It is child neglect and that’s why I don’t trust social services more should be done we are in the uk children are our future and people wonder why this generation is a generation of vipers 😢
It is willful ignorance, they are told to do better, they are told what and why there is a problem but they chose not to change their behaviour. One continuing to smoke thinking it is air pollution causing the ear problem (beceuase he does not want to quit smoking) and the other thinking a genetic condition is causing the child to be overweight even though she feeds him treats and gives him minimal exercise and this is because she cannot be bothered to say no and take her kid out for exercise because she want to do what is easy.

You can't keep the kid locked up 24/7. Parents can't control what their kids do at school or out in the community, especially in a country like the UK where a 13 year old kid can buy liquor at any liquor store. I grew up in 1950's Michigan, USA which at the time didn't have a drinking age, either. Someone could get a drink as soon as he could see over the liquor store counter or barely climb up on a barstool. Now in Michigan, USA the clerk gets the hell fined out of him and the liquor store risks losing its liquor license if they sell to anyone under 21, I think 16 or 18 would be more appropriate but either way no 13 year old should be waltzing into the liquor store and buying vodka.
@@mharris5047 no, you can't buy alcohol as a child in the UK, that is a criminal offence and yes is neglect from the parents when your child have got access to it perhaps they are themselves alcoholics.

Its the mothers responsibility to help him find happiness and bliss in other ways. Blaming the community can only go so far, next she’ll be blaming the world.
Doctor dealing with the obese kid has the patience of a saint. The mother claiming 'genetics'. It must be difficult dealing with this kind of thing. The doctor even had to tell the child not to mess with the expensive equipment because the mother wasn't paying attention.

Leon’s mum is highly in denial… in 2 hours the kid had enough to last him a day, if you added a sandwich in the mix alongside the cake! And his tea was an adults size portion! The poor kid can barely walk. Setting him up for failure as an adult.
As a child in the 70s, I suffered from chronic ear infections and tooth decay. Parent and grandparents were chain smokers. I ate too many sweets and wasn't taught dental hygiene. I suffered terribly and often could not concentrate in school because of the pain. I knew better as a parent and did better with my own children.
Our parents and grandparents all smoked but we didn't get sick from it. I can remember not liking it when they smoked in the car during the winter because the windows were closed, but were accustomed to it because so many people did it everywhere all the time.
I think the title of this needs to be changed. The documentary doesn’t contain a child drinking a bottle a day at all and it also infers that it’s the kid in the thumbnail which is frankly incorrect and could have a knock on effect to his personal life.

I feel so much for the children being affected by the parents who smoke. My husband lived with 4 chain smokers and is paying terribly with COPD breathing issues and severe asthma due to his family’s terrible choices. As a child he was driven outside constantly to the front porch to get away from the gross smell and poison. children don’t get a choice!
Yea I doubt it if it was due solely to the smoking! Lots of kids from my generation had parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.. that would smoke around us and most of us didn’t end up with all those issues! Make no mistake we know much better today about second hand smoking and smoking in general given that even doctors at one point would smoke while examine you! I hope all these kids made great recoveries eventually and I hope more parents including myself are not too relaxed about everything.
Stop letting your 5yr old tell you what to do in regards to food. To me this is child abuse because it’s no longer adults having heart attacks. Kids are as well. I almost ended up in the hospital because the drivers car smelled like smoke. He said he smokes outside. I have asthma. Reports were made and he got fired. When I was teaching karate we had a student who smelled like an ash tray. This poor girl had to be taught outside because we had kids and myself with asthma and allergies.

