Great list! I'm going to struggle not to go buy those on your list I don't already own.

I like a beginners book just called " Mushrooms ", by Thomas Laessoe. Its published by Dorling Kindersley . I was clocking up a lot more " hits " more quickly with this book than any other that I tried , including Roger Phillips . And I think quick hits are very important for a beginner , if they're not to become discouraged . The success was largely due to the very simple, idiot-proof keys in the book .
The main shortcoming of the book is that it only covers about 500 species.

Does The books " Fungi of Temperate Europe" tell you if the mushrooms are edible? or are they just describing the mushrooms? I want them if they have actual helpful info in them.

As above, yes it does contain some edibility information. But it’s not really a book aimed at foraging

@@UKWILDCRAFTS I guess it wouldn't be good for us to know how many edible mushrooms their are. In fact....what is edible and used to heal should be just as important to the people making these books. world is backwards

Wow! The link you provide for the First Nature website is an absolutely marvellous resource, sir, and the information you provide is wonderful. The website is one that I can safely say I WILL be visiting repeatedly. (Unfortunately, I'm not in a position, financially, to be able to purchase physical books, though I dearly would love to be, so resources like this are a God/dess send.)

Fortunayely the best guide I red and carry with me is in romanian and written by 2 Hungarian's origin mycologists. I am searching for Fungi of temperate Europe wich I think is the best book for passionate as a deep lecture.
    Greetings from România!
