I m a regular guy that feeds stray dogs then going for a walk and i have met alot of pet lovers that help stray dogs too. One thing to keep in mind, most people involved in pet industry will be overly pushing the idea of multiple things to buy and do when having a dog. In reality most of the things suggested u can live without. An example is the marketing industry behind treats, just give ur dog training time with his regular food at feeding hours (that way u can train and feed up to 2-3 times a day in short sessions). As a note of reference, i have seen alot of "professionals vets" bombarding future pet owners with so much information and extra non essensial things to take/do/consider that they stray people away from pet ownership ....Which is something to keep in mind when u give info to people that are ignorant.
A funny similar situation with pet marketing would be with shops selling PS2 consoles. Back then, maybe the main reason ps2 was so popular for shops was because it had alot of extra things to sell with (extra controllers, memory cards, tv controller for the movies....and the list goes on and on). People working in shops were instructed to suggest the "extras" in a way that they seemed to be essential to the ignorant parent that just wanted to make the kids happy.
