wow this is the easiest way i found..i thought i had to change the whole joystick. needed a heatgun and all that. this is actually much easier to just change the potentiometer. thank you!
@DIYVidss um you guys know you can change them out without soldering at all, you just bend back the tab and switch out the little white potentiometer disks.
@@JeffDeath99Lol that doesn't fix it the green thing has a black track that gets worn out because it's made out of carbon/graphite which wears out due to movement from said white thing which is the potentiometer wiper. the black track is the medium for the up/down & left/right electrical signal to be sent which is registered using the white wiper from the movement of the stick
Use flux and a copper braid to remove any remaining solder from the contacts. Always use flux when soldering, wetting and surface tension. You can also check the resistance of the potentiometers before installation. And please, clean the soldering iron tip.
@@AexoeroV There are only 3 contacts on the potentiometer) Yes, a multimeter will do, just switch it to resistance measurement mode. For dualsense 2.1 kOhm and 10 kOhm.
Start with just cleaning the potetiometer with alcohol or electronic cleaner. The black rings on the green part and just change the white wipers. No soldering needed and works 85 percent of the time. Nice video. The method in video will work best if you have had the controller a long time and are hard on the sticks.
Very useful video (for more reasons) but, since it takes several skills in soldering + perfect soldering iron + perfect tin + perfect soldering iron temperature, tin suction pump (cleaner work) (so, absolutely not base tools as not base skills) to do all this, instead of replacing the potentiometers, I recommend simply using dry cleaner electrical contact spray (perhaps the same one you used to clean the soldering iron) directly on the potentiometers and you will go on for years without replacing the potentiometers... then you will do it with base tools
Can you install a Hall Effect potentiometer instead of the regular one using this exact method ?? Like would the regular joystick work with a Hall Effect potentiometer or is the hardware different??

Took it apart, went through the whole process of seeing if my stick drift could be fixed, detached one of the black wires by mistake, now trying to see if I can find a way to put the orange L shape ribbon cable back in. Hopefully it will still work without a black wire attached to the board.
Better use a Hall Sensor. You can also buy just the compatible hall effect "pots" ... This together with the new calibration sw solves the drift issue permanently.
Indeed this is the definitive solution, saying that, I will share what works for me, I opened the potentiometer cases, and proceed to clean it like I always do, doing it only lasted like at most 2 weeks, but the last time I use something different, normally I used isopropyl alcohol, but the last time I used wd-40, I used a q-tip and moist it in wd-40, cleaned the potentiometer track and all the other components, then I used q-tip with isopropyl alcohol and softly clean the excess of wd-40, not pressing to much to remove the wd-40, just gently to take the excess...for the past 2 months I have not had stick drift on my controller, when in the past at most this method only worked for 1-2 weeks, the only thing I noted is that the sticks are squeaky, not at the point is uncomfortable, but there is a squeak.

Hello Yesterday I tried to bring on this board. The soldering went fine. But now, after adjusting the potentiometer, the motion range to the other side is less. Did I something wrong?
@@pontiacgrandam1989 Well, when the fix is already out there and these companies do not use it then it's hard not to consider that they are colluding together to fleece the consummer.
Every controlelr manufacturer does that, in fact Sony was the only company selling Hall sensor based gamepads at some point but stopped doing that for some reason.
The analog joystick is still the same as the previous version, it is easily damaged, with a more complicated machine board, it is even more difficult to replace it, for some reason Sony doesn't make the analog one easily removable, even though I hope it is replaced with a socket model
I don't own a PS5 since I'm a Xbox player but opening a PS5 controller looks way more harder than opening a Xbox controller. This is why I prefer to not have a built in battery pack over either the choice of batteries or a interchangeable battery pack.
Try holding the analog stick one direction then Blow into the opposite side as hard as you can. Do this in every direction. It completely stopped my stick drift after I had it for a week. Hope this helps
