You are correct, when your battery is fuller you charge slower. I also noticed another car charging in the spot next to you. When you are plugged into a spot next to someone it cuts the charge rate in half... Notice chargers are marked... ex 1a 1b 2a 2b etc... A & B are on the same power.
Congrats on your new Model 3!!! We have had ours for 6 months now and absolutely love it. Most of our charging is simply plugging in to a regular 110 wall outlet in our garage overnight. At 5 MPH that gives us 50-70 more miles for the next days running around town. For fast supercharging the sweet spot is to start charging when the battery is down around 20% and stop charging when it is 80%. You will get that 20 to 80 charge in about 20 minutes. Charging to 100% that last 20% takes a long time, the system is slowing it down to protect the battery. Try not to share a supercharger with another car. For example if a car is at charger 1A do not charge right next to them at 1B. You're sharing the power and usually results in charging at 1/2 speed. You may already know this stuff if not hope it helps. Take care. Brian
First car gets priority depending on how full their battery is. If the first car is a 100D, they will get 120kw until you plug in, once you plug in you will get around 30kw and they will drop to 90kw until their battery reaches a level where chargings slows, at this point your speed will increase and you get priority over the next car to plug into the shared stall. You seemed to have plugged in soon after the other car had started tapering off. Chargers are numbered A and B, always avoid parking next to or in the same charger as another car when possible.
You are already at 150 miles which at that point, the charging rate would be slower. You get more peak rates when you are below 50 miles. Also you have your limit set at 100 percent it looks like. The time is figured including charging that top 10 percent which is the slowest charging time. If you set your limit at 90 which it should be on a daily basis, your time would be much less. That top 10 percent from 90 to 100, can take as long as going from 30 to 90 percent.
4:29 you will charge up to 300 mph if you are low on charge 10 to 30%. That only last till about 50 or 55% then the charge slows down to protect the battery.
it charges slower when your battery is near full, just like your phone. also you should stagger the chargers. they are usually 1A 1B, 2A 2B etc. if someone is plugged into 1A plug into 2A not 1B because the A and B share the same battery source so you'll both charge slower.
You shouldn't be charging to 100 it will cause accelerated battery degredation, charge to 80 daily and 90 for trips. Also you shared a supercharging stall, so that is probably causing your slow speed. All the best with your new car.
Tesla FAQ *Do Superchargers in urban areas charge as quickly as other Superchargers? How long will charging take?* Superchargers in urban areas deliver a nearly consistent 72 kilowatts (kW) of power, even if another Tesla begins charging in an adjacent stall. This creates a predictable charging experience with an average Supercharging session lasting around 45-50 minutes in city centers. *How can I maximize power and reduce charge time at a Supercharger?* Each charge post is labeled with a number and letter, either A or B (e.g. 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B). When possible, select a charge post with a unique number that is not currently connected to a vehicle. When a unique number isn’t available, the Supercharger cabinet has technology to share available power between charge posts A and B. To maximize power, park at a Supercharger shared with a car that is nearly done charging. Superchargers in urban areas do not share available power; each car has dedicated power available.
Hi 231, these two FAQ's from Tesla can be confusing if read together, so I'm just trying to clarify for anyone who might be confused after reading this. Urban superchargers (the small grey ones usually found in urban parking structures) stand only a few feet tall and have dedicated power to each stall. They will output 72kW under ideal charging conditions. You do not need to worry about parking next to someone and causing the power to split between stalls on these. v2 Superchargers are the typical red and white chargers that come to mind when thinking of superchargers - v3 which is not widely available yet looks almost identical to v2 with the exception of a thinner charging cable. These will split 147kW between a numbered pair of charging stalls ie. 1A & 1B. v2 Superchargers are currently limited to 120kW max per stall when not shared and will dynamically share the total available 147kW when split between two actively charging vehicles. This is why on a v2 supercharger the common courtesy is to avoid sharing a common charging cabinet number until the location is at least 50% occupied - kind of like urinals in a public restroom heh. On a side note, Tesla is currently rolling out software updates to all v2 superchargers to unlock the aforementioned 120kW limit to the maximum available 147kW, all other factors remaining unchanged.
I’m so happy for you! It’s really an amazing car!!! If you could use my referral code so we both get free Supercharging miles I’d highly appreciate it ❤️❤️
From what I see on the website, only the premium models come with the "location-aware garage door opener." Just wondering why folks are thinking that is something that is coming on the Premium Plus models?
I had the same soft of charge rates too. Had about 50miles of range left, connected to the super charger (no sharing stalls), and was charging only at about 35kW. That's very slow for super chargers, I hope this is a mistake that can be fixed with a software update and not a limitation on the standard size battery that we were not aware of.
No, the map had the station rated to 120kW. Even the urban ones are supposed to be 75kW speeds. I'll try it out tomorrow and follow up with tesla support.
You just got the standard range place with autopilot right? No. Driving? I'm trying to figure out how much that would cost after taxes and all that's what I'm trying to get
Any version of Model 3 can use Autopilot. And you can buy the autopilot before or after purchasing the car, in case, this would be like a purchase in the apple store.
You started at 57% SOC and you were range charging. To have charged to 90% would have cut your time to 30-35 min. Other posts here are correct don't share a charger if you don't have to based on the Number. Could have cut a 90% charge to Less than 30min.
FYI when you are sharing a charging stall you also share the amount of power allotted. This means your car will charge slower unless you have your own stall, which is why that Blue 3 probably spaced itself out so much! How long did it take for you to get your SR+ from when you ordered it? I live in the same area and ordered a blue LR last weekend! Here's hoping the Tampa Tesla calls me to schedule delivery fast!!
Not entirely true. As intended, you can charge it to 100% when you are going on a trip and charge to 80% on a regular basis. But if you never go on trips, you should still charge it to 100% every 3 weeks or so....I think Kim at "Like Tesla" did a video about it...she confirmed it with Elon.
