People need to stop pussyfooting around the replacement for Chester. Nobody here is replacing him, they are just moving on. Chester himself replaced the singer of STP. ACDC did it. Alice in Chains did it. LP is as much Mikes band as it is Chesters. People should be happy we are getting new music.
It’s a bit complicated. For a lot of people, Linkin Park without Chester isn’t complete, and while I can understand that the band wants to move on, I feel like she should’ve been brought in as a guest vocalist.
But yes, a part of that process does involve things like this, so I can understand.

Completely agree. When Chester died, I got over it in about a few days. It took the band seven years and during that time Mike would do live streams and the fans would constantly keep asking him personal questions about Chester. When they released the Lost single, it seemed like a cash grab and huge fan service. It all just felt extremely twisted and creepy. Now, even with a new vocalist, an album announcement and tour, every comment is Chester this Chester that. I'm so sick of it.
Change is difficult. Chester meant so much to so many people. His voice got me through some of the darkest parts of my life. When he passed it hit me hard. But it’s been almost a decade and they spent the time necessary to grieve and process everything. I can’t imagine the pressure she felt stepping up to that role. I’m glad they are back. This is a good step forward for them. Mike even said during the live “in the role of Mr. Chester Bennington, all of you” he knows that the fans and the band are keeping his memory alive. Chester will never be forgotten, but I’m glad to see them moving forward.
I agree man as a fan who has literally been listening since the Hybrid Theory record dropped it's going to be difficult extremely difficult and I wish them all the best and I hope they go out there and kill it but it's just not going to be the same but I am glad they are moving on and doing what they love to do with the people they would love to do it with

I was hoping we would also have a tribute show for Chester like we got for Chris Cornell. But it's also amazing that Linkin Park are coninuting as a band I look forward to hearing more music from them.

@@Grant3399 me too. I’m sad that Rob is out too. 😞 But let us be thankful for all of them that this wasn’t a falling out type of situation. It was purely his decision and he has already been out of the picture for the past four years now. Which is why he wasn’t present for the Hybrid Theory rerelease, Meteora rerelease, or Papercuts collection. We will miss Rob, the guys at LP still care about him and want him to be happy, but let’s just be glad that he’s doing okay.

Story Time: I met Mike and Chester at Ozzfest in Hartford Connecticut. Our Band "Obsolete" went together to watch and we ran into them in the venue at the front by the beer. They were handing out a white cassettes with i think 2 songs on it. I grabbed a cassette from them as we continued to have a conversation with them for about a half hour. They were cool as hell and had a great conversation with them that I have still yet to forget. Talking about our bands and their start to rise and popularity. Months later they were known by many.

Liar. I'm just kidding. That actually sounds awesome. Chester is 1 of those celebs I wish I met. Be friends with. Etc. Same goes for Chris Cornell. Kurt Cobain was/different. He was too dark and off Kilter. My friendship for example with Cobain would probably only last a month. I do hope to see all 3 one day

Me too, Ive been a fan since the Y2k days. Whatever makes the band comfortable is fine with me. Its not easy to find the right member to work with. We get to listen to her but THEY spend time with her in the studio. The chemistry must be present.

they said they will be "heavily" touring in 2025, so hopefully yes, this current 6 show world tour is before the album drops so its highly likely! :)

Thank you for your opening words. Numb saved my life and Breaking The Habit helped me in my recovery. I cried for DAYS when Chester died! Especially knowing that his vocals sang the song that helped me so much and he didn't have anyone helping him.... RIP Chester. Welcome Emily

Mike can use the name, but Linkin Park died on July 20th 2017. It`s seems Rob is the only one who understood that.
Linkin Park is amazing! I’ve LOVED them since 2000. Rest in peace Chester. You were one of a kind and loved by millions. Thank you for getting me through some really hard times

@somersfamily yeah actually Jay Gordon does have alot to do with linkin park. First they were peers in the early 2000s. Jay did a remix with linkin park. They toured together. Pretty safe to say they are friends.

I’m relieved and glad cause she has those voice qualities to pull off the songs. Harsh to pretty. Yelling choruses are on point. I still feel pain and the fact that it sounds different. I miss Chester and his voice and nuances.

i couldn't agree with you more, LP could easily create new music using A.i. for Chester's voice and a hologram for live performances. we live in an era where that technology is easily available and I think fans would be happier to see that then some girl singing Chester's parts. I don't wanna throw any hate towards this woman but why not just call the band something else? the original drummer is gone and chester has passed away so why not just create something new? They can easily use technology to do Linkin Park stuff using a hologram and a.i. but to come out saying your doing a new album of new music why not just call yourself something other than Linkin Park?

I acknowledge a lot of ppl's thoughts and opinions on the situation, Whether I agree or disagree on the matter it all comes down to we want great music. I truly think I have a great idea that brings a lot of ppl together. I think Linkin Park should rotate vocalist's every so often. Like maybe this month we have Emily Armstrong whilst next month or so we have Amy Lee.

