change the PS button of the Scuf controller with the realone (PS button) if I change the front panel too ? Thanks for your help !
Hi, what you said 5:00 about the faceplate is not correct as there are a lot more of little plastic clips and divots on the original dualsense faceplate. Otherwise, thanks for the video ✌️
Do you fix controllers for people?? I have crazy stick drift to the left. I’ve taken it apart but to get to the stick itself is tricky and I don’t wanna break it
I took my scuf reflex apart to solder on new stick. Let me tell u just send it to scuf to get it fixed not worth the time imo. There is so much stuff you have to desolder and solder back on. U also have to deal with a flex pcb, which r very susceptible to heat damage a little too much heat and ur stuck with a useless conteoller
Great video. So is it possible to replace the scuf reflex fps click triggers with the extremerate click triggers? Mine stopped clicking for both L2 and R2 and controller is out of warranty
I would like to have a SCUF style controller but SCUF has a bad reputation with customer support. I’ve read more bad reviews than good reviews about how long their controllers last
Not going far enough in my opinion and I can warn you "don’t worry for the breaking sounds", worry about since it mean you broke a small plastic part 😅 (probably not mandatory but still, I can tell later)
Any chance of a video going further and removing the front faceplate to get to the D-pad, recently received a custom scuff reflex but the right button on the D-pad is kind of stiff and sticky compared to the rest hoping I can fix to avoid international return to repair
Can you swap the thumb stick module in the scuf? I mean the whole module like in the PS5 Edge. Can it be removed by perhaps melting the shouldering? My Scuf Reflex FPS has a damaged right thumb stick after 1 year. Not only does it have stick drift but it also has random jitters that randomly have up inputs when just touching it. I did just buy a Sony Dualsense Edge for that very reason but I am curious if I can still fix my scuf? I bought the scuf because I knew it was a PS5 controller as I wanted to overclock it to 1000hz as my Xbox Elite 2 cannot be overclocked as it's hardware limited. Xbox controllers can't be successfully overclocked and are locked at 124hz. Sony Playstation controllers come at 250hz but can be overclocked to 1000hz.
Hey I have a scuf and got the extremerate clicky hair trigger kit and was wondering if I can install that in my scuf reflex controller and with what BDM?
So the red one.. I built with extremerate parts. The back button broke multiple times... I brought an aim controller... the back button broke... I brought a scuf reflex fps... I hope I dont have the same problem
But what's the quality of the internal back paddle buttons mounted on the battery tray? Is it just the same kind of dome switches that broke on my PS4 Scuf housed under those tiny metal boxes with the button nubs sticking out? Or are they some kind of good quality switches, like what Corsair would use in their keyboards? Those dome switches were definitely a problem for many people with the pre-Corsair Scuf controllers. I'm just a casual gamer and one of mine broke right as the warranty expired. And I'm not paying Scuf (probably at least the price of a Sony controller from what I hear) to fix a part that is essential in making it what I paid a premium price for and should have a lifetime warranty for that reason. (and you can't find replacements for them either) This is something that people considering a Scuf should know before they make that call. I know I wouldn't buy a Scuf again without knowing this and a better warranty from them. My Dualshock 4 Back Button Attachment works perfectly and has already outlasted a controller. And I also did the eXremerate metal 2 paddle mod to my Dualsense controller and am eXtremely pleased with it. (pun obviously intended) My advice is to go with the much better value and ease of replacement of the eXtremerate mods and give Scuf a pass. p.s. - It's also kind of telling that Scuf used the original Dualsense PCB, the 010 version that Sony has already switched from to the 020 version well before the Reflex became available. Not a good sign.
Thanks for this very informative video. I'm curious how it fairs after a month of regular-to-heavy usage. I remember the couple of scuffs i bought before for the PS4, and at both times, the controller back paddles/buttons were very less responsive after about 2 to 3 months of use only. Thank you for your reply.
I had the same issue. For me, it was the square metal tactile domes that broke. I had to open my SCUF many times to replace them, which would make the controller feel brand new. Then I ended up snapping the ribbon cables on accident which rendered it broken.
