@@JeffDeath99Lol that doesn't fix it the green thing has a black track that gets worn out because it's made out of carbon/graphite which wears out due to movement from said white thing which is the potentiometer wiper. the black track is the medium for the up/down & left/right electrical signal to be sent which is registered using the white wiper from the movement of the stick

Use flux and a copper braid to remove any remaining solder from the contacts. Always use flux when soldering, wetting and surface tension. You can also check the resistance of the potentiometers before installation. And please, clean the soldering iron tip.

Start with just cleaning the potetiometer with alcohol or electronic cleaner. The black rings on the green part and just change the white wipers. No soldering needed and works 85 percent of the time. Nice video. The method in video will work best if you have had the controller a long time and are hard on the sticks.

Very useful video (for more reasons) but, since it takes several skills in soldering + perfect soldering iron + perfect tin + perfect soldering iron temperature, tin suction pump (cleaner work) (so, absolutely not base tools as not base skills) to do all this, instead of replacing the potentiometers, I recommend simply using dry cleaner electrical contact spray (perhaps the same one you used to clean the soldering iron) directly on the potentiometers and you will go on for years without replacing the potentiometers... then you will do it with base tools

Indeed this is the definitive solution, saying that, I will share what works for me, I opened the potentiometer cases, and proceed to clean it like I always do, doing it only lasted like at most 2 weeks, but the last time I use something different, normally I used isopropyl alcohol, but the last time I used wd-40, I used a q-tip and moist it in wd-40, cleaned the potentiometer track and all the other components, then I used q-tip with isopropyl alcohol and softly clean the excess of wd-40, not pressing to much to remove the wd-40, just gently to take the excess...for the past 2 months I have not had stick drift on my controller, when in the past at most this method only worked for 1-2 weeks, the only thing I noted is that the sticks are squeaky, not at the point is uncomfortable, but there is a squeak.

We should never need to fix this. It's Sony that needs to fix it. Few of us aren't tech minded. Need to fork out for at least £35 to get it fix but aren't garrenteed either . I'm n uk

Отвратительная пайка с большим риском отрыва дорожке на плате,не ковыряй так больше схему иглами - используй оплётку для снятия лишнего олова.

Nope, I’m not going to do that, I don’t trust myself to not screw it up. Going to just buy a new controller whenever I get stick drift.

Sony did this on purpose. They need to make money. After 4 months of use i have the same issue. Bad designed shit

Yes, this is a common problem with almost all controllers. If you want a longer life for your joysticks, avoid touching your controller when your hands are too oily, for example, after eating chips. That is one of the various things that cause this problem.

Legit solution, horrible execution. If you do that you will definitely destroy one of the vias. The correct method would be either leave the green part on and just change the moving parts, or use solder wick or a solder sucker to remove the solder, in that way the pcb will not be damaged.

This is soooop complicated. Sony has to use a better quality part for the amount of money they charge us.