I'll admit I was one of those "it's not Linkin Park with out Chester" people and a part of me still feels that way. But after hear her today I think she going to be great. Linkin Park was one of the bands on my bucket list to see live and when Chester died i thought it was never going to happen. I would have loved to see them with Chester but today I feel like theirs hope for me to finally hear those song I grew up listening to live. I just hope they add more tour dates in the future.

i can understand not liking the tracks......honestly LP has always been hit or miss with a lot of their singles they release.....linkin park became so many things over the years there is going to be people who feel the same as you. there is going to be some people that really like for the aound or because they connect to the lyrics. i think lyrically it was a pretty good song but the execution due to the situation didnt live up to what it was lyrically

Honestly I liked it. But I also tried going into it by not comparing it to the old linkin park with chester and looking at it as a new band that just happens to have members from linkin park, and I enjoyed it. But I knew there would be backlash because some people aren't going to be as open minded and if chester isn't singing they won't like it. And I get that to an extent. He was very talented and is a one of a kind person and voice. He was / still is one of my favorite artists so I kind of get why some people won't like it, but it's a shame if they make good music to miss out on it because they can't let chester go. And then there's those who this music with her just isn't their cup of tea and that's okay too

There were tons of better options, but they dont want to pay someone who should have got it. It is exactly a cashgrab. It is clear to see. She also has a lot of bad press about other things, and the way Chester went out.. It's not cool at all.
How many times can a band change its members? They need to stop piggy backing on old success with Chesters sung songs. They need to call it a new name. This is simply not Linkin Park anymore. Linkin Park could have went the AC/DC route. Hiring Brian Johnson to replace Bon Scott. But instead they went the 3 Days Grace route (Matt Walst to replace Adam Gontier). The livestream sounded like one of those random covers you find scrolling the tube at 2 am. Sure, it sounds kinda cool but something doesn't sound right.
THAT was a massive downgrade, comparing Walst to Adam Gontier is like comparing a Corolla to a corvette

As a Stone Temple Pilots fan, I know how hard it is to have a new singer in place of a legend. Embrace it, and give it a chance.
She’s a Scientologist cult member and defender of Danny Masterson, I’m not down with this at all.
I think it helps separate the past era and present era of Linkin Park that they have had to play the songs in a higher key to fit in with Emily's vocal range. It was a fresh take on some classic songs, all the while keeping it in the same realm we know and love Linkin Park for. The new song is also unmistakingly very LP sounding with or without Emily's vocals.
Honestly, i’m happy. Even tho i’m a huge Chester fan, i’m happy with their new singer. That show was awesome. It doesn’t even feel like she’s replacin’ Chester. She’s brought in her own vibe. That’s exactly the voice i was hopin’ for when i heard the ,,female singer” part in the interview with Jay Gordon

Im usually a positive person who always gives bands a chance who decide to reignite after a passing or a member whos left. But chester cannot be replaced. He was the voice and main instrument. I certainly wont be listening to any new material. I am so glad i got to see the real linkin park at download festival. Incredible and an experience i will treasure for life. RIP chester, your irreplaceable!
Yes… Chester cannot be replaced. But Mike is the mastermind behind LP. He’s the main songwriter and producer, on top of being the founder of the band. He should def have the final say if the band should continue. You are right to have your opinion tho and not listen to new stuff.

Well, Mike has always been the genius behing LP's success. Even though hearing anything but Chester 's screams and Rob's drums it's hard, life continues and so they have to! If Mike believes that these two members is what the band needs, then let's enjoy them!

I'm sorry but she sounded horrible live. Her voice was breaking throughout the concert and she was absolutely forcing her vocals, even tho they even tuned the instruments higher to fit her vocals.
Yeah, she sounded great if we were having chicken wings at the local bar during Karaoke night-not as the lead singer for one of the biggest bands in the world.

@@meganod279 Well, not horrible, just probably nerves + adrenaline + the desire to show what she can do + perhaps she hasn’t yet found how to appropriate the songs for herself. My only complaint is that she can only fry scream, I’m sure everything will be cool in her songs, but the old ones were written for a different performance.

The thing I like about shinoda, Is he's dedicated to his art & evolving it. He isn't looking to make a tribute band, and get a look alike & sound alike, he's taking a new direction, a new era for linkin park.
Chester can't be replaced, and even if they got a look alike and sound alike, that isn't evolving their music, it's living in the past trying to rekindle old memories which also has a life expectancy that eventually dies out.
I think this was a bold but good move, now it's really on her what she can bring to the table to already established, legendary band.
i actually think there is someone who would be able to replace chester by like 80-85% of the way......the lead singer from sum 41, we have alread seen him perform a chunk of LP's music and that it sounded close enough where it would be acceptable but the one thing he would have been missing is that very soft an d calm voice tone for some of the music. sum 41 also broke up so hes a free agent so if they wanted to replace chester as close as they could it would have been him.
No one can replace Chester, but it’s better that they return than not at all. Won’t completely fill the void but I’m excited to see them again.
I grew up on Linkin Park and have been heartbroken over the loss of Chester since the day he left. But I will say I was very happy and proud when I watched this show tonight. I think she did a fantastic job especially given the amount of pressure she must be under. The band as a whole seems to be still trying to find their way back into it but everyone did a wonderful job and it was so fulfilling to see them all smiling and performing again like this. Even I was smiling most of the time and even a little emotional at times. I’m a very happy LP fan and let’s give Emily a chance!

