I remember 20 years ago, my friend who is from China, just graduated from ntu and immediately receive a letter to take up citizenship. Not even pr or anything, it’s citizenship! She was on dean’s list. She rejected because she wanted to return to China, said she has got to be loyal to China报效祖国 lor 😅. Somehow she stayed for 20 years and got citizenship again with just 1 application. Her PR status was also upon invitation letter last time. I guess it has got to do with her good results in ntu and she being the departmental head and head researcher with dsta (government statutory board).

Don't understand why the motivation to leave China & be citizens elsewhere.
China looks like it's where the future is. Also China seems to be a gigantic version of Singapore anyway - but with large natural resources, landmass & where 7 of the world's top 10 best universities are located.
There is also no way any foreigner can be a citizen of China, the best being PR being married to their locals.
What's wrong with being citizens of China ?

Re-applying PR when nothing change except little increase in salary shows that PR application is too cheap and everyone is applying it like buying TOTO. Have you found out why you fail the last time? It could be due to small error with your documents, for example documents not endorsed, not translated....If its due to mistake on your part and it keeps repeating, you deserve to be rejected for wasting their time since you are not interested. They might even tell you when is the best time to reapply again after you improve on the criteria that you have not met.

I always like both Karman and your show… yes, a lot of comments about PR application. My own personal thought is that, it is best to apply if there is a change in your local status, e.g. married, or you did some contribution to local community e.g. volunteer etc. if not, then wait for a full yr and try again and that will be betting on the number of tries which is not really ideal.

Getting a PR nowadays is undeniably getting more difficult as the govt have raised the bar on the criteria. Even if you have been unsuccessful twice, do not be disheartened and continue to apply once you are eligible again. Am sure you should be successful eventually. Another route to fast track your application and stand a better chance is thru marriage to a Singaporean. Since you already have a Singaporean boyfriend, and I assume both of you will eventually get married. Once married, if you are still unsuccessful, you can apply on account of your status as the wife of a Singaporean, and will stand a even better chance if you have a stable job, and especially if you have a Singaporean child. Good luck to you!

Actually the reason why housing is getting more and more ex in sg is due to the rising household income. Cos' many foreigners are getting higher and higher pay in the hope of getting a PR. After getting a PR, they will buy HDB flats which are supposed to be subsided flats for citizens. This drive up the demand and that's why you can see more and more flats are being built everywhere in sg. And price are getting higher as PRs are getting richer and willing to pay more for better location and facilities. Many also have bought a condo even. I am sure you will get your PR one day when you have worked here long enough. Don't give up. Gambatte.😀

Don’t be sad, you are not actually missing out on anything… I was working in Singapore and had successfully got my PR application on the first time. Same for my driver’s’ license exam too without even studying it. As not being PR, you have more freedom to go to casino and getting duty free stuff. Once you become PR, they treat you like a citizen but not with the same status.
To be honest, I also gave up my PR a few years after getting it as I don’t like the lifestyle and the work life balance… I am in Australia and I think it’s a better place. I’ve tried life in condos and HDB, I really prefer living in a house and getting a better car than paying for COE. I can blast TV or music in the house anytime and there’s no weird cooking smells from neighbours. I prefer more steak and wine but these aren’t easily available, same as “fresh” seafood… HK style fresh, not ASEAN style fresh. Think about your long term goals before jumping onto the PR bandwagon… and I’d like to congratulate PAP in winning the upcoming elections to come. You have to look deeper for your destiny and if it’s the place you like to retire. Think about if the old HK is not going to be there anymore 😢

To be honest, the advantages of getting a PR is getting more limited. Especially for HKERS, use to be HDB is a good attraction for obtaining PR. But with HDB and housing prices getting more expensive, flats getting smaller (becoming like HK).... there isn't any attractiveness to being a PR or Citizen.
There are so much more demand of other factors that come to play besides HDB... quality of life, children up bringing...etc. sorry to say that SG is really lack off.
But at least a PR, gives some assurance on jobs... And also, with PR... You don't have to be COMMITTED to live in SG, if some thing bad happens, you can always leave and return to your country of CITIZENSHIP.
Don't forget, you can't carry dual citizenship if you want to be citizens. Or perhaps, just get PR and stay as a PR.

The other day, another UA-camr Ghib San managed to get PR after one year. I think he has got something to show for contribution to Singapore via his UA-cam videos introducing Singapore internationally in English although he mix in with some Japanese. For you, your audience is limited to those who can understand Cantonese and I don’t really think you tried hard to integrate into our environment by adopting English or even Mandarin as your main choice of language. For me, I believe Ghib’s PR is well deserved!

    • @DarrenSeacliffe90
      @DarrenSeacliffe90 Рік тому +2

I think you're very wrong. Irene's from Hong Kong and she's making her videos to tell her fellow Hongkongners about Singapore. It's only natural she uses Cantonese in her videos to reach out to them. Watching some recent videos, it seems Irene's accent has localized. Her Chinese and English sound almost like ours. Probably because she's already been using Chinese and English a lot offline. And also probably because she does interact with us more. Just because she chooses to use Cantonese in her videos promoting Singapore to Hongkongners when it's their language doesn't make her any less Singaporean than Ghib who's promoting Singapore to an international audience. At least she's doing her part as a wannabe Singaporean by promoting our culture and lifestyle and educating others about our ways and habits. The only way she's different is her choice of language and that's inevitable when that's what her main audience is using.

At the same time, I’m just voicing out based on my own opinion, it may have come across as a bit rude, I apologise to her for that. Our language should be adopted if you wish to integrate to our society. If you insist on speaking your own language, it will not have the same value as someone who tries hard to speak in our languages. That’s my point.