I have a reflex pro and the left side of the controller is super loose and feels hollow, I sent it in for them to fix it but it was tight for a day and then it got loose again kinda annoying. Do u recommend a fix to try to tight those faceplates up?
Damn so scuf reflex don’t have the new parts that the new color ways of ps5 have? I would figure since they have been out of stock maybe they updated them but that means drift will still be a problem eventually…anybody experiencing drift on reflex or the new ps5 controllers ? (Light blue , pink, or purple,)?
Light blue dualsense not yet. But I’ve only had it a month. But the dualsense that came with my console got drift after about a year. I took it apart and cleaned it now it’s good to go
I have a question, if the Scuf sticks were to start drifting (Common DS5 issue..).. Would you be able to pop transplant in a new PCB assembly from another DS5 controller?. To keep the Scuf shape and function, but replace the sticks.
Yes, you could solder a new stick in Or use the drift fix solder in solutions. Eventually I'll do a video on those, just haven't got drift yet to need them
@@GearsAndTech Got it, thanks. My Dualsense started having this weird drift issues where it pulls left every now and then, and now reading and watching videos about it seems to be a potentiometer issue. Thinking about attempting a repair on it. Great videos by the way.
@@GearsAndTech Thank you. Have you actually tried it and put the controller back together to confirm it isn't rubbing and can move freely? taking the controller apart won't be an issue as I have done it a couple of times.
For what it's worth, I recommend you just do these instead Adjustable height Thumbsticks - amzn.to/3FBt1Lg I know they work for sure, and make it super easy to swap the thumb sticks afterwards
@@GearsAndTech Thanks for the recommendation but I have my heart set on the Scuf Reflex sticks. From my research it looks like the issue will come from the front clip off shel, so I have ordered some larger friction rings designed for Xbox Elite (apparently they fit) and then drill the holes for the faceplate larger. I'll keep you updated when it's done to let you know if it was a success or not.
If I was doing this I would shave the main controller shell bigger then so you can pop the Thumbsticks right out by only pulling the top plate off in the future. You won't have any issues then and should not need to shave anything off the top trim plate so it keeps the factory look
i have used xbox elite series 2, ps4 ds4 controller, ps5 controller and scuf controller - among all these controllers what i've felt that, scuf controller have much more aim assist in call of duty warzone (pc)! Why is that? Do you think is there any reason behind this?
not worth it. ive bought two in the last two months and both have had problems. first one the tiger stopped working. second the paddles stopped mapping.
Mine came with the right D-Pad having to be pressed significantly more than the others. Could be dust or something from the factory. Is there any way to reach it?
My scuf constantly has an issue where my x button r3 button gets stuck “on”. So when I’m flying in warzone I can’t pull my parachute, I break my legs, and then the give up button is r3 so my teammates can’t even save me.
I've had the red, black and white apart and none of them had that epoxy on them. At some point I'll have the blue ones apart, so I'll check that one. But I haven't come across any with that epoxy except the scuf
@@GearsAndTech my first ever controller (like the one that comes w the console) I had had the epoxy thing so I’m assuming it must’ve been in the older dualsenses idk all the other ones I had don’t have that tho

Hey, i have a question!! My scuff reflex since lastnight everytime i press L2, L1 trigger it turns off the controller. I have pressed other buttons and everything works normal only when any of those 2 are pressed it turns off the controller. Any thoughts?
Sony does not allow third party controllers, because then other people would make controllers that do not have haptic feedback and adaptive' triggers. Sonyt wants developers to use these controller features in their games. That is why they encrypted the dualsense for alll ps5 games. Breaking the encreption is offcourse illegal. So if sony decides to keep the arrangement this way, then there will never be official thirdparty controllers. Or the may in the feuture allow company's to make a controller if they pay sony money so they would get acces to the encyption code/keys.
My Refles FPS won't charge...or it's VERY hard to get it to. And if you do get it to 100% it don't last too long. Could it be the battery or is something preventing it from charging?