It's not about supporting or not supporting. It's about what makes sense. She simply doesn't fit the vibes or vocals. It was a huge flop of a concert.
kurt cobain was the main songwriter, Shinoda is LPs main songwriter and he's alive and well, not even close.
This won’t be like Nirvana without Kurt, but Alice in Chain’s situation when they reunited with Will DuVall.
One of the biggest void that Chester's death has for me is that I would never see them perform live. As a guy who loves old music (Floyd, Zeppelin, Doors) I never rushed to any LP shows thinking I had time because they are so young and surely one day they will come anywhere near where I live and I will go. When Chester died I was like "Does that mean I will never be able to see them live?". Now I will gladly attend and support anything that LP does. The remaining members of the band are great musicians and if Emily is good for them and they feel happy and excited for the project, so am I!
That vocalist from the 'Hybrid Theory' cover band does justice to Chester's voice. No hate guys, this is my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, Emily is a great singer but it's just not the same without Chester. I watched some of it but just couldn't get into it.

Linkin Park wouldn't exist at all without Mike, Brad, and Rob. And that's excluding Mark Wakefield, who was the singer from 96-98. Chester didn't join until 99.

Not necessarily time will prove this. LP was great over a long period of time one record won't prove anything longevity with great music will. I will give it a try but I'm not impressed at this time.

I'm looking forward to new Linkin Park material with Emily's vocals. I think that would be more easy for me to accept than covering the original content that Chester made legendary.

Quite surprised here and not in a good way. There are lots of people who could do justice to LP and Chester without having to play the songs a few keys higher, but maybe I'm missing something.
Cheers to Linkin Park for embarking on this new journey with Emily Armstrong! If Mike and the band trust her, I am going to be the air under their wings and support them with my whole heart!

I don't care what anyone says. Emily is awesome and I hope to see and hear her for many years with Linkin Park.
I mean, I'm not clinging to the past, but her performance left much to be desired, at times her voice simply went out. I've heard a local cover band do better, not ironic. But I won't deny if they ever come to my city I will be there.

Nerves are a hell of a thing. You try debuting as the new singer for one of the most popular bands on the planet, knowing that everyone is watching, tons of people are going to be trying to compare you to the literal GOAT that came before you, and that alot of angry incels are gonna hate you just for being a woman and singing in the band they listen to when they get rejected by another woman that doesn't want a child for a boyfriend. Nerves absolutely will kick in and make things harder.
There were definitely some rough parts that need to be worked on, but she won me over by the end.

The new single studio version is fire! I think Emily has the vocal chops and swagger to make it her own. And I really liked how she sang Chester's parts during the livestream.... she put her own spin on it. Looking forward to see what's next for them.

Her band Dead Sara is amazing actually, I hope she gains some recognition from this collab, the songs she wrote for her band are awesome.
I will definitely check out the new album but I can go without hearing her sing the old stuff ever again.

Your think? Have you looked into her? She has quite a few controversies to her name. The rapist guy she managed to explain why, her affiliation with the church of Scientology. She's a cult member basically. If they want to continue that's upto them.. but I cannot support them anymore, I don't think she's the right fit for Linkin Park, if they wanted to continue with her they should start a new band with different name.

I think she is a great add, she has this rockstar aura and didn't seem to shy to be there playing for the first time with LP. Sings really good, has a great tone and that darkness shows up when she screams.

@@flexprofits You don't understand why people would want a good singer to sing for a band? This new singer explicitly claims to be trying hard to stay true to the originals. That being said there are far better options to choose from. People with a lot more presence/body in their voice and good technique that don't have to rely on crowdwork to get through half the setlist without constantly voice cracking. In what scenario would it be preferable to get a less capable singer?

I think Chester is looking down from above and is happy that Linkin Park continues to make so many people happy, just like he did. Nobody will, can or should replace Chester and that is precisely why I think the album title is very fitting, because it is a new beginning. And I am for everything that comes next.

Chester wouldn't want his fans to be expressing hate. In order to heal from such a loss the members Need to move on as part of life. I wish them well and willing to give Emily a chance.
Among all the possible candidates, Emily’s voice sounded like LinkinPark the most to me and I’m quite convinced now.

Exactly. This reeks of a total cash grab just to replace Chester with a female. A good example here is when Yes tried to replace Jon Anderson with Trevor Horn. This wont work out in the end, and it doesn't even matter. See what I did there 😂
