HELLO TEAL, LIHN, EMMA, & COMPASS! I know a lot of hard work goes in to the maintenance & upkeep of this beautiful Catamaran along with the costly expenses. I feel you are further ahead doing the work yourself. You will know it's done right. You are familiar with the parts, how they work, so if a problem arises the troubleshooting is easier somewhat. The wheel cover is perfect! So very much compliments the boat! I loved episode #155 seeing Emma pop up here & there in the background. She had me so tickled, I had to go watch it again. So very much enjoy you folks. Emma, It was nice to see you made a friend while you are anchored. Hope you got to enjoy your Spring Break.
It's a little late to mention this now, but I've seen people in our marina with macrame braiding on their wheels. I have no idea how to do that, and I prefer wood and brass on Vitruvius. I've seen some fairly complicated knotwork on some wheels, but it might have been an option that wouldn't have involved so much tedious needlework. Sorry to bring this up now, but we had no idea this was even going to be a thing. Looks great, Linh. You did a superb job. Teal owes you a hand massage with essential oils to rejuvenate your aching hands. Emma did a fantastic job doing all the planning and layout. She needs a raise in salary and a promotion in rank.
LITHIUM - EXCELLENT!!! Tesla battery modules are really the best way to go, the power is phenomenal. There are a couple boats that have installed them, one that springs to mind is ‘Sailing Dauntless’, another sailing family. It might take a little more research, which Teal will totally enjoy, but the unique system and power it will give you is fantastic. Linh might even like an induction stove like Delos has, no more explosive gas onboard and hunting for places to refill it.
Glad the steering hydraulic issue was an easy fix Teal. Great job on the helm leather wrap Linh, looks amazing (Awesome math skills too Emma). Fair winds and following seas Basik.
Nice update crew! Just a suggestion, if the wheel covering is leather, apply several coats of saddle soap. The leather should shrink over time, but an application of saddle soap will give the leather some water protection qualities. I would recommend Fiebings or Redhead saddle soap. FWAFS (Fair winds and following seas)!
@@OnboardLifestyle I have never tried with suede. I do know that the velvety properties of suede will change when the soap is applied. Take a piece of scrap to do a test application of soap. Regards!
So glad you took some time off. Teal great to have a relatively simple fix! Linh beautiful work and congrats for sticking with that whole big circumference, it's no fun to put your hands on a cold wheel. Emma, always good to see you calculating with protractors, etc at hand, all must be right with the world:)
Wow! That wheel came out awesome! Cpt Teal, glad you got the steering system figured out! Lets hope your fix works the steering system out so you don’t have to worry about it. Fair winds!
You all were sorely missed by your friends who follow you. Good to fix the steering problem. Cannot wait to see the hardtop finished with enclosure. Great job Emma with tour math. You are way ahead of many, who are in schools. Stay focused on all your projects, you are a winner. See you next week hopefully.🙏🐻
Oh Lithium will change things for you guys. I put 600amp hours in myself last year. I bought CALB cells direct from China and built 2 x 300 amp hour batteries. I am super happy but feel I should have gone for 800 or 900 amp hours. I used the opportunity to throw out gas inside the boat and went induction cooktop, microwave and electric oven. We love it as my Maja loves baking and we have fresh bread every day etc. much easier than gas for sure. Teal also look into the highest amp / square cm for solar. I have only 3 x sun power panels giving me just over 1000w of solar
This was a very enjoyable episode and adorable Emma showed us some of her useable math skills. I didn't know those steering pumps had an adjustable screw and what or how they adjust the steering action. The next episode may tell us....thank you all three!!!
My world started to crumble around me when Teal had to send something away because he didn't know what was inside! Again, thank you for sharing your journey with us. Your channel is the one I look forward to the most. Can't wait to see you cruising turquiose seas further south. :)
I was waiting for Emma to appear in the background. Great episode. The wheel looks very nice. It matches with the black/white Basik color scheme. Thank you again
You guys just always seem to have so much fun, we don't always end up smiling at each other after a solid day of working together, Janet wont even speak to me after a day laminating with me, you have discovered the secret to happiness. Don't laminate together. Cheers Janet and Ross
Lol, you guys crack us up! Can't wait to cross the Pacific and hook up with you two. Janet and I can decompress over a bottle of wine and you boys can talk shop. XO, L
Teal: I wrote up a post on replacing seals on a Capilano system if you want to see what's inside. The adjustment knob changes the angle of a 'swash plate' and with it, the stroke of the pistons in the pump. I could see if some debris is in the pump that adjusting the angle could allow it to pass, but there shouldn't be debris in there that big. I'd still be concerned about it getting stuck again. There are some valves in the output side on your pump that my older pump does not have (they are in an external 'uniflow' valve on older systems) and I'd suspect them as a culprit as well, if it is only happening hard over, then that would seem to say that the release valve for the reverse direction is sticking closed.
Next time you need the dress the wheel, use the soft side of a velcro band. They come in large rolls with an adhesive side and it's possible to buy only the soft side. I use it when building dog sleds. I went through ice water and snow. Works very well.
I put a leather wrap on our sailboat steering wheel many years ago too. I still remember how painful my hands got, but how happy I was when it was done!
Consider calling DACOTA BATTERY'S they are newer out on the market and open to sponsored projects. Sailing Zingaro just got his boat done with their products. Don't worry about missing a vid, we will live. You need to take time for yourselves and Emma once in a while. We all have to maintain our spark, and sanity. MUCH LOVE CHEERS AND FAIR WINDS Steve h.
Hey kids.., yup..., I'm sold! I want a catamaran! A beautiful vessel! Thanks for showing me around the hardships & rewards.; although you make it look easy. Again, fair winds to ya....
Great news...I really enjoy watching your projects - and Mexico will still be there when you are ready....Are you gong to mark the kings spoke with some rope wraps so you know by feel when your rudders are amidships?
Better look good that was a laborious labor of love. I did a car steering wheel once and never again. ... One more thing that makes the boat look even more fantastical.. Perfecto Linh
Linh you are an amazing person to have tackled that wheel project, but look at how nice it turned out! Emma did her “math magic” to allow for the detailed measurements and it would seem that Teal was literally an “arm chair” manager. That steering surprise will, hopefully, allow for easy adjustments while underway. Finally, so happy to hear of Emmas target date for completion of her dental project.
I can't imagine what you feel on your end of the camera, never thought of it being stressful, just anxiously waited on this side of the camera for a new video, not just yours, a few others. It's okay to take a break. You deserve "me" time. Everyone does. You get to gather yourself, think, regroup, make a different approach, we don't see that part of you. We'll be here when your ready to share with us again. Have a good week everyone!
Always impressed by how competent your three are and admire your ambition, your sense of beauty and, of course, your attention to detail. Much happiness to you all. Cheers, Will
I have two degrees in design and one of them in Fashion design. I am a wizard at geometry, but I have never taken a single class to learn it. Too funny, I had no idea what she was talking about, and I have never approached a design project so formally! Those are some sick math skills, Emma! I'm a little jealous! My ex sent my kids to me when they got into geometry for help. All I could do was tell them the answer and couldn't show them how to get the answer. Not a lot of help! Cool job on the wheel cover!
Great work from all of you! Team work at it's best. Also hurray for Emma on the toofuses...lol! At least you can get more stuff done while you wait for her. Also I know the feeling Linh! I have done many wheels in my years living aboard... this is why they charge so much for professional wrapping. I would much rather do it myself though. Anyways.... bravo to all of you!

