"that girl" @3:18 is Wendy. She's the reason why Seulgi is the lead vocalist in Red Velvet and not the main. She's also one of if not the best 3rd gen vocalists. This is nothing compared to what she can do.

Their discography is insanely diverse and an absolute gold mine. Wendy & Seulgi's vocals are among the very best of the 3rd gen. But the vocal harmonies of the entire group (especially on their more 'velvet' songs) are no joke!

She is regarded as Red Velvet's Ace and one of the best Aces in Kpop.
Wendy: Main Vocalist. She is the girl with the strong and controlled voice that you liked. She is regarded as the best female main vocalist of the 3rd Gen.
I should also say that Wendy's live vocals are effortless.
There's a great video from one of Red Velvet's concert a few years ago. As Wendy is hitting a 10 (ish) second long high note, she is doing it whilst casually walking across the stage!
Wendy is also regarded as an ace of Red Velvet. She's an amazing singer, obviously, but she can rap, dance, has great stage oresence. She's got it all along with Seulgi.

I Like how you touched on the lyrics on ‘Step Back’ and actually that was a whole discourse when it first released because their name is “Girls On Top” (GOT) so when people read the lyrics they were very confused and upset that it was focused on a man rather than uplifting women/ confidence. Loved the video queen !!
I want to add that the name Girls On Top came from BoA's infamous song with the same title, which is very much about empowering women so it's a bit of a shame that the first single didn't quite stand up to that legacy.

BOA is the most senior indeed. We're talking about first generation legend right there. In fact, this group has reps from all generations:
Boa - 1st gen
Taeyeon/Hyoyeon (SNSD) - 2nd gen
Seulgi/Wendy (Red Velvet) - 3rd gen
Karina/Winter (Aespa) - 4th gen
And I love the fact their ages vary from 36 to 22 and yet you can't guess from looking at them.

This line-up is absolutely special as there are members from ALL generations of Kpop. GOT the beat has:
1st gen: BoA
2nd gen: Hyoyeon and Taeyeon of Girls Generation/SNSD
3rd gen: Seulgi and Wendy of Red Velvet
4th gen: Winter and Karina of Aespa
But tbh I'm still really disappointed by the step back lyrics. These girls are so amazing, powerful and strong, they don't deserve such misogynistic lyrics...

the girl with the unique deeper voice is Red Velvet's Seulgi, who is amazing amazing. She and RV's Irene have some duo work together Monster and Naughty that are out of this world next level blow your mind good. Seulgi also has a solo MV 28 Reasons and mini album, so that's a really easy place to start that's not overwhelming and self contained
I love winter's vocal tone it's very prevalent in Priority (SMCU album; w/ taeyeon and changmin) and in Once Again (OST with Ningning) she has such a lovely vocal tone which not a lot of people realised when she's singing all these high notes in aespa's title tracks
If you want to hear BoA sing a bit more and something recent take a look at "Time After Time" from the SMCU Winter album with Wendy and Ningning! I believe you watched other SM Town collabs from the same concert. Vocals.

The high note (F5) is shared by four of the seven members (the two main vocalists, Taeyeon and Wendy, which one would expect, but also Winter and Seulgi, who are the _main dancers_ of their respective groups!) and the remaining 3 are right up there with them with C5's and Eb5's...including Hyoyeon, dancer extraordinaire and rapper, but only a fair vocalist by SM standards! Which is pretty d--n good by any other standard.

