Teal you sure are correct about boatyards that allow owners to work on their boats. I think there is only one left here in Texas in the Houston- Kemah area. I live in Dallas and absolutely no one will allow you to do a bottom job around here at any lakeside marina.
My favorite bachelor meals were 1. Corn bread, beans and franks with cherry cobbler. Fried Chicken with mash potatoes and corn, brownie. Meatloaf with mash tators and brownie. Chicken and Pasta with Texas Toast. All made by Banquet. I really miss beans and wiennies!!!
One thing i find so utterly proving a point is that even if it's not required to have OCD to maintain a boat, it sure helps :D Nice work as always. Thanks for the inspiration.
I never knew till now that there was such a thing. I bump my head because I wear a baseball cap sailing and every time I go below I risk hitting my forehead stepping down. Hard. Turning the cap around is a good idea but I usually put the bill back in front for the shade until I get another rude reminder. Great idea. I'm off to Walmart. Now, if I could only remember where I put the car keys.
Friday Morning..Hot Green Tea, Oatmeal and SV Basic..Thanks Capt Teal, Lihn, Emma...yes and Compass for getting me ready for the day. Looking like a Show Boat. Merrie Ellen is Beautiful Craft and I bet she will be around another 100 years. Thanks for sharing her story !
Teal, I imagine that you have heard this a thousand times, but... I'm new to Onboard Lifestyle and over the last month I am up to date on all of your videos, including Linh's cooking and Emma's kids perspective. You have a wonderful family and your no-compromise dedication to thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship is very inspiring. I look forward to new video's every Friday. Stay safe!
Thanks Michael and welcome to the crew! We are so happy to hear you are watching our videos and we have so much more to share once we get back in the water. (Any day now!) Can't wait to start sailing and exploring! Cheers!
Been away for a couple of weeks, but today I saw a Facebook post about upcoming cooking videos. That was a good reason to make time and catchup on Basik.
Love the rub-rail Teal. Buying the 'factory' stuff is incredibly expensive for what you get. You've got a simple, easy to make, very tough material and also as you pointed out simple to replace if damaged. I'd hope you never bump anything hard enough to damage it bad enough to warrant replacement, its a great plastic but technically a softer material in terms of how plastics are graded. I doubt you'll need to fix anything anytime soon, great job!
Hey Kraken! Thanks for that. We hope we never bump into anything to do damage, but if that were to happen, we are bringing along some extra pieces. Just in case. 😜👍👍
Thinking back to the day you put her on the hard and began scraping and sanding underneath. You've all come such a long way! Endurance and drive! This next chapter is about to begin!!! Whoo Hooo!!!!!!
Love how that rub rail turned out, and no, it's not to big at all, in fact on that size boat you probably could have used a 2" and still would look like a racing line ;) Paints looking sharp too.
@@OnboardLifestyle , plus doing it like you did, if 1 piece gets damaged..or even worn, you can replace just sections easily, as you said. Told a friend he needs to replace his in a similar way.
Wonder when the paper mill was going to make an appearance, a lot of jobs and talk about a process. But could live without the unpleasant perfume of wet paper. Still the love the peninsula and the view and sailing the straits
Good job Emma you did a very good impression of a drill press and it's good to see you helping out in a big way. It's always such a treat to watch your videos. It is the highlight of my Friday mornings. Thank you guys.
Great Job Teal holding down the fort while the girls are away. You even manage to not hurt your self while they were away! ha ha ha Kidding aside you did an awesome job. To bad you had to eat frozen dinners. I know how that is when my wife goes out of town.
The beauty of Friday: it must be SV Basik! I must comment positively on your filming style. We all know that Teal and Crew love symmetry. This week we saw evidence with the precisely aligned rub rails at a right angle to the saw horses and the perfectly precise installation. Did I mention Emma’s perfect drilling of the ideal hole size for the ideal holding screws? This weekly attention to detail is the hallmark of true Craftsmen. Your family effort tickled my “symmetry button” too😁👍💥 .
The boat is really coming along nicely. Was checking Google Maps to see whether you show up on 8th St. Alas, no. I did find your slip on Lake Union a while back. That was fun.
My aunt and cousin just live up the hill south of the boatyard. I always visit the yard when I’m in town, looking at all the boats and dreaming. I’m coming out for a wedding August 16th. Don’t know if you will still be there. If so, would like to visit the project firsthand. Hope you’ve had breakfast at the Blue Moose! Best for you all!
Well I can't wait to see the graphics. really great job on that paint on the interior Hull when you can see the reflection when you look down the hull you know you did good. I like the fact that you introduced us to some of the historic boats
I have thoroughly enjoyed every video. I have a special catamaran on my drafting board and you guys are an inspiration to hit the water someday. Thank you so much from a landlocked Montanan.