The leather looks nice. I use hockey stick tape on mine as it comes in some fun colors. Obviously doesn't hold up as well but it is pretty cheap stuff so you can change it pretty frequently if needed.
I love the "new" wheel! It was the only thing on the whole boat that didn't look 💯 (only 99%😉) I've been waiting for this one 🤩... It looked a little bit pale before. Thank you for this amazing chanel!

Our wheel was wrapped with some decorative cord that works very well. Those wheels are cold and slick without a covering. The black leather looks very nice!
linh talent and beauty Teal you could do with buying a set of Crowfoot spanners for those tight spots they have a good selection on Amazon at a good price regards from Liverpool England
Great channel and great work you guys are doing. I assume that turning the adjustment knob will increase the output pressure of the pump and hence create more power to overcome the friction in the system and move the rudders. While the requirement for extra pressure could be due to bad weather, strong currents, etc but I do recommend that you also look for other mechanical possibilities that can cause this situation such as loose/damaged bushes, linkages, etc. The locking of steering as you refer to possibly means that the Max. hydraulic pressure that the pump is set to work is reached without any movement of the oil hence internal pressure relief valve of the pump opens to prevent internal damage. turning the knob will simply increase the pressure setting of the relief valve which in turn means more hydraulic pressure to meet the extra power needed to move the rudders.
A well deserved week off. Hope you enjoyed it to the fullest. A suggestion for an episode with little or no filming, a “Then and Now” retrospective going back to the beginning, highlighting the major parts of the refitting of SV BASIK. Emma is a treasure!

Yes, we plan to. The first project is the helm station since we are most exposed there. Linh will work her way around the rest of the hardtop so we can use our cockpit year-round regardless of weather.

how did you polish the aluminum poles so nicely? what products did you use?
Hello 👋
Great job guys
Good morning from southwest Florida

can't wait for the battery change
What’s the technique around the adjustment knob? Twist until it works again?
You really need a shirt "I feel really good about it". Safe travels.