I think "stamp on it" is basically putting your mark on kpop. like they say "there's history behind this player. someone can take the rule and change it but it all begins from me" like many new groups are changing the industry, speaking out and making such different music that kpop's sound has changed in 4th gen but we will ALWAYS mention the legends which BOA, SNSD, Red velvet and aespa are.
BOA basically introduced kpop to the world markets and inspired generations of dancers n idols
SNSD became the blueprint for girlgroups (it's kinda a necessity to learn 'into the new world" as a trainee n master it to debut for ggs)
Red velvet will always be known for their distinct style and to break records. they'll be remembered as the vocal monsters.
aespa may be relatively new but whenever someone mentions experimental music, we all sy SM and NCT and aespa. so they basically kinda started the "noise music + switchup" trend of 4th gen
so they have left their stamp forever and will be talked about

She is such a queen and has been in the industry since her debut in august 2000 and still is killing it… she’s known for her tricky choreography and husky, raspy vocals. A few fun-facts about her is that she actually saved SM Entertainment from bankruptcy when she was only 15(debuting at 13), with her promotions in Japan!! (which also makes her the first successful kpop act in Japan… ultimately bridging the two worlds and bringing in lots of money). She can speak Korean, Japanese, and English. She can Dance, Rap, Sing and is known for her alluring stage presence. BoA was originally accompanying her brother to an SM Entertainment audition when her keen eyes and natural young beauty caught the attention of staff and she ended up getting scouted instead of her brother. She has released twenty studio albums, including ten in Korean, nine in Japanese, and one in English and has released Anime openings for Hit Anime’s such as Fairy Tail and Inuyasha. Through her efforts she was able to attain the position of creative director in SM Entertainment,
even as she is still an active soloist and a member of Got The Beat. There really isn't another company that can put together a group of performers from 1st gen through 4th gen at this calibre (and really only possible because of the longevity of a legend like BoA; they have artists who have long, varied careers and I just love that more than any short-lived chart results)
Anyway, especially in an industry that tends to tell performers (ESPECIALLY women) that they are past it or "no longer relevant" I just adore how GOT the Beat just goes ahead and asks.... What do you mean? Watch this. We can all come together and be a great team.

Yep BOA is indeed the one giving you senior vibes! She’s been doing this for decades!! A FREAKING QUEEN!! Older KPOP fans of course support BOA and know what she is capable of and how amazing she is, but unfortunately newer K-pop fans don’t really give her the respect or don’t seem to care about 1st generation idols. They would just call them old and irrelevant. Which is just horrible and I don’t understand why they would say that about THE OGs who literally did pave the way for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen idols. But I’m going off tangent. BOA IS A QUEEN and I agree I wished we had more BOA shine in these songs. But again you have 7 very talented ladies in one group… you have to distribute lines equally..sometimes you have dull that shine for the sake of the group. But their B-sides are 🔥🔥🔥🔥 you’ll hear more for each members in those tracks.

It just means that these days there are so many idols, so many new groups, so many new standards and expectations, but everybody knows that these girls right here are the OG babes. More than half of the members here are kpop veterans and are still at the top of their game despite new groups coming and going. Like, even aespa started a new realm of kpop idols. You got it on the first go, When i heard Step Back for the first time, it was fire, then you look at the lyrics, I was also like what ???
But it sounds incredible, 4 gen on one stage, it has never been done like this before. so I let it slide.
Boa said in an MV review clip, she has never been in a group before, and this was the first time when she went to an Award Show, she did not have to sit on the table by herself.
then Aespa said, Table? they only get chairs, they were happy to be on a table for the first time. lol
So for you question, letting the girls have longer parts to express better? the song is already 4 minutes, and there are 7 girls, so this is the problem with groups with many members, finding enough screen time to fulfil the talent and entertainment portion. I think what you want is a solo stage. lol where they can showcase themselves.
and this pairing, is extremely difficult to give each girl more time to shine. 1 rappers and 6 vocalist , who gets to shine more than the other. age before beauty, they are all beautiful. Karina is the only rapper, so IDK who gets to have more vocal lines.
When you have time and energy, I hope you can listen to more BoA (the most senior in the group) to really hear her "let loose" vocally 🔥🔥

The girl that u say need to cut loose has been cutting loose for over 2 decades. Her name is Kwon BoA and she is a legend. So no I don’t agree with ur assessment coz those of us who knows who she is knows what she can do. She is fine with what sm is doing for her. This group isnt about BoA only its about showcasing the power of sm’s vocalist. If I want to hear boa pop loose i would listen to her albums.