His mother is in denial and very defensive. She needs to give her son smaller portions of food. Food rich in fiber and protein. No junk food.
Paul and Libby are beautiful children. I really feel for them. Their mum seems like she doesn’t have teeth either so what example or chance do they have?
I quit vaping two different times for my daughter. I didn't think it could affect her until recently. The original reasons I quit was because she asked me to and she's my baby girl. I felt I had failed her as her mother😭 I did. I take full responsibility for that and won't go back to vaping ever again. Stress can be managed without nasty and expensive habits. God! This man and his wife are making crappy excuses. Their poor kids 😢 We need to do our best for our babies!
My much younger brother and sister (I am 78, they are in their 40's) both had to have tubes placed in their eardrums, we don't call it "glue ear" here in the States but I had never thought about smoking affecting kids eardrums (and I smoked cigars for years, I usually kept it to my office or outside but I wasn't the only relative they have that smoked). Such treatments didn't exist in the 1950's and everyone smoked everywhere. My sister doesn't even allow smoking in her house nowadays, she even made the BF she had that smoked pot to take it outside or to the garage (he was a nice enough guy, he just liked his pot a LOT). I quit smoking years ago but to this day I don't care if someone smokes in my house as long as they aren't burning holes in my carpet or furniture.
My eldest son had to have grommets in his ears at age five, owing to glue ear, but he didn't get it from a smoky environment because nobody in our house smoked; not caused from cigarette inhalation.
What incredible poor parenting! The children are running their parents! It's disgusting. No means no and yes means yes and these kids just get what they want because these parents can't stand them crying and throwing tantrums. You can be sure that these kids will rot their second teeth out and they will raise their own kids as they were raised. It's child abuse! It's a crime!
I am in my 40s and teach skiing to schoolchildren. Most of them are between 9 and 12 years old. I see how unfit they are every day. It's shocking when a 10-year-old sweats so much that the water runs out of their helmet after 30 minutes of skiing. This has never happened to me, even after 6 hours of hardcore skiing.
No sugar, No simple carbohydrates, No soda and No chips. All of these need to be banned into those households. And I can't believe I'm saying this for children, No alcohol
This is child abuse. I can't believe what i am seeing. These young children are completely dependent on their ignorant parents. The parents need some straight talking to.
Parents should no better than destroy/ harm their childrens live. A 3 year old cant go to the shop and buy loads of lollipops. The mothers buys and feeds. Its very sad that these parents are not educated enough
These parents are a disgrace they've set their kids up for disaster..... I first watched this back in 2010 I've always wondered what happen to the kids and parents on this programme
TO ALFIES MOM IT IS YOUR FAULT!! Your the one giving him a bottle he should NOT be on a bottle at his age that causes bottle rot you can’t possibly be that naive and giving him candy 🍭 to “shut him up” are you fkn kidding me STOP spoiling n neglecting him I feel so bad for ur kid take some responsibility
The nurse when talking to Alex’s father uses the word “ really “ to soften her message….. rather than offend. Nurse talking to Mark’s mother uses the word “ perhaps “ again softening the message.
why are these doctors treating the child they should be treating the parents that is the problem they act the doctor as if it sis not their fault when it is really stupid to act this way as a doctor and not question the mother that is what is wrong with our medical teams today not child fault at all and using stepping stone to diagnose when they really know it is the parent to blame
All of these cases are very troubling and parents either ignorant or in denial. Leon's mother I think needs to see a mental health therapist. She is actively killing her child and that is most definitely child abuse. It is literally heart breaking to see this 5 year old little boy in such a state. His childhood and health destroyed by her and the side kick grandmother.
Omg I always had ear infections as a baby until I was a teenager. I thought it was from the swimming pool. I didn't stop swimming with my ear infections either. My mom smoked in our house, and I hated it. When we moved, the walls were yellow and gross. I told my mom this is what my lungs probably look like. I begged my mom not to smoke inside of our house. I still suffer from hearing problems and ear infections. I don't smoke, and when I did, I never smoked inside my house or car. I'm very grateful I quit smoking. Now I get sick, even smelling someone smoking cigarettes.
Don’t feel bad. You did the right thing Anjella. Someone who doesn’t care about the welfare of themselves or their child doesn’t deserve your friendship.
I had tubes in my ears when I was 2. They actually thought I was deaf. We don't call it blue ear in America, we just call it tubes in the ears... Because that's exactly what they put in your ears...
That little boy is absolutely eating too much. I understand she loves her little boy and if she won't do as the doctors say. She needs to start paying for funeral services.
I hope the profits made from this "documentary" went to getting these kids some help. Not every parent deserves a child, but every child deserves a parent. I really hope these poor babies got some help.
As an American who was raised eating healthy and raised healthy kids it had as much to do with giving them the best life but also because we have to pay for our healthcare and it's expensive AF! Maybe tell these parents if they don't start making "Johnny" lose weight or "Jenny" has better tooth care! I bet they start doing it!
I’m going to say that you 🇺🇸 were a lucky individual, as am I 🇨🇦. Because North America as a whole Canada, and the United States ( I don’t know about Mexico) have horrible rates of morbid obesity in children. Also in adults unbelievable percentages of diseases and illnesses related to adult obesity. Diabetes, circulation problems, stroke, heart attack kidney function issues and certain cancers etc etc have a co morbidity of obesity. Not everyone who has a heart attack or stroke is obese but … The other issue is education and ability to earn a decent income so to provide healthy foods and meals as educate their children into making healthy choices. I’m retired however, I remember making house calls to families of all incomes. The cheapest foods are often more than not high fat high sugar. I’m on a fixed income now and I can see why parents who don’t make a decent wage buy the foods they do. In addition the ads for soda pop, candy, cereals even make things appealing to kids. Here in Canada a few years back they have decided to increase the tax on soft drinks, sweets, Candy chocolate etc. The computer age has also changed the amount of activity that children get. As a kid, We would drop off our books at home, change and play outside until dinner. That doesn’t happen today. People have to change. For years I used to say they need to increase tax all junk food, smokes of all kinds (pot is legal in Canada), and alcohol. Save the taxes from this stuff to be used for the healthcare treatment that these people will need.
Macaulay is going to be a bad alcoholic if he doesnt get help like yestetday. So sad. He didnt say he drinks to have fun, he drinks to feel better. Why does he need to feel better at 13? Get him help please.
leon's mother refusing to acknowledge her possible overfeeding her son AND treating the interviewer who's trying to reason with her as the single most stupid individual on planet earth is insane. is she really sure she's doing everything in her power to prevent his son from developing further health problems down the line? smh
Agreed. They don't need a binky after age one, either! I know of one kid that had his two top front teeth grow horizontal instead of vertical due to him always having a binky in his mouth. When the kid's mother finally took it away from him at age three his teeth became vertical like they are supposed to be but I thought for sure he was going to need those teeth pulled!
That Alder Hey Medical Director must've been told a really good joke prior to filming. The bloke keeps holding back laughter while talking about the serious problems their 200k children a year face. Oh well. As long as he was paid well and had a good time eh.
He was a great doctor back in the day he saved my life, he went to work in Londons hospitals an then came back to Alder Hey as director again but hes left now
You have really poor observational skills. That’s just the way he speaks, and interestingly that’s the way a lot of executives speak. He’s trying to look engaged and concerned, thinking really carefully about what he’s going to say because he’s normally the one in the position where he’s asking the questions. Also, it’s pretty obvious he’s had some kind of augmentation done (perhaps cheek implants or cheek lifts) and it affects the way his face moves. In actuality you can tell these situations do make him very angry - he’s just trying his best to hold it back. I don’t think anyone choosing to work for the NHS has their income at the top of their mind the NHS is a non-profit health system.

