Latvian food was amazing!! It was great tasting all the different traditional plates of Latvia and as you can see Riga is such a beautiful city, specially during the winter! Enjoy the vlog!! I'll post a vlog talking about my general experience in the city of Riga soon, so stay tuned! ❄️
Thank you Fonsi for exploring my country's cuisine, I love seeing foreigners do that ❤ I know our food it's not for everyone, and yes, it indeed is intended to make you warm and prepared for the harsh and cold weather that we often have here in Latvia. Also our food is mostly comfort food as well, that's the way that I would describe it in a nutshell.
Yes, the world is full of surprises. I didn't expect Riga to be such an interesting city. I'd definitely recommend visit here and the food is amazing!! 🍲❄️
@@fonsiabroad as a Latvian i dont live in Rīga but ive been there and its pretty cool, also it has a lot of traffic in any Time that isnt winter. also i havent Seen the type of food in the video in latvia, def gonna try the foods. I was Kind of expecting a LOT of soul considering in Latvia we have lots of soup
Great video ..try those potato pancakes again though … also a huge favorite in Poland …try are good with sour cream or apple sauce . Cheers and thanks for showing a little Of Latvia
I have to give them another chance next time I visit Latvia or Poland! Apple sauce sounds like a perfect accompaniment. The rest of the food was incredible👏
I was pleasantly surprised about the food when i visited Latvia. Really delicous hearty food! I tried a dish in Jūrmala in a small wooden house/restaurant. I don't remember the name of the dish but i was a ceramic pot with lamb, potatoes, vegetables and different spices in it. Maybe also cheese? Is there anyone knowing the name of it? It was served with black bread.
I just checked the menu of Province - it's quite expensive! 12euro for one portion of Pelmeņi?! There was one restaurant where you could similar or even bigger portion for 5eur! But unfortunately they closed some time ago... Also potatoe pancakes for 9 euro are super expensive for regular Latvian. But I'm very glad you enjoyed Latvian food!
I think these are the prices of restaurants in Riga? Riga is a relatively expensive city. Without a doubt, the prices of food (including traditional food) in roadside taverns/pubs/bistros and smaller restaurants outside the capital are more democratic.
Latvian cuisine has been greatly enriched by neighboring and not only neighboring nations. Caucasian shashlik has become our traditional Midsummer meal! The cuisine of the Slavic peoples, the German cuisine, and recently also the cuisines of more distant nations have always inspired Latvian cooks and housewives to try something new and experiment. Dumpling-type dishes are widely experienced in Slavic, Caucasian and Central Asian cuisine, and Italian ravioli are also well known. My granny, an Ukrainian, always made sweet dumplings (vareniki) with berries - blueberries or cherries in the summer, and served them with sour or sweet cream.
Good video fonsi...and how you reached there? Metro? Your videos are good but can you pls add some more stuffs (like the transport, the local people, the spots to visit there, the hotel to stay and some of their different culture if any. Dont get red on me 😅
Thanks for the feedback! This vlog is focused on food only but I'll definetly do a vlog about the city with tips and things I've experienced on my visit. I can't wait to share my full experience in the city and I'll try to expand on the elements you mention in depth in the future :)

You must visit not Riga, but real Latvia far away from capital. In Riga prices are crazy and comfort level is not so high.

Thank you for visiting my homeland
Fun fact: Riga was created in 1201
Those dumplings can be served with sour cream for a milder taste than oil.

Name should be Stew in a clay pot
Yes, food in Latvia is such a hidden gem. Fantastic cuisine that feels very authentic and perfect for the cold weather 🙌
@@juns82jk thank you, i found it.
It sounds like you ate one of the stew's that we usually serve in a clay pot here in Latvia - that way it tastes the best.

Hey Alfonso are visit in Bangkok as well ? Really want meet you
Actually dumplings is not typical Latvian food
Yes, I was told it's not something that's specific to the area but more of an influence from the Polish / Russian.
Latvian cuisine has been greatly enriched by neighboring and not only neighboring nations. Caucasian shashlik has become our traditional Midsummer meal! My granny, an Ukrainian, always made sweet dumplings (vareniki) with berries - blueberries or cherries in the summer, and served them with sour or sweet cream.
You actually pronounced the dumplings (pelmeņi) correctly the second time you said it, but corrected it in the video as pelemi afterwards.😁
wow haha thank you for letting me know. I was so wrong about it 😂 It tasted amazing anyways!
Original Balsam is nasty af, the purple one is the best