@@GearsAndTech Thanks for the Tear down. I am trying to fix the drift in my Scuf Reflex in the left thumb stick. I tried to replace the Potentiometers for the left Stick. Depends whats broken If it's the button itself then pop it off and pop a new one on If it's the function of it. Like it pushes in but doesn't do anything.... Look at switching the buttons out with clicky triggers from extreme rate

Can anyone help me regarding the same input for l3 and r3? Everything works fine but every time I press l3; let’s say for sprinting it also presses r3 which makes me crouch.

Same stick. Drift happens a lot
Their new controller is for pc only
NIce video thanks it's very useful.
You are welcome
Thanks for doing this man. I was the guy who asked you way back when. Great vid!
No worries. If you have any other ideas let me know. I want a large part of my content to be fan driven.
@@GearsAndTech that’s great man, good idea! So which do you prefer? The Scuf or the extreme rates buttons and how they feel? Specifically the back buttons, of course.
My long term test video will be out in the next week or so. I'll let you know my thoughts then
Hello and thank your for this video, sorry but my english is so bad :)
So, if I understand well, it's possible to change the PS button of the Scuf controller with the realone (PS button) if I change the front panel too ? Thanks for your help !
Technically yes it is possible.
I don't know why you would want to change it though
@@GearsAndTech Just for the look, I prefer the PS logo 🙊
Hi, what you said 5:00 about the faceplate is not correct as there are a lot more of little plastic clips and divots on the original dualsense faceplate. Otherwise, thanks for the video ✌️
Thanks for the info!
Do you fix controllers for people?? I have crazy stick drift to the left. I’ve taken it apart but to get to the stick itself is tricky and I don’t wanna break it
I'm sorry. I don't.
@@GearsAndTech okay. Thank you!!
Totally agree. It's not user serviceable
Great video. So is it possible to replace the scuf reflex fps click triggers with the extremerate click triggers? Mine stopped clicking for both L2 and R2 and controller is out of warranty
yes, you should be able to. The workmanship of the scuff is a little low end though, so you risk breaking something else on the teardown
Has scuf improved the anologe sticks so they have less chance to get drift
no, they are exactly the same
Any chance of a video going further and removing the front faceplate to get to the D-pad, recently received a custom scuff reflex but the right button on the D-pad is kind of stiff and sticky compared to the rest hoping I can fix to avoid international return to repair
same but with up and left
Yes, the Thumbsticks are pretty easy to desolder and put new ones on for anyone with basic solder experience
Hey I have a scuf and got the extremerate clicky hair trigger kit and was wondering if I can install that in my scuf reflex controller and with what BDM?
Yes. It'll work
So the red one.. I built with extremerate parts. The back button broke multiple times... I brought an aim controller... the back button broke... I brought a scuf reflex fps... I hope I dont have the same problem
This is surprising to me. I made my extreme rate controller a year ago and it's still working great. I game a couple hours almost every night
So amazing always wonder how it look inside 🙌😎
That’s usually due to sweat/dirt build up.. Clean it and I’m sure it will be back to normal. I have an Impact from 2017 that feels just like new.
I took it apart and cleaned it now it’s good to go
Can the reflex thumbstick fit the dualsense? I know the Impact series does
Yes
I have a question, if the Scuf sticks were to start drifting (Common DS5 issue..).. Would you be able to pop transplant in a new PCB assembly from another DS5 controller?. To keep the Scuf shape and function, but replace the sticks.
Yes, you could solder a new stick in
Or use the drift fix solder in solutions.
Hey mate would these thumbsticks fit on a regular ps5 controller without any modifications?
Yes, but you need to take the regular controller apart more to be able to stick them on
@@GearsAndTech Thank you. Have you actually tried it and put the controller back together to confirm it isn't rubbing and can move freely? taking the controller apart won't be an issue as I have done it a couple of times.
For what it's worth, I recommend you just do these instead
Adjustable height Thumbsticks - amzn.to/3FBt1Lg
I know they work for sure, and make it super easy to swap the thumb sticks afterwards
It could be the higher polling rate of the scuf controller.
Ps5 controller can be overclocked to do the same
But the scuf reflex fps isn't $360...it's $240 fully customized....the reflex fps also has instant clicky triggers.