When you first drilled the holes before counter sinking didn’t you drill for size 10 screws? If not, why. Turning the drill around was classic Teal ingenuity. Will have to remember that trick! Waiting for Emma to age up and get her 100 ton CG license. That’s why once you start sailing, she should keep her own log of days sailing at sea, especially open ocean, to have proof of days at sea. And the comments in the log will be priceless to read years later to her children-grandad. Yes it’s going to happen.
Here's something I learned many years ago- when installing metal roofing, there are basically two diameters of screws you can use. You should start with the smaller ones. If the roof leaks and a screw gets loose, you can pull them out and put the larger ones in. An idea for the rub rail in the future?
You are really doing a fine job on your home. It was great to get some quality mom and daughter time for Linh and Emma, even if it meant Teal had to work alone for a few days. Looking like maybe 10.days until back in the water. Will you go back to Lake Union to load out and provision for the trip south? You should be truly proud of what you have accomplished, all of you.
G'day Teal. I used to live in an boat yard whenbi had my first boat. the yard was an open dirt and dust as well. What we did before painting, we watered the dust down and that did two things. one stopped the dust and two slowed the traffic down. Gerard.
If you look at 1:57 That would be a great place to have your logo. In the middle, between the bow. Going forward. Take your boat and sail in Scandinavia /Norway next summer. Greeting from a Norwegian subscriber 🇧🇻
She's looking real good I am so envious, you must have a chest size 50" every time you look at your efforts in what you and the Family have achieved. Bless you all good luck from the UK.
That starboard rub rail looks awesome. That's a great idea , and like you said any problem you can replace that section. The boat is looking so good can't wait to see it all painted. Looking forward to see what bottom paint you put on.
I forgot about this channel today I was busy all day and I’m beat. I just thought seeing compass in the car. We use to have a Yorkshire terrier years ago. When she got older she never wanted to leave her. So we got a doggy bed that was big enough for her to see out the window. So if you do not sell the car you should get those doggy beds.
The race is on to get her back in the water! She is looking good though. Wonder if you will have her splashed by the time I get back up there in a couple of weeks!
I enjoy watching your vids. I have built, fixed and sailed boats for more than 50 years. I can appreciate your attention to the details and I use West Epoxy often. I am liking some of your painting and thickened epoxy techniques. Keep up the good work and keep the vids coming. Where are you taking your craft, once completed?
I see the exposed sail drives at right angles to the boat. Have you ever considered gluing and bonding sacrificial keels in front of and under them so that when you run over lines and other obstacles you can avoid the entanglement and potential damage that always seems to occur when you can't afford to have it happen?
We have our daggerboards in front of our saildrives. If there is some damage to them, they will be much easier to pull up and fix. Thanks for the concern! 👍
Compass contacted me and said to hold off on the lawsuit. Seems you listened to our last communication on prior video and gave him more video time. It’s hard work keeping the crows at bay. However, there is the issue of the car carrier. It is much more comfortable to sleep stretched out on the seat!
Should the countersunk screw holes not be sunk a little deeper, so that the screws are also protected? Otherwise, screws could be torn out in a harder crash...
This is the first I've heard of graphics! Can't wait to see what you guys have dreamed up! Keep up the good work, it will be a great day when that underside is painted! How's that drone coming along?
Niiiiiice job guys !!! The rub-rail really adds a ton of "length" look to the boat and compliments the boot stripe quite nicely. Stainless, though as functional, would not have had the same look or repairability. Going to keep this product in mind. BTW, what was the product used?? ✨💕🙂⛵️⚓️✨
Thanks Richard! We used Starboard Lumber. UV stabilized, easy to use, does not warp, rot or delaminate in the harshest marine condition. Sands like lumber. 👍
Whoa... Is that over a protruding flang / hull joint? Can water intrude from the top or bottom? Is the rub rail mounted through it?. I never thought about using some Starboard as a rub rail. That would be WAAAAY more const effective than any of the other options I was thinking. My cat has a bit of a curve to it. Does Starboard like that bend well? Can you heat it? Does really look great!
I was thinking, I know that's dangerous, but we have not seen a cooking video in a looong time. Any thoughts about bringing them back when back in the water? Also looking forward to some of Emma's drone videos.
Hello Basik Crew, How many more weeks do you think you have to go to Completion? I just got back some results from a recent CT Scan, and it looks like I have some Nodules in my Lungs, and Abdomen. I sure want to see this Yacht Sailing before I might expire. Get'r Done, Love Y'all.

She's the best. ❤❤
Teal awesome job on the lone wolf painting and a clever idea on the rub rail.
As it should be , When Emma grows up, No Man will ever Measure-Up to her Dad. I can hear her say " My Dad built a boat by himself ! !" ( Laugh )
No. She's be a modern woman. She'll say "My family built a boat by ourselves and sailed the world. What have you been doing?"
Really love your family's attitude...just great. And your craftsmanship..awesome.
He needs a bump hat. I work in a yard and mine is priceless

So true. But your boat will still be in perfect shape. When you trade-down for a smaller boat at age 90.
