when I first listened to the song and read the lyrics the song instantly reminded me of “don’t mess with my man” so when everybody was tripping over the lyrics I genuinely could not find the issue

No cause I expected them to be talking about them being on another level. The group is literally called girls on top and not to mention the lineup is iconic. I thought we was getting like a song about women empowerment. I ain’t complaining just definitely thought it would be different. It’s not as bad as some people are making it out to be especially since this isn’t new to western music.

i loved this song! obviously it’s great vocally and the performance is great visually, but i also really love the instrumental, that’s probably the reason why i love SM so much, they aren’t afraid to experiment with the sound and i loved these creepy dark sounding strings, the chants are also incredible and powerful.i don’t really have a problem with the lyrics except for the first pre chorus😭they could’ve just sang how great they are and that they’re on another level but they fixed it with the second pre-chorus. Overall this performance is definitely 10/10 and song is 9.5/10. it’s epic, iconic, powerful and legendary

when i read the lyrics for the 1st pre-chorus i was like huhhhh?? the song wasn't too bad lyric wise like people are making it out to be, i just wish they flipped it so the focus was on THEM being at too high of a level rather than the man being on another level. if the song had centered around that, while keeping in line w/the same concept of "step back he's mine" it would've been better.

I think a lot of people who are critical of “my man is on another level” subconsciously assume that Got the Beat women are singing about a relationship wherein the man is elevated. Because of the superior level of talent and success Got the Beat women possess which I highly respect, I naturally assumed that the man they sing about is a good man equal to (not above) and worthy of each one of them and therefore the woman who disrespectfully continues to cross relationship borders is definitely of a lower “level” than the couple in the song. This is why I interpreted this song to convey the notion “step back he’s mine and you’ll never get him because I’M on a level you can’t reach”.

I was also freaking out. 4 generations of kpop its crazy. They all look like a dynasty of fuck-u-up performers. I love the energy and power and i dont care if others think the lyrics of hte song are reductive, I will always stan powerful female form in kpop whether or not the story is about protecting whats yours from others (that includes a man)

The dissonant offkey chords/strings ARE EVERYTHING! Also I can’t tell people how to feel bc everyone has a right to be offended about something but in my opinion the lyrics aren’t as bad as people are making it seem. I really like the horror like instrumentals. There’s like a haunting choir in the background which is very interesting but cool. When seulgi and taeyon duo at the first verse, the instrumentals there seemed so off tune but it worked? I think they did it on purpose haha

okay but can i just comment on how quickly you picked up the melody and lyrics of the chorus bec by the second chorus u already knew when they're gonna say "he's sick and tired everyday" and i think it's so cool to see how quickly you can grasp the song...took me a good few listens to actually get the hang of the song..
As a fan girl of all these powerful women in this group, I love everything except the lyrics of the song. At first I thought it was a female empowering song until I heard step back silly girl I started having doubts until I checked out the lyrics myself. But nonetheless the girls killed it and hope they have more projects coming out soon with different song concepts ✨😎💯
Idu why everyone is exaggerating situation. It might be disappointing bcs people expected different kind of self empowerment anthem but still these lyrics also suggest women empowerment where a girl has strong personality who can protect her love, relationship on her own. I mean it's always not to be guy to protect his partner or love. A girl can also do this when some other person is meddling and not listening to her partner. She can also protect her man. So people saying it's misogynist or awful are just hypocrites with double standards.
If this was a group of all male Idols called "Boys on Top" who told another guy to back off his woman, nobody would be calling it "internalized misandry."

For me personally I LOVE THE SONG!!! The vocals, rap and stage presence is everything. The lyrics caught me off guard when I first read them, but to me it’s just a song to enjoy listening too.

I really find it interesting that a lot people were looking for a woman empowerment song specifically based off of the group name. I more so was thinking it pertained to how talented SM female artists are in the industry. Like taking all of the "top" women and putting them into this rotating group. I love the song and find nothing wrong with the lyrics because sometimes you gotta let a girl know lol I can't wait to see who will be in the next line up.

I think the raps are bad imo, they don’t fit the song imo. The instrumental is very confusing to me but it’s not bad. I can listen much easier than Sticker etc. Overall I liked it, it was very chaotic lol love that.