Canadian dollars. Our money isn't as good as yours
can i remove even if digital triggers?
not worth it. ive bought two in the last two months and both have had problems. first one the tiger stopped working. second the paddles stopped mapping.
I did Scuf online and with taxes and shipping it was 381$ They must be out of their minds that ill pay that money for PS5 controller
Could you swap the clicky triggers to a edge?
I don't think so. Edge has trigger stops already
@@GearsAndTech there not clicky tho
It’s like the elite. Half way stop thing. I don’t like it but I love the edge. If I can get clicky triggers on it I’d be happy lol
Great video 👌👌👌
Can I just pop off the R2 and L2 buttons same as the R1 and L1 I noticed they stayed on the whole time in your video.
They don't just pop off, need to remove from inside the controller
@@GearsAndTech my L2 is intermittently unresponsive during game play. Any suggestions?
Mine came with the right D-Pad having to be pressed significantly more than the others. Could be dust or something from the factory. Is there any way to reach it?
You would have to pull it apart. Most likely the rubber membrane is damaged or missaligned
Sell some of them cars you can fund this channel forever 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sorry my man, those are just a green screen.
False advertising I know. But somebody once said to fake it till you make it
So you are screwed if you wanted to put the PS5 🔳⭕️❌🔼 buttons on the Scuf.
From what I can tell those would be able to be put on
My scuf constantly has an issue where my x button r3 button gets stuck “on”. So when I’m flying in warzone I can’t pull my parachute, I break my legs, and then the give up button is r3 so my teammates can’t even save me.
Turn on auto deploy in your settings.
Is there a video on how to put the clicks trigger on a scuff reflex controller?
You would just have to use method I showed in a different video on the regular controller.
It's the exact same process
@@GearsAndTech what about the rat nest under the motherboard, will it be in the way?
No, the clicky triggers are pretty much the same as factory once installed. So it'll go in and back together nicely
... we just pop this front face plate out..... cut. What happened?
Question if you catch stick drift is it easy to just change the modules That’ll be nice video
The modules are not swapable.
There’s different versions of the dualsense controller some have epoxy on the haptics others dont
The first one I took apart was a day one console controller, no epoxy
Which region are you in? Perhaps only certain regions got them. This is interesting.
@@GearsAndTech oh damn I mean I’m from uk Idk when u got ur ps5 but I got mine end of jan last year
I got mine in November 2020. It was a day one launch
Hey, i have a question!! My scuff reflex since lastnight everytime i press L2, L1 trigger it turns off the controller. I have pressed other buttons and everything works normal only when any of those 2 are pressed it turns off the controller. Any thoughts?
Sounds like something is shorting out
Same problem with mine
Did you fix it?
Good video . What I don't understand is why people.buy 300 dollar controllers to play in public lobbies .
How do u take off the R2 and L2 triggers for the Reflex?
You have to pull it apart
Will I face same problems I face in ps5 controller
The only 3rd party controller Scuf ever made was Scuf Vantage 1&2 . Everting else it’s a modification!
Bro i can not get the back of the controller to come apart
My Refles FPS won't charge...or it's VERY hard to get it to. And if you do get it to 100% it don't last too long. Could it be the battery or is something preventing it from charging?
Seems like the charger port is broken
@@GearsAndTech hmm...I actually picked up a donor DS controller (bad drift on RS) thinking it's the battery. So I'm kinda screwed lol
@@GearsAndTech If I take the controller apart how can I confirm it's broken and can it be easily repaired? I can play withe USB cable plugged in no problem but battery icon might not fill up as mentioned. No way it's just a bad battery? Thanks
I broke my bumper following your guide
That sucks.
Hey I really appreciate putting out a teardown of the controller! I have a question for you...Dropped my Reflex a couple nights ago and one of the paddles stopped working. Three of them work fine but seems like the one has lost all functionality. Do you think repairing it myself is viable?
I'm not sure about your specific technical ability.
But with my basic skills I would certainly take it apart and try myself to fix it
@@GearsAndTech Thanks for the Tear down. I am trying to fix the drift in my Scuf Reflex in the left thumb stick. I tried to replace the Potentiometers for the left Stick. You have to do a tear-down to get the sides of the JoyStick Cube to open up enough. I was hoping that your video would go that far with the tear-down.
