I got diagnosed with asperges (i prefer just autism) at age 19 and a year later with cptsd. I was in foster care here and there and my family didn't really care about me. I only had my mother as support, she tried her best when I was a kid. Now I have a husband with a brother with a little stronger autism than me. His whole family has basically adopted me and his brother and i are basically twin's at this point. We're born same year, same month and his day is at the 10th, mine is at the 11th. I never actually had a family that cared about me before my husbands family. Its so nice to finally have a support system
I’m Autistic and Autism Speaks is not a quote ‘wonderful organisation’, nothing against Mat, but any people with autism or parents with Autistic kids please do thorough research before you decide to trust organisations like autism speaks. Autism speaks still run genetic testing in an effort to cure autism, which is not ok. Please don’t come for me in the comments, I don’t mean any hate to anyone but I just want to make sure people get their information from the right places.
Autism is a genetic thing. What is wrong about doing research to make autism less of a problem? I dont think it's possible to remove it. But if there would be a way to make it less present I would take it!
@@chancehendrix7139 okay what would you prefer reaching your goal without problems or reaching your goal with alot of problems? I don't know if you have autism. And autism isn't a bad thing. But it could be very helpful if you can reduce the difficulty of life. Because autism makes life alot harder. Even though it isn't a negative thing.
Im from the San Fernando Valley too. Whenever people in California say " Im from the valley " when they're traveling or going off to college somewhere in this state, everyone knows exactly what valley you're talking about. The SFV!
It's genetic. One or both parents may be on the spectrum or not. It could also skip a generation and go to the children's children. (I hope that makes sense) This is coming from someone who works in the sector
You can help them by not giving them medication, give them rules and train them to fit in. For example, you have to tell them if their behaviour is weird and show them how to do it correctly. You have to find supporting groups, but more importantly neighbours who help to socialise them. If they have problems with kids, pull them out of school and into a safe environment. Make sure the contact with peers stays nice. Tell the other children how important it is that they treat the kid with autism as normal as possible. If the children with autism can work with mimic and recognise emotions and feelings normally, it’s not even Autism in most cases. It’s being not accepted and trying to fit in by fading out and becoming the weirdo. They need more examples to copy. If a boy or a girl doesn’t copy Disney figures and is able to deceiver non verbal cues, it’s a social problem. Some experience being overwhelmed and avoiding contact though from a so early age that the brain structure starts to wire differently. But in all cases behaviour therapy is the key. And exposer to normal human interactions. Don’t let them dwell and mingle with each other and their diagnose. You have to lure them out as young as possible and never ever make it okay to escape into weirdoism, when their social skills are high enough to fit in somewhat. If there are completely closed in, just let them be. Look what they are good at like music or being a geek and just let them live. But in most cases, they could have a somewhat normal life if you just don’t give those children the opportunity to hide and escape. It’s mostly like having some kind of phobia for most people.
As a neurodivergent person, that is exactly what you DON’T do to kids with mental or cognitive disabilities. That’s what you do if you want them to have PTSD and hate you for the rest of their lives. I’m shocked that somebody would actually give this kind of “advice” to a family who clearly knows their children and what works for them. How about we stop judging people for what they are or aren’t doing?
You are saying everything someone should NOT do to a child or person who has autism. Please go educate yourself from credible sources, including talking to people who actually have autism and are neurodivergent.
As someone who has Autism I just want to say that you're talking out of your ass. That's a bunch of stuff not to do with an Autistic/Nueoedivergent kid. Please for the love of God do some research from somewhere other than Autism $peaks before you make comments on the internet that make you look like an ableist ass.

@TRW98
That sounds like something I would expect a person who supports ABA therapy to say.

Let's accept autism ❤

I was enjoying the video until i heard Autism Speaks. Like, are you serious?!
my mom raised 6 of us with autism or adhd and took care of a husband with schizophrenia
‘True real autism’ ?
The dad talks about Autism Speaks like he joined a cult.
I think it’s terrible that Autism Speaks would hire a man that just refuses to pay his rent because he’s moving out anyway.
I follow Toren Wolf's channel. His family is the brady bunch of autism to me.
Sameeeee
Beautiful story
6 different school ! Omg !
For reals. I can't imagine trying to coordinate schedules for 6 different schools. 😱

And ?
So it is genetic or is it gut health ?
Probably genetic
