  • In the wake of George Floyd’s murder, the city council in Burlington, Vermont voted to divert part of its police budget to social and racial justice programs, but working officers began to leave faster than anticipated. Often just five officers are on shift for a city of more than 44,000. This fall, the city council voted to bring back more officers, and the department hired social workers to handle mental health calls and other community issues.» Subscribe to NBC News: nbcnews.to/SubscribeToNBC

Their peaceful and generous nature make them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real estate values are fueled by the mix of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, an example of all they have achieved through their enthusiasm for self improvement by hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature. I am a native South Burlington Vermonter and just moved out of the state a year ago due to the radical progressive policies, and VT in general not supporting the middle class. All middle class are fleeing. The only ones coming into the state are people looking to mooch off the system, as VT has one of the best welfare systems in the nation. That is the only reason it is listed as one of the top states people were moving to during the pandemic. That is fact. Anyway, I had not been back to Burlington since right before the pandemic. Yesterday, I went back for the first time since 2019 to visit Burlington, mainly to walk up Church Street, and it was literally the first time in my life (I had lived in VT for 41 years) that I was afraid for my safely. Keep in mind it was a Sunday at 4 pm, broad daylight. Church Street was overrun by homeless drug addicts. I literally had a 20 something year old girl come up to me and my 15 year old son, high on something with track marks up and down her arms, demanding we give her money to “fix her car.” She got into our faces and we both bolted away from her. This was right in front of Nectar’s, on our way to Church Street. Church Street, the main strip in Burlington, was filthy, full of garbage, homeless sleeping on the sides of the streets in front of shop doors, the once beautiful brick road was now completely damaged and in decay and businesses, as well as the streets were baron compared to what they once were, and yes, even on a Sunday afternoon. This is a disgrace what these disgusting politicians have been allowed to do, all in the name of “social justice” and equality. Please. This is the fasted way to create socialist communism and to have the government control the people. With the middle class gone and only low life welfare recipients around, the rich control the poor. It is a tale as old as time. I will not be returning to VT, especially not Burlington or the surrounding towns, which is sadly where I grew up and had great memories of. Thank God I fled.

If you add one key to each one of these "police brutality" claims of whether or not the criminal fought or ran, you will easily start seeing a pattern, unless you're completely stupid or a liberal. If you had to fight the same criminals day in day out because it's "racist" to put them in jail for crimes, I am sure you wouldn't wear kid gloves.

Second quit sending cops to scenes that are social cases, empower these social case workers with more detaining rights. They are already trained to handle these calls.
There are other less costly reforms like transparency in video and documentation, that can be done.

just this week a Vt Trooper was pulled over, off duty, for failing to maintain safe control of his vehicle and lied to the officer that pulled him over and was sent on his way. this special treatment is something police expect !
The officer that pulled over the trooper followed up on the troopers assertion that his use of a hand held electronic device was because he was being called into work ( the lie ). And a formal investigation into lying to an officer (possible obstruction of justice?), and careless operation of a vehicle is underway.
How can this Trooper be trusted again? he was willing to lie to avoid a traffic citation. Is he willing to lie to get a conviction? Is he willing to lie to cover up other criminal activities the he or others have committed ?

Police have seriously abused their power Nationwide. I was arrested for possession of small personal amounts of marijuana over 20 times in the past 50 years. Resulting in over $20,000 in fines. I'm Jewish I'm white. How can I ever trust the police after the past 50 years. Lost my license for 14 years because there was marijuana in my urine, After a routine traffic stop, I was not high at the time. I see all law enforcement as financial preditors and nothing else. Yes they have been there for me at times, but they have caused me far more harm than good. You guys should have treated us better, instead of abusing your power this is the outcome. I would consider supporting the police, if they publicly came out in an act of contrition and repentance to all marijuana users in the United States of America you abused your power now you're paying the price. Shame on all law enforcement.

Ultimate power ALWAYS corrupts, ultimately. It can never, ever, ever be avoided.
It's a cycle. Systems get created, and work well for awhile, but eventually grow and grow to impossibly ridiculous strengths. Then, the corruption becomes exposed. People fight back. $#17 burns down.
Other, more banal, corporate examples: Napster. Internet browsers. Facebook. UA-cam (lol). And yes, even Amazon and Microsoft.
Businesses of every kind need to have CAPS. Glass ceilings on profits, personnel, resources, etc.
Even then, people simply start new 'child' businesses (like FB guy did with 'Meta', lol). 🙄
Life favors the rich until the poor revolt. Plain and simple. Even then, the poor have to *WIN*, and that's not easy.