Sorry. That's a job I'm not interested in
@@GearsAndTech Not sure if you care. But all that I had to do was detach three ribbons and the Circut board was able to be flipped over and I was able to finish the replacement of the Potentiometers. The Rat nest came out as a clump once. not as scary as it looked. Keep up the great content. You help more then you know.
Its shit had mine less than a year both sticks are dieing
Great Video! Liked and Subscribed. I’m having a issue on a almost brand new SCUF reflex PS5 r3 engages l3 and vice versa, I’ve reset and recalibrated, compressed air and alcohol but haven’t taken the controller completely apart yet. If I sent 50 dollar venmo/PayPal, would you please zoom with me for a trouble shoot? Or any advice? Thanks!
That's weird. Only thing I can think is they soldered the wires for r3 and l3 backwards.
East fix is just cut those wires and tape them so they don't touch anything and hope you don't want to remap the back buttons to r3 or l3
@@GearsAndTech they engage their functionality but also the other: example when I try and sprint in COD I’m constantly meleeing without hitting the R3
@@GearsAndTech got it fixed, there was a ribbon that looked out of place based on the video of your open SCUF, it was the ribbon right under L3, then also tightened the screw that hold the mother board to the battery bracket. I’m cracked again

These things are fragile, so it's easy to screw them up
You can’t say $360 price tags and say you don’t have the right quick triggers
I had mines for awhile now but now I’m having trouble. I have the fps version and having trouble with the mic. I plug in my headset and it doesn’t work but the same headset works on all my other ps5 controllers. When I press r1 or r2 my controller disconnects.
I’ve put extremerate parts in my standard ps5 controllers but I’m scared to take down the scuf.

Glad you got it sorted
@@GearsAndTech Thank you, I wasn’t able to fix the headphone jack but imma just get wireless headset.
is it possible to put the scuff analogs on a normal dualsense
Depends what you're asking I guess.
The caps will fit into a regular ps5 controller, however you can't just slide them off the regular controller once the trim is off. You need to pull the controller apart more to swap thumb sticks
Im experiencing a left analog stick drift problem on the scuf reflex. The left stick just keeps moving left on its own. Ive compressed it out, used rubbing alcohol and a qtip, no fixes. I reached out to scuf yesterday cause it is still under warranty but the havent replied yet.
Have you fixed this yet? My Scuf Reflex started doing that last week. Tried all of the things you did but with no luck

Does it work when connected directly to ps5?
Please help.. I had my scuf fps reflex controller R1 button break. How do I fix this? I don’t want to wait for long service wait time. If it’a really simple to fix.
Depends whats broken
If it's the button itself then pop it off and pop a new one on
If it's the function of it. Like it pushes in but doesn't do anything.... Look at switching the buttons out with clicky triggers from extreme rate
@@GearsAndTech It’s the backing of the button that activates the function of the r1 button. I can see it floating around 😖.
Oh that sucks.
Unfortunately regular ps5 buttons don't work in the scuff controller. So you need a replacement button. But they could maybe ship you one and you can swap yourself
They aren't 400 dollars they are 200 and 220 with the grips, great video though
After shipping and exchange it was $380 ish canadian
Can anyone help me regarding the same input for l3 and r3? Everything works fine but every time I press l3; let’s say for sprinting it also presses r3 which makes me crouch.
Other guy that had that issue said the cable was backwards (I think)
Would require you to open it up to check
Must have a bad batch
Yeah I bought the first batch actually; but I think it’s due to maybe the controller taking a hard fall. I opened it up, verified the cables and tightened it a bit more than usual and it seemed to have fixed it.
Thanks for the vid
If they didn’t change the analog sticks then it sucks🤷♂️ happy with my extreme rate
Can you turn the adaptive triggers off on PC ?
Adaptive triggers are off on pc always. You can't turn them on
@@GearsAndTech So if I buy the reflex pro ps5 to play on pc the adaptive triggers won’t work ?
@@GearsAndTech I did ask someone else and they was playing on pc with the reflex pro ps5 and said you can’t turn them off ?