When was this filmed? It looks like it was over a decade ago to me but I may be wrong..
It is old yeah
2009
The dad smoking inside right next to his child should lose custody...
My heart goes out to Alfie & his mom Michelle! 😢
Wowza that is how parents are supposed to be taking care of their children
These parents need serious adjustments to their parenting. It’s DEFINITELY neglect along with child abuse.
I hope Mark's dad doesn't vote.
No sugar, No simple carbohydrates, No soda and No chips. All of these need to be banned into those households. And I can't believe I'm saying this for children, No alcohol
If you value your children's health (and yours), STOP smoking.
Exactly 👏@@gbriank1
Imagine putting your own child through this kind of pain and abuse that causes severe bad health. Totally avoidable.
This is an entitlement issue. These parents are being intentionally neglectful. This is lazy parenting and child abuse.
This is child abuse. I can't believe what i am seeing. These young children are completely dependent on their ignorant parents. The parents need some straight talking to.
Ignorance and child abuse.
Parents should no better than destroy/ harm their childrens live. A 3 year old cant go to the shop and buy loads of lollipops. The mothers buys and feeds. Its very sad that these parents are not educated enough
This not only neglect but abuse to. You need a license to drive a car but everyone can get a kid. So sad
Sad, sad, sad how can anyone think this is ok”
Care about yourself, take care of your children.
These poor kids
This is in large part child abuse. There should be parenting classes & jail for a few of these parents.
These so-called parents should be in prison!
48:51 if the child asked her for a cigarette then she obviously normally gives them to children… lowkey evil
18 to buy em now but 16+ to smoke em, he might’ve been 16…
Kaitlin brothers are wonderful and mom is lucky to Have such wonderful little men
All i can say is ,well dont buy the stuff or have it at home ,rest of family wont die from no tomato sauce
the chemicals in our food has messed up the hormones.
The Dr. keeps talking about Leon like he’s the problem and won’t place the words and the problem in front of his Mother and Grandmother
Katelyn... has her mum heard of the word no???
All of these cases are very troubling and parents either ignorant or in denial. Leon's mother I think needs to see a mental health therapist. She is actively killing her child and that is most definitely child abuse. It is literally heart breaking to see this 5 year old little boy in such a state. His childhood and health destroyed by her and the side kick grandmother.
Do not give kids food choices. Put in front of them what they will be eating. A child does not need that choice.
wow fell for the clickbait again😐
Finland is about to start weightloss surgery for under 18 years old teens. Sad, we are at the track as families in this program.
That's child neglect
Correct the title!!!!
Paul's mother looks like she's 80..these poor kids. These parents are literally daft, delusional and stubborn
These parents should be prosecuted, it's child neglect.
This is shocking. I have five year old twin boys. They both weigh 30lbs.
Child abuse. Charge the damn parents.
I've been to Alder Hey as a baby
A bottle of Vodka everyday, is a lot. But not as much as half a bottle once a week.......
I sent someone I thought I was close with an article on smoking while pregnant, and she said I wasn't allowed in her home anymore.
She also smacks her kids hands and backs of heads.
Jesus, when I drank i couldn't drink vodka straight
I love The Goonies reference they gave by naming their kid 'Lawrence '.
Where is cps???
After bariatric the addiction needs to be treated still
Macaulay is going to be a bad alcoholic if he doesnt get help like yestetday. So sad. He didnt say he drinks to have fun, he drinks to feel better. Why does he need to feel better at 13? Get him help please.
leon's mother refusing to acknowledge her possible overfeeding her son AND treating the interviewer who's trying to reason with her as the single most stupid individual on planet earth is insane. is she really sure she's doing everything in her power to prevent his son from developing further health problems down the line? smh
The title is misleading.
I like Dr.Didi
They don't need a bottle after one year of age give them a cup
If they're old enough to ask for it they're too old, I never had a dummy and neither did my sister's. dummy - Binky
